Can anyone identify the trick Cory does in this video at the 1:49 mark? He essentially hurdles the line. I don't think it is SLO because he did that prior (same direction) and I believe you have to have both feet on the ski rather than hurdling the line. Not sure if it could be WLB and SLF in quick succession, but there is no landing or pause between to distinguish the two.

Did you ground the gauge to verify it is functional and has power? When you replaced sensor did you use sealant/tape that would interfere with its ground connection?

 

If you think its the wire, use a meter to test continuity on both ends of the the sender wire.

From a spectator perspective I totally agree. Starting at -32 made more sense in the "old days" on tour stops where conditions were mediocre and max scores were into -38 or 39. However with the ability of current skiers needing to ski deep into -41 or running it to win, -32 seems unnecessary. Heck, even starting at -38 for the finals might shake things up a bit.

Honestly, another fun towable that often gets overlooked for kids is the kneeboard. I always felt better about pulling a kneeboard as opposed to a tube. Teaches one how to control oneself, the board, and the rope in the water. Pretty easy to get up on one. They can mess around pretty quickly as a beginner.

If you would have asked me if leaded fuel was still available in 92 I would have said no way. I thought it went out in the 80s. Huh.

Having a smoke while you are skiing. That is pretty cool actually. Reserved for those that can't muster big spray. Cigarette between pursed lips while throwing big spray is coolest.

I remember that one from my childhood. Never underestimate the power of a good commercial jingle. I can still recite this one and a dozen others from when I was growing up.

I saw a neat fix for removing a completely stripped phillips head screw. Basically you take a Dremel wheel and cut a slot into the screw head to "manufacture" a flat-head slot to unscrew it. Without seeing what is below that cap I wonder if something like this would work for you.

I can't imagine getting neoprene socks into rubber binders without a crap load of soap. Its tough enough getting them into the RTP

Practice time and lots of falls. I didn't start tricking until I was 40. I have a 2 ski trick pass and a 1 ski trick pass. Inverts are not in my future and I haven't really committed to toes yet. Maybe someday, but 2 ski tricks are fun.

This strategy is exactly how I was introduced to the sport. Long ago in the 80s my parents used to rent a cabin/cottage on a "resort" in Wisconsin. The resort was built in the 1920s...let's just say it was rustic. Anyway you colud rent the ski boat by the hour (17ft runabout with 70HP outboard). They supplied the driver, gas, and equipment. Was there a slalom course? No. Was the equipment good? No....I learned to ride one ski on a wood O'brien comp that barely floated.

 

However, without this my family would not have had access to the sport and I would likely not be here today. This sounds like you are providing a great opportunity to access the sport. The accommodations are stellar compared to what I had. Kudos.

The obvious comment is to point out the dumbass fisher riding on the bow of the boat and how stupid that is and how he was almost chopped up by the prop and how you shouldn't run over buoys. However, the boat cutting across the course is a familiar sight to me. Most of my course time is on my buddy's small semi-private lake. Yes there are people that understand what we are doing and don't give a shit and blow right through the course as we are getting set up. However, most people have absolutely no idea what they are looking at with regards to the buoys on the water. So many times people will be anchored right in the middle of the course (or worse, tied up to it) and we have to pull up to them and explain what we are doing. Most are pretty receptive.

 

It would be interesting to hear the back story in this case. Looks like a natural lake and not a ski pit but you'd think the jump floating right there indicates "something". It just highlights the ignorance and/or disregard people have for boating and safety, much less the slalom course.

You are replacing the carpet on a 5 year old boat?

I have the same issue. Even the brass caps get oxidized. Use wet/dry sandpaper to get the oxidation off at the beginning of each season. Has worked for me for the last 5-6 seasons

Out of curiosity what was the difference between the Sunsetter and the Response? The response of that era had the increased beam width compared to previous ski boats and the walk through open bow. Was the Sunsetter wider than that? Longer? Deeper hull?

Not sure what type of skiing you usually do. Presuming you are a slalom ski/slalom course kind of skier, keep in mind it is still a heck of a lot of fun slapping on a pair of combos and going for a joy ride. It is also a heck of a lot easier on the body. It takes me back to how and why I got into this sport at the beginning.

 

I love this video. Mismatched combo skis, cheap rope, outboard ski boat, and an apparently pregnant wife driving. I'm sure the guy is hamming it up for the video, but nevertheless, he says what I think when I'm skiing.

Aside from being a Veteran and skier, you know how else you can tell he is cool? He wears Crocs.

Do radar binding plates fit the hole pattern on D3 skis? I seem to recall at some point there were differences. Is this an issue?

 

If they do not fit, what is the fix? Is there a universal plate? Can you mount radar binders on a D3 or Wiley plate? Or if I get a piece of G10 I could make a template and make my own. If anyone has done this, what thickness for the G10?

Ours is a mud bottom lake so the water is a bit dirty. I usually clean the carpet once a year. I turn up the water heater and get buckets of hot water and suck it out with a carpet cleaner. No soap. Does pretty well. I have heard you should not use soap on carpet as any soap residue left behind will actually hold dirt more easily.

 

@Zman I have seen people mention the pressure washer before. Doesn't that back splash all over the rest of the interior?
