  1. Because a sports fan always has an opinion on a call even if they are sitting in the nose bleed section. Based solely on this video what is your call?
  2. So I'm mostly working on my gate right now. The thing I love about practicing gates at 38 and beyond is that I get immediate feedback. At 32 and 35 I can have a really poor gate or a really great gate and I can be in the exact same place at 2. At 38 that is not the case. If I do it right I will get on the right arc and I can feel it. If I do it wrong I'm screwed and I know it. I just don't see how I can get better at gates at 38 without doing gates at 38. They are so different from 32 or 35 and the consequences so much more exaggerated.
  3. I just think it is cool that we have a place to have this debate and that so many people are willing to share their thoughts about skiing. This is progressing the sport.
  4. @eleeski‌ I'm liking you more and more. BTW from what I understand Nate only does "intensity" sets. Straight down the line and then to the dock.
  5. Our site gets its water from an irrigation canal. Which means we only have water from mid-may to the first week of Oct. and the first month of the season is full of rollers until the lake weed starts growing in to knock them down. We really only get 3 months of good skiing.
  6. I think part of the reason it's difficult for me to do too many volume sets is because at our site here in UT we only have about a 4.5 month season. Gotta chase some buoys quick!
  7. Volume set? I've never done one of those. Once you get past 32 every line length is so different that I've always been of the mentality that I need as many attempts as I can at my tougher lengths because it's so much different then the length before. I rarely run a pass that I don't shorten and I rarely go backwards. Maybe I need a coach to slow me down and make me ski some volume sets. I've always wondered if it would help.
  8. I'm with @horton you've got to stand up. This position creates load without speed. You need more speed to get more space and get on a better arc before the ball. The problem is if you try to create more speed from this position you will just create more load which will not help. Stand tall initiate that turn in with your center.
  9. @webbdawg99‌ is spot on here. Speed is your friend at 36. You have to utilize it to your advantage. The worst thing you can do when you go from 34 to 36 is be less aggressive. This will kill your angle and make you feel like you are going even faster. You need space and time before the buoy to get on a good arc so the ski will carve through the turn. The only way to do this is to be aggressive from the white water to the center of the boat. You need more speed behind the boat to feel slower at the buoy.
  10. Funny how different people need different advice with my early sets this year I'm trying to get into my pulling position earlier (per rossi's advice) so that I can create more speed at the first wake. I think these concepts all work depending on what you are doing and what level you are at.
  11. Rule number one of body composition change. You can't get bigger and smaller at the same time. If you want to lose fat make that your goal (probably the best in season goal). If you want to build muscle make that your goal. Don't try to do both at the same time it doesn't work.
  12. I'm up 1.3 on my average during that time. Great year for me last year. It's going to be difficult to duplicate with a baby coming mid-July. Priorities...
  13. I'm still not skiing. Should have water in the lake in a week or so.
  14. Nate has some serious stones! I have no desire to ever take the beating to learn that.
  15. That is awesome!!! I grew up skiing behind this exact year ski brendella. I could never figure out why I could run 35 behind that thing and then I would get eaten alive at tournaments behind a nautique with PP. :)
  16. @jimbrake‌ - apparently I should read the entire thread before I start posting. But great minds think alike right???
  17. It may not be perfect but he does a ton of things right. Most importantly his center of mass is always moving ahead of the ski in the direction he wants it to go. Sometimes this makes him look a bit out the front but it is also the reason he is getting so much acceleration from the buoy to the center of the wake. Us mortals make a mistake and get afraid of going out the front so we get behind the ski and then you are done.
  18. @SkiJay I personally think the follow up picture is funnier. I've posted these here before but they are good enough to get a repost. The best part is this was at regionals... Oops! This was my position pulling to the three ball. I made it to five and then ate crap.
  19. Very nice! I buy all my handles from Brenda. Next one will have the head guard.
  20. Busted! Well that and it was too damn cold to bend my legs.
  21. May to Oct for us. We only have water if the farmers are irrigating crops.
  22. I've always been a fan of telling people to straighten their legs and stand taller on the ski. I've never noticed how straight my back leg is but this picture tells the story.
