Team GOODE won half of all slalom medals awarded at the 2013 Water Ski World Championships as the tournament concluded today in San Bernardo, Chile.
Leading the way for Team GOODE was Regina Jaquess, who took the gold in Women’s slalom to cap one of the greatest two-year runs the sport has ever seen. She has not lost a slalom tournament since March of 2012, a streak that includes victories at the Masters, Malibu Open, World Games, a slew of professional tournaments, and now the Worlds.
She scored 1 buoy at 41-feet off in the final round to earn the title over second-place finisher Whitney McClintock, who scored 4 at 39-1/2 off. Clementine Lucine (2 at 39) earned the bronze and April Coble-Eller (0.5 at 39) finished fourth, giving Team GOODE three of the top-four spots in Women’s slalom. .)In Men’s slalom rising-star Freddie Winter gave Team GOODE its third slalom medal of the championships by taking bronze. Freddie tied Will Asher and Stephen Neveu for second place with 3 at 41 off, but Will was awarded second based on preliminary round scores and Freddie topped Stephen in a run off for the final podium spot. .)The bronze medal completed a big year for Freddie, who has emerged as a top-level threat within the pro ranks. He fished second at the European Championships (after a run off for first), sixth at the Diablo Shores Pro-Am and scored a new PB of 5 buoys at 41-feet off at the GOODE Bracket Challenge in September. It was Freddie’s first time competing in the World Championships.
Defending and two-time World Champion Thomas DeGasperi finished fifth, a remarkable fourth-straight Worlds he’s has a top-five finish.
Team GOODE continued to rack up the medals in overall as Regina edged Whitney McClintock for her third career (2003 and 2005) World overall gold and Clementine taking the bronze. GOODE skier Javier Julio earned the silver in Men’s overall.
In the team competition, the United States took the gold, with Canada and France finishing second and third, respectively.

George Haswell, 2006 mens 8 Nationals Overall winner, Numerous Regional championships, Wet Set club member for 5:30am 11/26/2013. George will always be remembered as a Great friend to us all. His presence was acute, listening to so many, even when his hearing was poor! George always stayed active, if not on the water, then snow skiing, or hiking with Fran in the Sierra’s or Joshua Tree or somewhere, when not working on his cabin in Big Bear which is where his ashes will be spread in the Rose garden so passers by can still pay him greetings. This Pillar of So Cal waterskiing has touched multi generations reaching back to the 70’s. Survived by son George Haswell, Kirk Haswell and Fran Penn. No services, he simply wouldn’t want that.
But remember his fire, his passion, his ability, coaching and encouragement and see if you can do as much as well as George Haswell.

Rarely have we seen such excellent Waterski competition conditions. The Lago los Morros man-made lake, on the outskirts of Santiago, provides facilities which are amongst the best in the world and so performances are also expected to be exceptional. With Official Practice completed on Monday, the remainder of the week will see all athletes chasing one of the 12 Finals places on Saturday and Sunday. On Tuesday, 59 will compete in Slalom and Tricks, on Wednesday, 83 will compete in Jump and Slalom, Thursday will be a Tricks day with 60 on the water and Friday will be exclusively Jump with 61 athletes involved. The top 12 will then take on the Finals battle for the medals on Saturday and Sunday. Apart from the Webcast, live scores can be followed throughout on:

All current World Champions are on site this time to defend their titles. These include Thomas Degasperi (ITA) and Whitney McClintock (CAN) in Slalom, Aliaksei Zharnasek and Natallia Berdnikava (BLR) in Tricks, and Freddy Krueger USA and Natallia Berdnikava (BLR) again in Jump. The Overall title holders Adam Sedlmajer (CZE) and Natalia Berdnikava (BLR) will also defend these titles. However, just today, Nate Smith (USA) had a new World Slalom record of 2.5 buoys on the 9.75m line approved, Erika Lang USA had a new World Tricks Record approved last week of 10,180 points and Regina Jaquess (USA) set the Women’s World Slalom Record in July of 3.5 buoys on the 10.25m line. None of these is a current World Champion. In other words, the reigning World Champions will have a very tough job to hang on to those medals! This will make it a fascinating event and one not to miss on the live Webcast.
The President of the Chilean Olympic Committee, Mr Nevin Ilic, will be on site to witness what promises to be a very exciting World Championships. Also on site will be the latest inductees to the International Hall of Fame – Lucky Lowe (USA), Nadine de Villiers (RSA), Bill Bowness (USA) and Ron Fergusson (AUS). Their inauguration will be on Thursday in Santiago.

One of the world’s most beautiful Waterski arenas, Lago los Morros, is located on the outskirts of Santiago in Chile and is already buzzing with anticipation. Running for five days from November 26, the IWWF World Waterski Championships will be staged for the first time in Chile at this well proven site. The manmade lake is as close to perfect as is possible and with sunny 23C / 74Fh weather predicted and a water temperature also of 23C, the stage is now set for a truly spectacular event.

These include Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, France, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Russia, Slovakia, Republic of South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Uruguay and USA. Once again, the two largest squads are from the USA and France with 17 and 15 athletes each. They are also the countries which have won the most gold medals over the years. USA has taken home 149 and France 28. MasterCraft will provide the official boats and technical support.
Untypically, every gold medalist from the previous 2011 World Waterski Championships in Dubna Russia will now compete at Lago los Morros to defend their titles. Thankfully, injuries have not kept them away. Certainly, each will be under enormous pressure from the impressive talent rising through the ranks at this time.

She too set a new World Slalom Record four months ago of 3.5 buoys on the 10.25m line. OTTAWA - For the first time since 1993, Team Canada at the World Water Ski Championships will not include Jaret Llewellyn. After over a year of intense rehabilitation, Llewellyn suffered a setback in training that will keep him out of the World Championships in Santiago, Chile.
“Jaret has been an incredible leader both on and off the water” said National Team Head Coach Steve Bush. “Both in terms of his leadership and his performance on the water, there really is no replacing an athlete like Jaret. Even in the past few weeks, Jaret has inspired the rest of the team with an incredible work ethic. He has left no stone unturned in his rehab efforts”.
Over the course of an incredible career to date, Llewellyn has captured 12 world championship medals, including 7 golds. In addition to the Worlds hardware, Llewellyn also has 6 Pan American Games medals (4 Gold, 2 Silver) and the honour of being Canada’s flag bearer at the 2007 Opening Ceremonies to his credit. “For going on twenty years now, all of Canadian sport has been inspired by Jaret as an athlete, a leader and an innovator in our sport. We fully expect that we will continue to be inspired by Jaret as he continues his preparation for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto” said Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada CEO David Patterson.
Taking on the task of replacing Llewellyn will be Belleville Ontario’s Neilly Ross. Ross, at the tender age of 13 has already achieved great heights so far this season. Ross started the year out with a silver medal performance at the U17 Worlds, followed that up with silver at the Masters, and a top ten finish at the U21 worlds. In the process, she also claimed an Open Canadian championship in trick and set four Canadian records. “Neilly really is an exceptional athlete with a very bright future” said Steve Bush. “She has three trick scores of over 7000 already this year and that will put her in a spot where she can contribute to the team score and have an incredible learning experience competing against the very best in the world”. If she finds the enormity of worlds to be a problem, Ross will be blessed with the ability to turn to someone close to her who knows the pressures all too well, her father Drew. Drew Ross has a silver medal from Worlds (as well as three more from Pan Am Games) to his credit.
Team Canada will take to the water in Santiago, Chile from November 25 to December 1. Canada has won 59 medals at the Worlds, starting with Charles Blackwell in 1953 at the first ever World Water Ski Championship.

A few days after I arrived into Australia I got straight back on a plane to fly from Adelaide to Albury, we then drove a few hours to the most remote location I have ever been. We arrived at Columbo Creek, we were surrounded by two massive 100,000 acres farms.
I was there to coach skiing to 18 Children. The weather was perfect for the 1st week, I flew my helicopter as you can see on the video, this was the last time I saw my helicopter. Week two was windy, but the kids wanted to see it fly, I took it a few meters of the ground when it all went wrong.. My helicopter had a mind of its own.. I’m sure it wanted to fly back to the UK. Anyway it took off and shot of in the 40kph winds. From then on I recruited most of the kids to come help me search, I tracked my search using my iPhone, and over 2 days I had walked 40km over 12hrs. We even took all the ski school kids on a ‘ghost walk’ that night, (or maybe it was a helicopter hunt) anyway they all had fun. Unfortunately we didn’t find it. I lost my DJI Phantom and Gopro Hero 3 ☹ sad times.

OTTAWA, ON - Today, Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada announced its team for the 2013 World Water Ski Championships. Canada will send a group of ten skiers, including six whose scores will contribute to the team overall event. The world championships will take place in Santiago, Chile from November 25 to December 1.
The team this year brings a unique mix of world championship experience and the enthusiasm of youth, “It is has been a long time since we had a rookie on the team and to have two on the team shows our development program is working” said National Team Head Coach Steve Bush. In the team overall category, Canada will be represented by:

Jason McClintock • Cambridge, Ontario
Jaret Llewellyn • Innisfail, Alberta
Ryan Dodd • Olds, Alberta
Stephen Neveu • Calgary, Alberta

Canada will also be represented by independent skiers who have qualified for the event via their standings on the world rankings list. These skiers are eligible to medal at the Worlds, but their scores will not count towards Canada’s team overall standing:

Canada has a long, rich history in Water Skiing with world champions dating back to the first world championships and Charles Blackwell in 1953 through to the team overall championship captured by Canada, in Calgary, in 2009.
Of the current members of Team Canada, Whitney McClintock (2009, 2011) and Jaret Llewellyn (9 times) have previously captured a world championship. At the U21 level, Stephen Neveu is coming off of a world championship this September, and in 2012 Alex Paradis claimed the World University championship at the same lake in Santiago.
