    Hello, ski world!
I am Taryn Garland, the new Program Development Coordinator at USA Water Ski. I want to properly introduce myself, as it is my goal to build strong relationships with our members and potential members so that I can best support you.
I am originally from Madison, Wis., and was an active member of the Mad-City Ski Team for 11 years. During my time on the team, I learned early on that the water-skiing community is one full of dedicated, passionate people that go above and beyond for a sport that they love. Being a part of this community is a unique experience and as they say, “From the outside looking in, you can never understand it. From the inside looking out, you can never explain it.” I am grateful for having experienced life on the inside.
In addition to my time as a show skier, I attended the University of Wisconsin (GO BADGERS!) where I studied Spanish and Mathematics. I spent two years traveling around the Midwest as a singer/dancer with the Wisconsin Singers and took a leap outside of my comfort zone through a year living abroad in Madrid, Spain. Upon graduating from UW, I moved to central Florida and served as an AmeriCorps volunteer for two years and later became a high school Math and Spanish teacher. My life has not taken a linear path, but it has provided me with an array of opportunities that has led me to this position with USA Water Ski. Through my experience in program development, education and over a decade in the show skiing world, I am committed to growing the education and developmental programs of USA Water Ski.
This position is brand new to USA Water Ski and my responsibilities are:
♦ Serve as the primary liaison for the National Show Ski Association
♦ Create, improve and administer introductory and developmental programs, such as the “Get on the Water!” Program (Formally, Basic Skills Challenge Series and the Grassroots Program)
♦ Collaborate with USA Water Ski’s Director of Competition & Events and with the Director of Marketing & Partnerships
♦ Lead initiatives on developing and producing USA-WS merchandise, apparel and introducing new assets
In short, my job is to develop new tools and programs to grow and support people who love to be on the water; my job is to help you.
As a former show skier, my experience will contribute to how I navigate through my responsibilities; however, I think it is most important that I gather as much perspective from the experts on the front lines: you! Please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason. I’d love to hear your comments and suggestions as I continue to move forward with junior development programs, collegiate growth programs, membership outreach and more.
I am thrilled to be taking on this position with USA Water Ski and am looking forward to the progress and success that we can achieve together.
    To the beach!
    Taryn Garland

The Women's Sports Foundation is an amazing foundation that promotes women in sports and pushes for the equal opportunity of women in sports. Yearly, they host a red carpet event that is held in New York City. My experience at the event was extremely inspiring, and it left me wanting to do more in promoting women in sports. Through my waterskiing accomplishments, my ability to encourage young girls to get active and out on the water is very possible. I hope to inspire young girls to become more active in whatever sport they desire to do. However, hopefully, they pick waterskiing!
While I was at the Women's Sports Foundation, I was not only inspired by the message that the foundation so strongly believes in but also by the other athletes there. I had the chance to meet some of the most famous athletes in women's sports today that have always been my inspiration. I had the honor to meet Nastia Liukin, Missy Franklin, Billie Jean King, Sarah Hughes, Michelle Kwan, Dianna Nyad, Laila Ali, and Venus Williams. Being invited to this prestigious event has opened so many doors for me and for the sport of waterskiing. I was able to promote not only myself and my accomplishments, but also to promote the sport of waterskiing and to show the world just how awesome our sport is!

The ultimate in cross-over ski technology, skis designed to deliver maximum performance with unparalleled efficiently. The all-new 2014 Cross-Over Collection marries the world record capable design of the Syndicate A3 with the ultra-efficient Clean Edge technology of the revolutionary Freeride ski, to create the perfect cross of performance and efficiency. The HO Syndicate design team began with record breaking A3 design, increased the surface area of the ski by one ski size from the tip of the ski to the just behind the heel of the rear foot. Behind the rear foot the skis transition from traditional to futuristic as the sidewalls rotate inward like a wakeboard edge and ski bevels disappear in the tail section of the ski. The combination of these two feature allows the water to cleanly release directly off the bottom of the ski, as opposed to the traditional ski design in which water wraps around the bevel of the ski, up the sidewall and releases of the upper edge of the ski, thereby reducing the drag associated with this portion of the ski by 50%. Clean Edge technology is a step into the modern age of ski design and the lack of physical effort required to ride these skis will forever change a skier’s perception of what is possible. Imagine riding an A3 designed to rip off 60 turns instead of 6 and you will begin to understand the powerful combination of performance and efficiency skiers are tapping into on HO Cross-Over Collection skis.

The artificial lake Los Morros has already hosted some Junior World Championships, Under 21 World Championships, Pan American Championships, Latin American Championships, 2012 University World Championships and Americas’ Challenge. Gifted with privileged natural conditions and complemented with top edge technology, the Santiago artificial lake is today one of the most highly valued places by the European skiers at the time of crossing the Equator in search for the best temperatures when the winter comes.
Due to its strategic location and the presence of a natural tree wall at the west side, in Los Morros usually there is no breeze, which insures very promising conditions for the skiers. The lake is 850 meters long and 80 meters wide at the slalom and figure court, this size amplifies in the jumping area where it reaches a width of 100 meters.
