Administrators Horton Posted June 20, 2011 Administrators Share Posted June 20, 2011 I was able to sit in the boat today for Militia's Sac-Town GOLD RUSH practice. The craziest thing I saw, beside Nate Smith, is the fact that nearly every skier tweaked their ZO letter and number. Us regular guys find a setting and stick with it. The pros are all about moving around according to the boat and the water. I took a Crap Load of photos. More to come. Below are my favs for now. Baller skibug Posted June 21, 2011 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2011 Is Jonathan Travers just messing around with releasing his opposite hand or what? Also, I have heard the same thing from some senior drivers about changing ZO settings; even in the middle of a set as the rope gets shorter or the skier gets more fatigued. Boat + ZO combination makes a difference in the feel of the pull....NO DOUBT!
Baller Roger Posted June 21, 2011 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2011 I think those shots of Jon were probably at the 6 ball; showing off.
Baller Boody Posted June 21, 2011 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2011 Those pics were unreal. Asher and Nate Smith do such a great job of keeping their shoulders square at the finish, amazing.
Baller ski4xtc Posted June 21, 2011 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2011 Horton, were the pros practicing behind the Carbon Pro? Was there any consistent direction they were changing their Zero Off settings too?
Baller Razorskier1 Posted June 21, 2011 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2011 Horton -- thanks for the pictures. I learn something every time I see pictures or video of great skiers. The pictures of Nate Smith approaching the wake from the 3/5 side, in the wake, and exiting the second wake through the edge change are particularly helpful. Baller Boody Posted June 21, 2011 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2011 Some insane skiing, NATE SMITH!!. Bob LaPoint in there too? So who is in the finals?
Baller gjohnson Posted June 21, 2011 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2011 From what I gather, it's a cumulative score of the best 2 rounds out of 3. The only two skiers with a realistic chance at beating Nate are CP & T-Gas.
bxroads
Let me qualify this by saying I'm a certified greenhorn. What effect does the boat driver have on the scores? Take the masters for instance, insanely impressive scores across the board on Saturday and unimpressive scores across the board on Sunday in nearly identical conditions. Could it be that the boat driver had a good day on Saturday and a bad day on Sunday?

Old MS Accout
I can see moveing the numbers within a letter class but to go from A3 to C2 is insane. The settings will give you the same basic feel from boat to boat but it is maybe going from B1 to B2 that would make sense. Just ski.
Old MS Accout
Greg is correct. Nate is 7 up on them and they would need to get 1@43 and Nate would have to not have a good 3rd round. Nate could also run big and put an end to both of them. D3x7 with T factors. Hardshells, who needs them.
Baller gjohnson Posted June 22, 2011 Baller Share Posted June 22, 2011 @scotchipman I haven't seen a published score sheet. You can see them live via twitter or using the Ballofscores app. Check the front page for tweets from the site.

Baller Boody Posted June 22, 2011 Baller Share Posted June 22, 2011 Just a few years ago, running a 39 at a pro event was awesome. Last couple years, it took 3 at 41 to win. I just can't believe one would have to beat 1 at 43 to win now. Glad I'm not a pro skier right now.
Baller Shortenit Posted June 22, 2011 Baller Share Posted June 22, 2011 He was using A2 behind a MC at Shortline a while ago (and ran 41 off). Don't know if he has changed settings since then or when he's behind the Carbon Pro
Baller jipster43 Posted June 22, 2011 Baller Share Posted June 22, 2011 Wasn't someone here doubting that Nate ran 2 bouys at 43 off at Sunset Ranch? Suddenly that score sounds a lot more plausible. What an awesome time to be a fan of Waterskiing! I don't remember a time when there were so many viable pros competing against each other. Too bad the revolution will not be televised! mrpreuss
@ boody - It is his unsurpassed strength to weight ratio and his strength/power in the transition/pre-release with 2 hands on the handle. There are some good pics of Will applying the same way above.
