Has anyone tried the Soloshot for video

Looks pretty cool for practice. It wouldn't work well for tournaments since the skier has to wear an armband to allow the system to track. Multiple armbands would add significantly to the overall cost.

I wonder if it would pan fast enough for boat video for slalom... I suspect not. Might be neat for shore video.

Bringing this back up. The new Soloshot3 is due for release soon. The tracker/beacon is much smaller than before. Can't tell if you can start or stop video from the beacon itself, which would be cool. New version pans at 120 degrees/second, meaning it's fast enough to follow us mortals. Should technically be able to follow pros at 41 with that, especially if it's mounted ahead of the pylon (tower mount would be cool). It requires one of their cameras for auto-zoom.

Yeah, that was an older version. New one does 120 degrees/sec. Would like to try it mounted up on the center of the windshield.

Just received an email from SoloShot. They expect to ship the first units this fall. Hopefully, I will get a chance to test it before it gets too cold.

Saw this as a YouTube add a few weeks back and thought it would be cool to use for skiing. Keep us posted if you get one

the current soloshot can pan fast enough to track your skiing but the base that pans and tilts the camera must remain stationary, which means it can't be mounted on a moving platform such as a ski boat. would work fine sitting fixed on a dock as you ski past it. apologies if some body else already mentioned this and you're still interested.

Does it need to be in a fixed location or could it be mounted to a spot on the boat that has less vibration than the pylon?

@DaveD - I am guessing that the issue is it is following based upon the beacon's GPS and the base's known GPS. If the base is stationary, then the math is a lot simpler than if both the base and the beacon are moving down the lake.

@DaveD -base unit cannot be moving relative to the earth. it actually took around 10 minutes to establish its global location with gps before it could even work recognize a tag.
