Impressive and congrats to Nate. It is always cool to be able to witness (certainly live, but even on film) athletic greatness and records being broken.

On a different slant, since this forum banters about how to expose and make the sport more popular, one way to draw interest is to demonstrate the challenge of the sport. It would be interesting to be able to document the acceleration levels, rope tension, arm/core/leg strength required to accomplish what Nate just did. The Wow factor is something this sport needs to propel itself to be of interest to more than just the hard core gang on sites like this.

Is it wrong that am enjoying seeing Nate actually crash? Kinda nice to know he is mortal.

Well, actually the evidence for that is pretty slim when it happens after the 3rd ball at -43...

In any case, new WR seems likely to happen soon. That will be even more fun that watching Nate crash in a loop!

@ozski "redundant"? It really has nothing to do with it. Most rules and equipment changes effect the rank and file ordinary average participant, not the current world record holder who has constant access and is sponsored by the boat company and water skis for a living. Nate has had more sets behind that ZO them most people will all next summer.

I had a fall similar to that when I was in my 20s and the back compression that resulted is something I still remember today in my 40s. I was incapacitated for a couple days and very stiff and sore for a month or so. However, I'm sure I wasn't nearly as fit as a professional athlete would be. Still ... ouch.

@MattP

Yep.just went to the IWWF site and read about it.

They also mention that the boat will be a 2016 6.2 with ''latest'' ZO revision...

No mention of number of puck... :wink:

My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!

@Drago I'm not convinced the ordinary and average skiers you reference could accurately pick the difference between ZO settings / systems if tested. Focus less on iterative and what appears to be necessary changes and more on form and technique, don't let it get inside your head. Nate has less margin for error than most of us, he just proved that it can be done and that's good enough for me. Back in the day I skied tournaments where they used foot throttle, imagine pushing back on the switch to hand throttle, then PP and so it goes...

@ozski, I agree. As a mid 35 skier most sets I can barely tell the difference between ZO and PP except at the gates, and my PB is behind ZO. I can tell but it's minimal. I know many that are far more aware than I am, but it's still negligible enough that it shouldn't impact the skiing majority in a material way

@Horton Yer sir. I think that some of the things ZO is working on right now will have a significant impact on skier satisfaction. I've had the opportunity to try some drawing board stuff and the pull is really nice - smoother than the "normal" ZO pull, regardless of your setting. Also, the plus setting may be heading for the dust bin. That all said, I skied behind an older Nautique with Accuski yesterday, and that had a reasonably nice feel as well.
