Does anyone know Don McClelland?

A friend purchased and is restoring a 73 Ski Nautique Promo Boat (Bright Orange with the Big Black Letters down the side).

The name plate reads "73 Ski Nautique Don McClelland"

 

He bought the boat in California, and it has Diablo Ski Club emblems on the windshield, but not certain where the boat

may have originally been sold.

 

Anyway, if anyone knows Don McClelland, we thought it might be interesting to track him down.

I don't know Don but that boat sounds familiar! Mine was a 1972 and I had it for a few years in the late 70s and early 80s. Great boat!

Looks pretty much like that @ESPNSkier. I know 4 gents who own them now. Three in nice shape. One on its way back.

Wonder if the wake was similar to a 1979? Skied a bunch behind one of those and yes tough wakes! But at the time we sure did not complain!

Thanks @Hallpass! Let me know if one of them is my old boat (Hull Serial #1958) as I would love to know where it is now. I bought it in Louisiana and it was headed to Arkansas the last time I saw it about 35 years ago. It was such a step up from the Glastron Carlson CVX17 that I was skiing behind. Yes @Gar, as I recall the wakes on the 70s Nautiques were fairly consistent up until the launch of the 2001 (1981?). It was an awesome boat to ski behind at 36 mph but I did break two EPs in half over a couple of years.
