Baller LOTW Posted June 29, 2019 Baller Share Posted June 29, 2019 Can anyone recommend a good brand/model? Between 2 of us we've tried 4 different ones and they're all junk! Inaccurate, finiky and falling apart. In Canada too preferably but willing to support you southern folk. Thanks!
Baller bparson Posted June 29, 2019 Baller Share Posted June 29, 2019 Starrett, Brown&sharpe or Mitutoyo if you don’t mind spending the dough. These were the big 3 back in the day.
Baller BraceMaker Posted June 29, 2019 Baller Share Posted June 29, 2019 Honestly for ski set up, vernier calipers are still pretty easy. I for sure prefer digital when doing machine work for doing offset or difference measurement. But having a stainless vernier you can leave it on the dock or throw in the truck. Never needs a battery
Administrators Horton Posted June 29, 2019 Administrators Share Posted June 29, 2019 I made the move back to dial calipers a few years ago and could not be happier. I even own some expensive digitales but 100% prefer the analog for accuracy and consistency Goode ★ HO Syndicate ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ PerfSki Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes ★ Baller Video Coaching System Drop a dime in the can
Baller bparson Posted June 29, 2019 Baller Share Posted June 29, 2019 Dial calipers all the way. What I was thinking in my previous post. I’ve got both and for reliability and longevity dial is the way to go. Had the same set in my ski tool kit since the mid 90’s.
Baller APB Posted June 29, 2019 Baller Share Posted June 29, 2019 I bought this one. It works great. https://www.amazon.ca/Neiko-Digital-Standard-Conversation-Stainless/dp/B000NEA0P8
Baller skialex Posted June 29, 2019 Baller Share Posted June 29, 2019 Mitutoyo digimatic coolant proof 8” or a Mitutoyo dial 8” caliper. They are costly but you will never have to buy a caliper again, ever. Now if you ride Goode and want to put factory settings then you will need a slot caliper, not the best quality but very easy to use.
Baller vtmecheng Posted June 29, 2019 Baller Share Posted June 29, 2019 I've had the same analog calipers since 1999 and it will continue to work for many years to come. Forgot digital unless you are in a machine shop.

Baller_ Bruce_Butterfield Posted July 1, 2019 Baller_ Share Posted July 1, 2019 Here’s one comparable to mitoyta at half the price https://www.amazon.com/iGaging-ABSOLUTE-Digital-Electronic-Caliper/dp/B00K3PZVKG/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=igaging+8”+digital+caliper&qid=1562012397&s=gateway&sr=8-1 If it was easy, they would call it Wakeboarding
Baller gregy Posted July 1, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 1, 2019 I use the same coolant proof ones @skialex uses. Had them for several years and never had any issue.
Baller skialex Posted July 1, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 1, 2019 Need reading glasses to use my dial caliper, can use my digital caliper without my glasses around.
Baller ToddL Posted July 2, 2019 Baller Share Posted July 2, 2019 I've been using the same ones @Bruce_Butterfield reference for 3 years now with no complaints. Roughly $60 on Amazon. I have cleaned them once using 90% alcohol: Fully open to max setting to expose the pin and slide channel mechanism. Hold with the electronics up and pour the 90% alcohol onto the slide channel and pin making sure it does NOT come into contact with the electronics. Wipe dry with a lent-free cloth. Ensure fully dry/evaporated before closing. (This process cleans the pin/slide channel for smoother operation.)
