Canuck444
I am looking at a couple of used boats, just sold my nautique 216 and am looking at the two noted above, both open bow both have a tower both with the 350. Which one has a better slalom wake. I am mostly 32 mph 15/22 off. The old nautique had a bad bump at 22 off and am hoping to get a better slalom wake at those longer line lengths. Would either be a noticeable improvement over the 216?
Canuck444
Also looking at a 2011 197 with the 6.0 but assuming it would have the same wake as the 05?
Baller_ MISkier Posted August 23, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted August 23, 2020 Ski all of them, if you can. I’d lean towards the Malibu. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller Ski_Dad Posted August 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 23, 2020 you really need to ski them. I know my earlier hull LXI is better than a 197 at those lengths but there is still a bump at 22 (prob average) the 2007 lxi, you might need to check the dash layout for Perfect Pass option, some of them had Malibu cruise instead
Baller Andre Posted August 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 23, 2020 Both will be big improvement over the 216.Which engine in the MC ? a 197 with the 310 is missing some power IMO. MC with the 6.0 are loud.May take that into consideration too if you ski early near homes. My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance! Baller 6balls Posted August 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 23, 2020 'Bu may have slightly better wake at your line/speed. MC is built better. 'Bu may be more versatile with wedge for boarding sports, and has a better barefoot wake.
Canuck444
He says the Mac has the bigger motor he says a 330hp 350 instead of the 310, I didn’t know they had 2 different 350s just on my way to look at them both
Baller BraceMaker Posted August 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 23, 2020 I’m an mc guy but would go LXI. 06 to 13 I think should be similar don’t remember if it was 03 that got the change or later
Baller UWSkier Posted August 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 23, 2020 LXi 03 to 06 was the sleek nose dipper. 07 to 11 was the second gen LXi. Still a good boat but not quite as lauded as the original.
Canuck444
The lxi has Zero off, manual wedge, swivel Racks, hot water shower and bimini looking good for the lxi
Baller UWSkier Posted August 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 23, 2020 Nice that someone has done the work to convert the LXi to ZO already! That's a very nice differentiator
Baller bananaron Posted August 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 23, 2020 I have had a 2008 MC PS for the last 3 yrs and had a couple Malibu LXI I prefer the wake on the LXI at all line lengths. They are both good family boats and have lots of room.I think you need to ski both at various line length and have others in your family do the same.I now have a Carbon Pro and its way better then either boat......Remember its all personal preference and you have to ski them. CHodge
Love the LXI’s! Very versatile, great slalom and barefoot boat!
Canuck444
Both boats were nice but the Malibu had a lot more options including the zero off so Ended up going with the lxi hopefully the weather holds for a bit here and I can get some time behind it. Baller jjackkrash Posted August 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 24, 2020 One thing that doesn't help a 22 off bump is a tower; especially at sub-36/34 mph speeds. Edit: And congrats on the new boat!
Baller APB Posted August 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 24, 2020 Lxi in a heartbeat

xraydoc
Jjackkrash - this may be a newbie question but how does a tower affect the wake - is it just the weight or something else?
Baller jjackkrash Posted August 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 24, 2020 @xraydoc, just extra weight.
Baller aupatking Posted August 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 24, 2020 Congrats on the new boat! The ZO alone would have sold me. You’ll love the bu.
Baller Vernon Reeve Posted August 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 24, 2020 The tower on my 2003 Malibu Response lxi is under 50 lbs, centered over the middle of the boat. So kind of like having a small child in the passenger seat. Therefore I doubt my tower makes the wake much bigger. Your tower might be different, however. Baller owennibley Posted August 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 24, 2020 The LXi is a better all around family boat, paired with Zero Off would make it a no brainer for me. Good choice. Hope you enjoy it.

Baller WoodySkier Posted August 25, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 25, 2020 If you’re skiing the course and the LXi has zero off vs the MC with I assume PP classic, that’s a huge upgrade
Canuck444
The Mastercraft just had Mastercraft cruise, so big difference for sure, Haven't skiied it yet , can’t wait but it won’t be today, it’s the opener for elk season here and I have to go try to find one after work.
