Ski's made out of grafit

Did water ski company's ever use grafit to build water skis as a third option over fibre glass and carbon fibre?

graphite is simply another term for carbon fiber. it is the same material. all high-end modern skis have an almost entirely carbon fiber & epoxy outer skin. Some modern skis will have a small amount of fiberglass for durability.

@Mose think of graphite vs carbon fiber sheet like keratin vs a wool shirt.

 

Hair is made of karatin, if that keratin were to be grown into a long skinny strand that fiber we would call hair. If that hair is bundled into strands we call that yarn or thread, if those are woven we have a wool fabric cloth.

 

If we arrange graphite into a long skinny fiber it is a carbon fiber, if we bundle that into strands and weave it we have carbon sheets.

 

But I can take powdered graphite (like you might use to lube a lock or compress to make a pencil) and I can mix that graphite into an epoxy, and then saturate a fiberglass material with that resin and press it into a mold and let it harden.

 

The result would be a Graphite reinforced fiberglass part. Think grey heavy tennis rackets from 1980. Lots of graphite, not the same as carbon fiber. Still called graphite, better than aluminum or wood nothing like the modern all carbon fiber laminate items, still graphite. Golf clubs and all sorts of other items didnthis as marketing too
