My swing pin gets removed a couple times every week, never put any grease on it though. Can't say if the trailer has any warning stickers on it, the capacity/Vin sticker is the only one I recall.

@TomH A dripless that doesn't need a waterline? Curious how that is supposed to work/ how long it lives. I looked it up and the details are pretty non-existant.

Don't know what brand my Malibu uses but 9 years later it is still dripless. Can't say that I have heard of failures on the Malibu forums.

Heck, my 2012 350ss 5.7 derates with 87 octane. That is why I say try the top speed test. I can hit 48mph with good 91 octane fuel. With 87 it just gets to 43.

If you want a good test - top speed with 91 octane, top speed with 87. Assuming your pond is big enough to hit top speed.

That's great, but I never understand why people buy 50-100K+ boats and don't have a spare prop and the tools to change it in the boat.

If the engine worked the plug broke I would just stick a tube down the hole and vacuum it out. Then stick a borescope in to see if you got it all. Start it up and use it. Not sure how much money I would put into a 351w, but make sure you can get exhaust manifolds and risers for it before spending any money rebuilding an obsolete motor.

And since I RTFM for MN Shortliner (kidding). I also looked at the manual for a 2013 Mastercraft @Wheels https://www.mastercraft.com/media/vkehc0bm/2013_mastercraft_owners_manual.pdf Look at page 3-12 and it will show you how to see the fault codes on a 197 (Fault Screen)

@MNshortliner - https://www.themalibucrew.com/_files/malibu/malibu_2012_manual.pdf Page 38. Go to the Service/Diagnostics/Fault Codes Menu So that gets you the basic info - the fault code which can give you a good idea of things to look at. If you want all the captured sensor data for the fault or want to clear the fault then you need the diacom/techmate. I have the Diacom because it is a lot easier to read and log data but you need a laptop to use it. The techmate is a standalone device.

@MNshortliner - maybe. In the boats with the upgraded electronics there is a larger screen in the area you are describing. I'll have to look at the manual and see if you can read them on the little display.

@MNshortliner - there are not cheap MEFI code readers, there is basically techmate or diacom from Rinda. But a lot of the newer boats will show you the codes in one of the screens. (Like my 2012 Malibu)

Yup - if you are going to own an out of warranty boat, it is good to figure out how to at least read the codes. If you have to wait around for a dealer to look at and fix everything in a place with a short season, boat ownership will be painful. It is good you were able to get it in right away, here that would be a 2 week wait this time of year.

If you really want a unicorn, try to find a Malibu FXI. Basically a direct drive vtx hull. Direct drive skiing with enough freeboard to be on a bigger lake.

Yeah, the problem with SS LXI is that they have not made them in a really long time. My inlaws had one before they bought a response, and they are marginally larger than a response but still not the kind of boat you are going to put 5 people in and spend the day on a large lake. It's all tradeoffs, personally a skiable V-drive works for me but the under 30mph performance is an issue for teaching kids.

Just be aware that the vinegar strips all the wax off your boat. I use eagle 1 wax as you dry for waterspots on my mostly black boat. Don't understand what you would be spraying that it is going to wind up on the floor of the boat though. Maybe use less and spray it on a rag? This does require that the boat actually has a decent coat of wax on it. If the waterspots are on the bare gelcoat then you need something like collinite fiberglass boat cleaner and then get a good coat of wax on the boat.

I will also say that your question is likely better on some of the brand based forums, a good percentage of the folks here would not consider skiing behind a v-drive ;)

Depends on what speed/line length you are running currently in your sterndrive and what the wake looks like. My previous boat - 7 years ago was a 2005 19 ft Bayliner 195, at 32MPH it had a very usable wake at 15 off. The wake on my Malibu VTX is also very good at that speed and line length, but at slower speeds under 30 it is pretty rough. Your best bet will be a water test of the boat you want to purchase.
