  1. Need to think outside the box. This was one guys solution on the malibu crew ;) As I recall he built something that looked like a radiator box on the inside of the house.
  2. Pretty complicated - pins on both outside members and a sliding internal bar in the middle - which hopefully has a pin in it too. Personally I would not do this.
  3. I guess if it were me I would pull the dash and disconnect/reconnect the harness that is going to the screen, and the connection at the brain box (medallion?) under the dash. Also check the bus bar under the dash and make sure all the ground screws are tight. Since it sounds like it is just a canbus communication issue that is not impacting the ECU itself (since the boat runs). In my 2012 I have an issue with my upper screen every once in a while that requires the connector be plugged and unplugged, although in that case it is just the RCA cable from the brain box.
  4. The rules are not for surf boats either - they are for over powered low gunneled center consoles. The type of boats that exist in the coast guard waters. This is not an inland lake regulation (unless your state decides to make it one)
  5. If they care about USCG regulations about kill switches, why don't they also require competitors to wear USCG life jackets?
  6. Did they fix the issue that the 11 had where the cameras were getting damaged when used in a vibration prone environment (mounted on a motorcycle or boat)
  7. Hey, it is beautiful here in MN. It is around 50 degrees and it hasn't snowed in 2 days.
  8. FWIW - when I had a Merc engine, I just used the quicksilver 25W-40 they recommended in the manual because it was cheap and I could buy it pretty much anywhere. Should also say that my Inlaws have always just used 15w40 Rotella in the Black Scorpion Merc in their LXI. In the end, they are all the same GM Marine crate engines regardless of who the marinizer was.
  9. A mercruiser is an I/O. But in any event a merc 5.7 is a merc 5.7 The manual for your engine is here https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiS8vvM0YDwAhUkB50JHRhXAjsQFjABegQIBRAD&url=https%3A%2F%2Fus.v-cdn.net%2F5020499%2Fuploads%2FFileUpload%2F35%2F24c9dbda1b871c01ec4324f4912a98.pdf&usg=AOvVaw0tO-lJVT36S-_y0DIWh3oY And it says 25W-40 or a good quality 20W-40 or 20W-50. No requirement for synthetic
  10. Could be that everyone is just thinking it is a scam and not inquiring about it ;)
  11. @LeonL - When you learned to ski behind that 75HP boat, were you over 200lbs?
  12. You have to work to get out of the water behind a boat with only 115 HP. That is the primary reason I sold my 140HP runabout years ago in favor of a 350HP crossover ski boat. I'd suggest trying to get out of the water with a drop ski to start.
  13. In the spirit of full disclosure, I am not any sort of electrical engineer or electrician - but I have zapped myself plenty and I will be staying at a Holiday Inn Express tomorrow ;)
  14. The plastic isn't really an insulator in this case since it is the source of the static and you are trying to negate the difference between the ground potential of the pump and the actual ground. As far as grounding the rack - in the olden days some pumps used to actually have a ground strap with a clamp that you could hook to something. Can't recall if that was just diesel pumps or if some gas pumps had them. It was back in the day during college when I was driving trucks that were full of AV-Gas and chemicals for a heli-crop duster. So we did our best not to screw up and get a spark ;) Unfortunately since the rack is painted there is a pretty decent chance that grounding it wouldn't do anything ;)
  15. Potentially very dangerous, but likely a one in tens of thousands chance of it happening. You do have to get a static spark to occur in the vapor at the top of the can. Kind of like all the people who used to smoke while gassing up their cars, only a few of them blew themselves up ;)
  16. I've got a 14 gallon caddy that we bring to the lake when we are staying for a week. Otherwise it is the fuel supply for all the yard equipment. Anything much bigger than that would be a pain for me to lift in and out of the pickup bed. If we lived on the lake I think I would just get one of those $3000 fuel trailers.
  17. @Horton - you mean that MN pumps have a warning sticker that California pumps don't? Now I'm embarrassed for MN ;)
  18. Seems legal enough, but their tie down sucks. I wouldn't be filling plastic cans without setting them on the ground. Static sucks.
  19. We just bought my wife a slasher at Scheels last week, it was one of the few that fit her properly and didn't look like a grocery sack. She has a Radar Cameo that we throw in the boat to be legal, but it is bulky and just doesn't fit girl shape very well.
  20. @2Valve - a magic eraser is a sanding sponge, and removes vinyl.
  21. I use wd40 to clean my motorcycle chains, it is a great solvent. I think I will stick with the 303 cleaner and protectant.
