  1. This is really good @Luzz. With the decline and closing of skifly's forum and of course no more Waterski Magazine, another source of information and entertainment in the ski world is much welcomed!
  2. Update: There is a flurry of activity around here trying to save our lakes from being drained by the Guadalupe and Blanco River Authority. The Chief of Staff from the Texas Governor's office was here on Monday and we are getting a great deal of local press in the papers and on the local news. There is a #saveourlakes movement that is gaining momentum. If you have a stake in this and wish to see the economy and the environment not take a disastrous hit then please consider taking a moment to write local and state authorities: Governor Abbott: htts://gov.texas.gov/contact State Senator Donna Campbell: donna.campbell@senate.texas.gov State Representative John Kuempel: john.kuempel@house.texas.gov Seguin Mayor Don Keil: dkeil@seguintexas.gov 3 key points: 1. Economic Impact to Guadalupe County, Texas 2. Environmental Impact 3. Potential loss of funding of public school districts due to possible decreased home values and lower tax revenues Simply ask for a plan that ensures the future growth and success of our community and not to hastily de-water the lakes. We are seeking an injunction to allow for further research and additional options to be brought to the table. We are concerned that once the lakes are drained that the likelihood of restoring them is slim. Everyone understands safety is important and if a temporary ban of recreational activity on these lakes as a precautionary safety measure needs to go into effect, I believe the population will abide and respect it. Any Texas ballers out there with ties to Lake McQueeney, Lake Placid, Lake Dunlap? Please help speak up and #saveourlakes! Thank you!
  3. I enjoyed watching this again. I recognize Bob and Kris. Who are some of the other skiers? Nasty otb by Bob! ?
  4. I was looking for this the other night on YouTube @Horton after hearing about your dad passing on but couldn't find it. I'm sorry for your loss. He seems like he was a hell of a great guy. For those of us who were kids in the 70s and became teens in the 80s, short films like this are awesome! Thank you for sharing this in this forum.
  5. @BoneHead I grew up on Treasure Island and taught lessons at the Ski Lodge from '84 to '88 as a teenager before doing ski lessons with Jody Hooten at Frameswitch the rest of my college summers. Shaker and I worked at the Lodge together. He did a lot of odd jobs around the lake. He brought some Sea World flair to our little Ski Bee ski shows. The Croan kids are younger but both of my brothers skied and wake boarded with them. I lived on Trelawney Street on the Island, my middle name is Cooper, hence @Cooper_Trelawney . My actual name is Travis Anderson. We probably have some friends in common. After I graduated from SWT in '92 I spent much more time on Lake Austin before moving to California in '97. My parents sold their house on the island right before the '98 flood. I was probably off the scene while you were out there. There are so many great stories on Lake McQueeney. I'm sure you have a few yourself! Its very sad news for all of us.
  6. This is really devastating for our community. I grew up living on Lake McQueeney, called the Waterski Capital of Texas. Joe Mueller was a world champion and world record holding jumper from McQueeney in the 1950s. His brother Buzz started the McQueeney Ski Bees and their family opened Lake Breeze Ski Lodge. My mom waterskied in the 60s and I skied through the 80s and 90s. Over the years there have been 1000s of kids who grew up skiing on that lake, putting on ski shows and skiing in tournaments. All of that stands to be lost. At least lost for a few years while plans are made, funds are raised, designs are worked up and new dams for the lakes along the Guadalupe River are constructed. In the meantime we stand to lose a major source of recreation, property values, jobs, etc. Its a big hit to our local economy. The lakes will be drained by the end of September. Let's all hope it comes together and soon and we're back on the lake in a couple of years.
  7. @horton I completely agree that a World Title is the highest achievement one can earn but when you look at the history of the World Championships, they have often been held on open sites that can get rough. I don't know why. Just a few of those include 2017 Paris, 2011 Dubna Russia, 2007 and 1991 Austria, 1979 Toronto, 1977 Milan and going back and back...It seems that when the Worlds have been held at top sites such as Okaheelee or Clermont FL that the conditions are great but there is no viewership. It seems like a trade-off for sure. The '61 Worlds were in Long Beach, CA. Can you imagine that?
  8. I often hear how much we miss the Pro Tour and television coverage of waterskiing. The Pro Tour was often hosted on dicey sites. Skiers like the Duvalls, LaPoints, Roberge, Mapple, etc became legends carving out wins in crazy bad conditions. I think one has to weigh out the potential equation of conditions versus exposure. We don't want to see season ending injuries occur but those types of injuries happen in even the best of conditions. Every time we ski we take a risk. IDK, I think that if the winning pass is a line length longer than usual but we get to showcase our sport to thousands of spectators then it's OK. Moomba is harsh on the skiers and not consistent. Even Robin Lake gets rolly. Let the skiers ski!
  9. @Horton yeah, I saw that post in my Instagram feed shortly after posting the question about Freddy here. Too bad, it's unfortunate he's missed 3 consecutive World Championships. Being who he is, he has the right attitude about it. I hope the Worlds turns out to be a great tournament!
  10. Is Freddy Krueger injured? I got an email to take him off my fantasy ski team. He jumped pretty far there 13 years ago!
  11. Back in the 80s I taught Barry Tubb and Alexandria Paul ski lessons. Barry Tubb was Jasper in Lonesome Dove and played Wolfman in Top Gun. Alexandria Paul was on Baywatch and played the Virgin Connie Swell in Dragnet. They were dating and in Texas during the filming of Lonesome Dove.
  12. If anyone is interested in permanently skiing in central Texas I have 3 properties listed for sale at San Marcos River Ranch and 1 at Austin Aquaplex. Great ski sites, great people, good climate, culture and economy. You can hardly beat it! Shoot me a DM if you're interested in hearing more!
  13. Yup. What @stxskier said. @Broussard
  14. Check out the Coolibar clothing line. I own a few of their long sleeve shirts and live where its 100 degrees and humid. Their stuff is comfortable, looks good and works.
  15. @Horton how about a full 2 ski trick pass finished with a 2 ski flip?
  16. Manon 3rd in woman's. Asher 2nd and Neveau 3rd mens
  17. I missed the runoff in the men's final. How did it turn out?
  18. Check out this beautiful residential home site at San Marcos River Ranch. Its the best priced waterfront lot in the development! Ideally located near San Marcos TX, in between Austin and San Antonio. The community is very active and fun! Send me a DM for more details.
  19. @ToddF there isn't any slalom courses that I know of. Buchanon is such a large and open basin and its not constant level. The water dropped dramatically during the drought about 5 years ago rendering most boat ramps unusable. Just below Lake Buchanon is Lake LBJ. There is a slalom course on Lake LBJ and its constant level and the conditions are usually better. I saw the chair lift mountain bike park too. Looks cool. Cheers!
  20. I thought Whitney's pass at 39 off was defining of the fine line between the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Pato font, 16 years old. He and pickos were amazing. I was stunned when Asher blew out the tail and entertained by Winter's celebration. Life is emotional and unpredictable. Jacinta is the most dominant skier in one event in the world. Freddy Krueger is almost able to compete in men's 4 and pushed Dodd to the limit. Freddy and although he didn't compete in the masters, Scot, are forever young.
  21. What are the feats, athleticism, sportsmanship that made you say Wow?
  22. I stuck with her. She's just too tough and too much of a champion.
  23. So did they do the right thing and next man up for Jon Travers?
