This is really devastating for our community. I grew up living on Lake McQueeney, called the Waterski Capital of Texas. Joe Mueller was a world champion and world record holding jumper from McQueeney in the 1950s. His brother Buzz started the McQueeney Ski Bees and their family opened Lake Breeze Ski Lodge. My mom waterskied in the 60s and I skied through the 80s and 90s. Over the years there have been 1000s of kids who grew up skiing on that lake, putting on ski shows and skiing in tournaments. All of that stands to be lost. At least lost for a few years while plans are made, funds are raised, designs are worked up and new dams for the lakes along the Guadalupe River are constructed. In the meantime we stand to lose a major source of recreation, property values, jobs, etc. Its a big hit to our local economy. The lakes will be drained by the end of September. Let's all hope it comes together and soon and we're back on the lake in a couple of years.
