  1. I wonder if this will impact any waterski events such as pro tournaments coming up soon or the US Nationals (due to volume of people). It may prevent some European skiers from easily getting to the US for events such as the Swiss Pro, the night jump at Bennett's or US Masters depending on the length of the travel ban and which countries are included...
  2. I'm saddened by this news. Gordon was a good friend and mentor. He sold me my lot at SMRR back in 2012. He became a friend to myself, my wife and our daughter. Fast forward a few years and when I made a career change to work in real estate, he was right there to give me recommendations and advise, always encouraging. We even had the pleasure of doing some deals together. I enjoyed hanging out with him in his office and shooting the breeze about trips to Mexico, flying and water skiing over the years - things we both enjoyed. Gordon was passionate about all of those topics and the conversations we shared enriched my life. Prayers for Barbara, Bobby, Katy and the rest of his family. May his spirit be flying.
  3. New listing at San Marcos River Ranch - 505 River Ranch Circle. Located on Lake 1 where you can train in all 3 events right off your dock. This is a beautiful lot with great views of SMRR ready to go to the right skier. Other listings at SMRR and Aquaplex are available too. Email me at travissellsproperty@gmail.com. Get your ski on! It's gonna be 77 degrees in Cent. Texas today!
  4. Texas Toothpick, 1960s - Designed by Joe Mueller, World Champion 1957 from Lake McQueeney
  5. Duh...still living...my fault for not reading carefully!
  6. @Horton, your knowledge is extensive so it makes me wonder why you didn't list Herb O'Brien and Pat Connelly as innovators. I never knew them but skied on their skis along with skis made by Denny Kidder and Roger Teeter. I know everyone built skis up in Washington state. Did Denny and Roger innovate while Herb and Pat Connelly mainly manufactured? Sincere question. I look forward to your insights.
  7. @Horton a dealership in L.A.??? Odd considering how little access there is to skiing in L.A. Buckle up and settle in for a long drive if you live there and want to ski.
  8. A skier intake form would be interesting. It could have questions such as gender, weight, height, ability, experience, goals, brand preference, binding preference, etc and then provide a couple of recommendations. Next level would be virtual concierge with advice on set up, accessories, etc. Make it easy, take the guesswork out of the equation, make each customer feel special.
  9. @Luzz how could I have forgotten San Gervasio?!?! Watching the webcasts of the Pro Am that place looks great!
  10. For a bucket list, I have to go big and go south, then back North... 1. Aqua ski in Tequequitengo 2. The ski site on Lake Chapala from the Worlds 2015 3. The lagoon at Acapulco 4. Ski Costa Rica 5. Miranda's in Chile 6. Stoney Park in Australia 7. Drepani Water Ski in Greece 8. Lacendau (spelling?) France...food, wine, skiing. Yes, please. 9. The site in England that consistently hosts jumpers posting huge jumps (name?) Thorpe? 10. Since it's a bucket list - back in time to Lake McQueeney in the 1980s when the lake was still smooth, the slalom course was straight and the ramp was in good shape. Back to where it all began!
  11. Check out these World Championships in Italy in 1977. Compare the number of spectators then to the most recent worlds...
  12. Thanks @dthate those were great days! Sometimes those wake jumps would be almost better than my ramp jumps! I definitely have the wrong build for jumping, just about the opposite of Freddy Krueger or Ryan Dodd but nothing has ever been as exciting and thrilling as jumping. It will forever be my favorite event! Can I say that on this 99% slalom website platform?
  13. @horton When y'all hosted the 1990 collegiate nationals on the Bayou we all hung out on the road side. Getting out of the water was a challenge! Mud, cypress stumps, etc. And I bet y'all cleaned it up pretty good for that tournament. I really liked skiing around the cypress trees in the bayou on that one side. Oh, that and the drive through daquari joints!
  14. @ForrestGump hahaha! We were doing that back in the 80s! And other generations before that. Naked night skiing was a right of passage! ? My grandfather bought one of the first houses on the island in the 60s. My mom skied in ski shows with Buzz. I did ski shows in the 80s and tournaments in the 80s and 90s before my career took me all over the US. I'm back now, started a second career in real estate. Let me know if you are around these parts. We'll hit the lake!
  15. @ForrestGump you and I must be the same person! Breaking glass all the way up river and back down again was my routine every day growing up at Lake Mcqueeney. We used to call the slalom course behind the island the "ego boost" course. I skied about a full pass better on that course than at Aquaplex or Frameswitch. Jumping was always an adventure too! But....it was the lifestyle that made it so fun. Loading up the boat with good friends and cute girls, skiing till exhaustion, getting nachos at the Ski Lodge. Life is so good like that!
  16. @Horton @TFIN thank you for doing these and please keep them up. In a world where a lot of our info comes from sources like Instagram your perspective and commentary is most appreciated!
  17. All 3 events look really different technique-wise on the cable compared to behind the boat. I wonder if any skiers have had cross over success between cable and towboat?
  18. Fast forward to 1983. Some serious 39.5 off action
  19. Unfortunately no sound but interesting to watch
  20. This was awesome to watch. Its so cool to see Bob and Wade working with today's skiers - blending the past with the present. Nice job @MarcusBrown!
  21. You touched on some great ones - Hazelwood vs Duvall in the 87 Worlds in England was epic. Watching Pickos score over 10,000 with one flip was amazing. I also would have been at Moomba when Thurlow jumped 202' to break the 200 barrier and would have liked to see Ricky McCormick do his tricks off the ramp like they used to do while competing with the likes of Grimdich and Lucky Lowe in all 3 events. Lastly, not too long ago, but I'd love to have been at the site when Freddy ski flew 312'.
  22. Strap up the sticks! Nothing like a jump set after driving the Porsche to your beautiful lake in the mountains.
