  1. @horton. I think you could be on to something with this idea. This would make promo owners want to ski at events and bring the boats. As many have stated the credits usually don’t even cover the cost of getting the boat to the site. I am pretty fortunate in this region, most of our sites comp your entry and at most sites in the SCR offer you a place to stay. But adding some fee for each tournament ride could certainly help with giving promo guys a reason to hustle.
  2. @horton. Agreed closed lakes in Florida is something they created and then want credit for pulling the most events. Outside of Florida I’d say the numbers are much closer. And I agree that the boat test should not be a fund raiser for USA waterski unless they are willing to do more for the big 3. I’d say the big 3 all have higher expectations for their products then reflected in the boat test.
  3. I think we are lucky the manufacturers are still involved in the promo program at all. Remember these tournament boats are less than 5% of the companies overall production. In our Ski and three event world wholesale is considered retail. Promo Boats are usually sold at dealer cost minus discounts or credits earned from pulling events. Everyone wants the boat a cheap as they can get it. Now that most of the companies have gone public. They look at one thing. The bottom dollar at the end of the year. The discount ski boat world Versus the individuals or families purchasing wakeboard and wake surf boats. And these customers want all the bells and whistles you can add to the boat. Production time is the same for a boat they make a heck of a lot of money on. As a promo boat owner for 20 years everyone wants the bottom dollar for the boats. And for the manufacturer what’s the real incentive. My numbers may not be exact. But it cost around 15k each year for each manufacture to sponsor AWSA not to mention the additional fund raiser for USA waterski known as the boat test. Where each new model cost X amount of dollars (I think $7500) and like another $1500 for each prop tested. I don’t know what the answer is but I know that we as an organization are lucky to still have them involved and as an organization need to more to support the companies that still support what we love.   4. @Luzz. You are doing a great job with these podcast. Way to promote the sport and show your passion for what we all do.
  5. Practice Scores count. Come on? Double panda for sure. That would put an end to a significant amount of tournament participation. Record scores should be weighted differently than Class C scores.
  6. Just had a lengthy conversation with Dawn Goode, who is overwhelmed and thankful for the support and positive comments about Dave from the waterski and snow ski communities. Reading some of these has brought a smile to her face when a reason to smile for her has been hard to find. She wanted me to let everyone know that Goode Skis will operate as normal. The two of them had plans in place in the event of such a tragedy. She wanted to assure everyone that the business is on solid ground and will continue to operate as normal. As you know Dave worked very hard to develop the new carbon core technology and production of the Revo Carbon Core, the Carbon Core 9970 and the Carbon Core XTR are in full swing as is the snow ski side of the house.
  7. Dave aside from having a magical mind to continue to innovate and move the sport forward was second to no one in the industrie. Aside from his skis he developed a vest that would allow people with back injuries to continue to ski. I was with him in Covington, Louisiana when he broke his ankle. That night a dinner he started drawing what is now known as the bubble buoy. He did not want anyone to suffer from a broken ankle and prevent them from skiing. His mind worked unlike most. Aside from that Dave was passionate about making everyone better. He would always watch and often video each and every skier on the water no matter the brand. Always trying to figure out how to make the ski perform better. He was a true fan of performance. I remember when Nate broke the record and Dave Goode interviewed him about the record. Nate was skiing on a D3. He loved skiing and loved pushing the limits. Dave and Dawn have supported the Nationals year after year. Those two loved handing out the medals and photographing every podium. Didn’t matter if you were 6 or 66 years old they were there to take the pics. He tirelessly documented every event he took part in with the famous Goode Video. “Dave Goode here with ————-. “ I will miss his voice, I will miss his passion for the sport we all love. Most importantly I will miss the man I called my friend. As his shirt said. Live the life you love!!!! Dave and Dawn did this everyday. And we are all better because Dave was part of this world and shares his dreams, thoughts and innovations with the rest of us. As always “Ski Goode”. As a driver who pulled Dave on occasion he would start each pass with “I love you” which some found odd. But he loved everyone who shared his same passion. Words I will miss “I love you too Dave”. Till we meet again Rip
  8. I’m not a driver. I’m a skier. I don’t want to be unable to sell these boats people complain about the price of now. And for the record. An automated boat driving system will likely feel like a steel cable down the lake
  9. Boats already exceeding 100k. And we keep adding cool features. They don’t get any easier to buy or sell is my point. Plenty of drivers that can keep it in the middle.

  11. That is the correct video. I am not a tech guy but I believe the original video sent to the iwsf was a high definition video which was converted to the you tube which was released. I also know that all of the senior judges at the site spent a lot of time reviewing the video to make the correct call. Then the video was sent to the committee which approves world records, which I believe consist of almost a dozen other judges (could be wrong on the number) and approved as called. I have seen the same committee use the high def video sent from Kelvin Kelm to deny a record in the past.

  13. I have not used this system but I have been working with another boat tracking system called Skipath. This is great technology for drivers who want to see how they are driving. This graph is not only useful to show if the driver is in tolerance, but allows you to study the movements of the boat in relation to where the skier is. Must have technology to improve your driving

  16. @ski6jones That’s definitely the key to getting better. Nothing better to let you know what you are doing. It’s guys like @LLUSA that take time to look at video and talk about things and seeks ways to improve. I have enjoyed many conversations with guys like Lyman, Greeny, Badal, Jojo seal and many others about driving. It’s always good to listen to these guys and talk about techniques and what they are thinking or trying to do and then watching the end results during a tournament. It’s like skiing, you have to really study it and pay attention to improve. Never leave an event without watching the end course to see how you were doing while in the tournament.

  18. I never really think about having the back of the boat move on purpose. I think more about moving the nose of the boat away ever so slightly. When the skier has cleared the second wake and is in the pre turn I am relaxed and trying to just sit and not move at all. As I feel the skier release I thumb away on the steering wheel opposite the skier hoping to bring the line tighter as the skier finishes the turn. Hoping I am slightly ahead of the skier finishing the turn
  19. Lots of things to think about @Jody_Seal was right on point with his comments. Other things to consider when pulling a skier. Right foot forward vs left foot forward. Knowing the prop rotation on the boat, which will determines which way the boat wants to go naturally. It’s important to feel the skier and be aware of where the skier is even though you can’t see them. Does the skier run and early aggressive line (if so the slight counter needs to be quicker) vs a skier that runs a later less aggressive line or turn in and out of the buoy. In this case the move would be less and a bit slower. Drivers that tend to be more reactive than proactive will find themselves chasing the skier thru the course. I think it is much more difficult to drove proactive with 2 hands on the wheel. Reaction is much slower and you lose the feel of the rudder and what action in needed for each skier Having the opportunity to pull many high end skiers the one consistent comment is they need the rope and the end of the turn. If you give them the boat as described then your chance of being loose at the buoy increases. That loose line results in a loss of speed for the skier exiting the buoy. It takes very subtle moves at the right time to stay ahead of the skier. Boat path is much more consistent if you are proactive and not reactive. Your job as a driver is to be invisible. In my opinion most problems start before the boat ever enters the course. It is important to be ready from the very beginning. One of the consistent things I see when watching end course is drivers getting pulled left as the skier pulls out for the gates. While the skier is in his/her glide the driver is then searching for the middle as approaching the entrance gates. This usually results in the boat sliding towards one ball as the skier is turning in for the gates. This is where the chase begins most of the time.
