  1. @adamhcaldwell I rewatched your videos and see how “tall” you stay at all times. Guess the answer to my question is that control of ski path is really the the trigger element in skier uprighting and maintenance of connection?
  2. ???? Not so sure. Without gravity acting on COM I think skiing would be impossible.
  3. Standing tall with lateral lean is maximizing the effect of gravity to leverage ski and hold on edge. Question: is softening or bending legs to lower COM a component of behind boat uprighting, ski flattening, and introduction of down course yaw?
  4. My favorite flow point yet. Tremendous admiration for both these guys. I am one of the thousands of fans that watched this story unfold and brings it brings back great memories. In the day I wonder what percent of the actual fan base actually skied on a course? We didn’t, but we did dream!
  5. Are those Double skis?
  6. Days of fun and excitement in my life came from these. He did it right.
  7. 1993 Stars and Stripe Mastercraft at Portland Boat Show. Nice Restoration. Ironic is that Sammy Duval was at the top of 3 event skiing and Eric Perez was a surfer that led the new generation of Skurfers, kneeboarders, and wakeboarders. Sort of a turning point in our sport. Oh by the way there were 10-12 skis at the show and a few pair of gloves.
  8. Interesting what you find at Boat shows today.
  9. Sport was built from the ground up, and we are trying to restore from the top down. I really think Marcus Brown and his mission for the past years is the best path for recovery. Marcus for President!
  10. An interesting poll would be: How much are you willing to spend on waterskiing each year? Splitting this out into Categories of age and family status would tell an interesting story. Young group is dealing with student loans, lifestyle, travel, cars, children, healthcare, sports, future education, retirement. Retired group is dealing with wealth preservation, declining physical activity, and someone to drive the boat. Competitive waterskiing will always exist but certainly has become more of a country club sport. I really don’t think country club sports have much place in the Olympics, but that’s just me. How will our sport look in 10 years? No help coming from boat manufactures, today they are all about business and price point models don’t fit well with plan. Made my first turns 50 years ago and have seen a lot, Just hope to still be making turns in 10 years!!! My favorite sport.
  11. Sure Path sure seems interesting solution. Drivers will need to be capable driving to tolerance or there will be lots of re-rides and unhappy skiers. I have feeling that drivers would be weeded out, leaving an elite group for the significant tournaments.
  12. How could we be remiss and not nominate Horton, a first ballot honoree for sure!
  13. Maybe a power rating of some sort would be idea to consider. In qualifying tournaments power rating is calculated by comparing skier score with average of field. Calculate by :: taking skier score and subtracting (total balls scored in division divided by # of Skiers) = power rating.
  14. Met Eddie at Crescent Bar Tournament in 1990. I drove 5 hours and didn’t know a soul. I noticed a friendly gathering and walked over. Eddie was getting his father ready to ski and leading his family in cheering him on. His kindness and loving spirit has remained a memory of mine all these years. Thinking of him today #livedwithclass
  15. It seems what we are talking about is: ENERGY from a boat -transferring force through rope/skier -to ski that creates hydrodynamic forces -that propels a skier through a specific path. For high level performance each must be optimized. I think the Adams and GUT do a terrific job of discussing the physical elements of efficient skiing ( rope connection, COM, arm/body rigidity, ski interface) They also explain well the concept of ideal timing and ski path. It all makes sense. In hind sight I’m rethinking coaching tips I have received in the past and what the instructor was really trying to help me with. For me 4-5 long months standing tall in front of a mirror and pretending to ski a path like a tether ball. Thank again @adamhcaldwell , @AdamCord
  16. @AdamCord @adamhcaldwell, you guys are class acts. Thanks for taking the risks and contributing your time and efforts. I’m sure you will sell that “Medium”
  17. If a tournament was to have unusually high scores for competitors across the board (compared to averages), what areas of standardization would be suspect. Opinions?
  18. As I recall my friend used a beer can. Height= length, dia = depth, pull tab w/o ring dft when he switched to Schnitz fin block. Actually Willard Collins bought and set one up for me. Was my first upscale ski
  19. @horton I’m working on a copper wrist bracelet, want in? Question, How can alternative fin shapes be somewhat immune to position, and adjustment of traditional fins be game changer if moved .005. Makes me think area might be part of explanation. Maybe new skis have been over finned?
  20. After reading everything, if the same thing happened to me I’d be thinking “what was I thinking” This being said - Several years ago the night before a family spring break dive trip I realized my passport was expired. I put everyone on the plane and waved good bye. A one day passport is available if you personally go to a regional center. Spent weekend finding flights, Made trip and salvaged vacation. Have always been thankful for the option but also realized that it was a “me” issue that got me there. Hope a trip to Nationals is in the future!
