  1. I've been using SurePath for about about 6 weeks and this system will absolutely 100% make me a better driver. The first time I used the system all of my tendencies were immediately exposed. Especially when I'm being taken at the pregates and gates.
  2. My ski partner and I recently bought one for our boat (2017 CC200). We only purchased the boat based equipment since we are splitting the cost of the base system with other members at our lake. James Timothy of SurePath has been great with shipping times and QA. Our unit arrived with a loose circuit board - probably due to shipping vibration whatever. Once we figured it out we popped it back in and were good. We use a hot spot from our cell phones - and not a SIM card (our base station is very close so a hot spot should work fine). We DID have a problem with not getting a lock for the system. GPS yes, but no communication with the base station. The system was spotty at best. Turns out that when we were plugging in the USB cable into the USB port the unit was not receiving enough power (dirty power). We were unaware that some USB ports are low power and only designed to interface with a stereo/Bluetooth while other USB ports have higher power. Unfortunately on our boat it was tough to tell what USB was what type of connection. Went out and bought a DC/USB adaptor (a cigarette lighter/USB adaptor), plugged it in and boom - the unit works great. Good power = the system works great. IMO SurePath has really helped us with our driving tendencies (good and bad).
  3. The stainless steel supports are fantastic if you keep the boat on a lift and don't plan to lower the top very often. Our marina is very protected so we don't often cover the boat - but if I want to cover the boat I can 1/2 ass cover the boat with the top up - it works good enough. If you need to lower the top on a regular basis to trailer the boat then buy a normal top.
  4. Sun protection is very important to me therefore I prefer a lower top. It comes down to whether you care that you can open or close the windshield without taking off the front supports. My bimini fits close to the floor and it takes 5 minutes to Tower Biminis is a great source - get the stainless steel supports. IMO straps look bad and whistle too much.
  5. Since it was winter it was easy for me to wait to ski. Take your doctors advice for sure. I WILL say that most doctors are going to scare the crap out of you to be careful - that's their job. I had both eyes done at the same time and I still remember signing the paperwork stating that one of the possible outcomes of Lasik was complete blindness. Very scary - but they have to say it.
  6. I had the surgery 15 years ago (disclaimer) but I remember having the surgery in the winter then laying off skiing for at least 3 months. The main danger was not allowing the cornea to properly heal and the edges to reattach themselves before the possibility of a crash and the edges separating. But since the surgery I've had numerous eye peeling crashes with no side effects. Outside of marrying my wife or having kids having Lasik was one of the best life decisions I've ever made.
  7. I'm getting more exercise therefore I figure I can drink more. Currently perfecting my Mexican Martini recipe.
  8. I would not only listen to the gate episode again but also revisit the other episodes especially the one about adverse conditions. Pure skiing gold IMO.
  9. The podcast is definitely available on Spotify.
  10. Simple, quiet body with minimal movement. Love this video.
  11. It has to be winter when people are excited about redoing this boat. I'm guessing that 90% of the people on this forum neither have the capability and most importantly the TIME to redo a boat that was so severely damaged and missing most of the parts (I know I don't have time to do this). I was one of the guys who had their boat totaled at Aquaplex last June. I had a beautiful 2015 200 Tournament Team boat with a 6 litre and about 380 hours. I'll bet that boat had almost every available option including seat heaters (love those)! Almost all the boats that went down at Aquaplex were either highly optioned or very new - one Malibu was a whopping 7 days old. The insurance company totaled the thing and the boat was resold to a really nice kid in his 20's who skied collegiate. He reached out to me and I was able to ship him (at his cost) the front/rear/jump seats. For sure I didn't need them. Turns out that 2 of his buddies also bought some of the other Aquaplex boats and are redoing them. Everyone is an engineer or mechanic of some sort. Lots of time of their hands. From what I've heard these guys are spending crazy time going through all the electrical systems/engine/systems and either meticulously cleaning and/or replacing parts as they go. And no trailer - I kept it and he has to go buy one. Yes, sometime in the end they'll have a skiable boat for maybe 25-35k but at what true cost? AND remember that my old boat and also the boat in this thread will ALWAYS have a salvaged title. I have great respect for this kid and what he is trying to do, however, that boat will be tough sell to anyone else except close friends or family. Nope - Not for me.
  12. When it came time to replace my lift I was conflicted about spending money on a hydraulic lift. The price was almost double the price compared to a traditional cable/vertical lift. Some of the best money I've ever spent. No more overhead cables. no more watching your kids to make sure they didn't lose fingers, no more grease dripping onto the boat etc.
  13. Stop it from happening in the first place. After using it, hang it to dry (inside-out since you have just peeled it off), after 1-2 days turn it right-side and let it dry. I always use a large hanger for maximum air circulation.
  14. I watched her ski at Aquaplex during regionals and the only word I could think of was "power". She flat out gets it done.
  15. The C75 has broken me out of my 2-year skiing slump/funk and has helped me regain my skiing confidence. I NEVER feel like I’m out of a pass. Crazy stable even when ridden hard (this is when the ski really shines). Sometimes coming out of a turn I find myself saying “Hell Yeah!”. Love this ski.
  16. I used FM boots for several years including the EVO and it's predecesor the E-series. FM is a good company and while they generally make good products, at times it was very difficult to find parts and get service on their bindings. About three years ago I moved to a HO hardshell front and a Reflex R-style back. I made the transition almost seamlessly by using a high liner and not using the low-cut R-Style liner (which in my opinion are not well constructed anyway). Using the high liner still gives me the "feel" on my leg that a high rear boot would give me. I'm assuming that you are aware the HO and the Reflex and the Jon Travers front hardshell are basically the same systems albeit with some minor differences. PM me if you need more info.
  17. Over the years I have purchased boats from Mississippi, Tennessee, and Illinois ( I live in Austin). All promo boats. Yes, the 3 event world is very small. IMO if someone screws someone that knowledge will quickly get back into the ski world. Maybe not overtly; but - news will spread. Spend the money on a plane ticket, go see the boat in person, talk to the seller, then figure out the shipping later. Just peace of mind. My .02.
  18. Sorry - I should have mentioned in my original post that the Denali comes with both the flat wing and the S wing.
  19. For people that have tried the C75 what is your preference? - the flat wing OR the S wing? Thanks.
  20. For years I resisted buying a Goode out of sheer principle. Too much money, to fragile whatever. All I know is I've dock started a lot of 38 + skiers (twice at nationals) and Goode is extremely well represented. I have an 6 year old XT that I've been trying to replace forever and so far nothing has stuck. Well........I did get that email from Denali last week asking for a final payment :)
  21. Another reason to hate white - over time it looks dirty and cruddy.
  22. Well made gloves, however, they are thin. I need some more padding between my hands and the handle.
  23. I'm a Boy Scout leader. As many people probably know BSA covered up a lot of problems in the 60's and 70's. IMO by BSA not immediately being open and honest about what happened prevented people from quickly reacting and learning from past mistakes. On one hand I don't want to know what Nate did - it almost feels like knowing would only create more salacious gossip. However, as the parent of three kids and as a youth leader (not just in Boy Scouts), if I was given more specific guidance from SafeSport or AWSA etc. I would feel much better about my contact with young people. And to be clear - not just about Nate but all the people in the list John posted. How many times have we all been in a boat by ourselves with a young person who is not our own kid? How many times have we been in the water with a young person holding them trying to get them up for on a ski for the first time? Just thinking about those situations sometimes scares me. After much denial BSA finally reacted about 10 years ago and created a fantastic training program called "Youth Protection Training" (YPT). As BSA leaders we are required to recertify our YPT training every two years and NEVER be in a situation where we are alone with someone under the age of 18 - ALWAYS have another adult present when we are with a minor. This training is public and you do not have to be a member of BSA to take it (PM me and I'll send you a link). Again - I'm conflicted about how much information I want to know. BUT if by carefully releasing more info AND that information would help all of us protect our kids I would fully support the effort.
  24. I've solved this (mostly) by every time I set down at either end I always rotate the handle 2-3-4 times. If you do it each time it seems to help.
