  1. Sounds like a lot of effort just to avoid getting 1/2 buoy...didn't know 1/4 buoys were so much better...but I'll look into jump skis...LOL
  2. Very interesting subject as I also hoped for the "6 buoy jump" moving to 32mph. My experience is not directly relevant to @JackQ because I ski at a much lower level. As @Jcamp said, I had planned to continue to ski at 34mph (at least in practice) to improve my chances at the 6-buoy jump at 32mph. Knee surgery delayed my typical spring skiing by staying at 30mph for a while and eventually just settling at 32mph. For reference, the last few years I was a 2-4 @32-34mph. A few more years back I could ski into 35off on good days. So, would I now be able to ski into 38off (on good days) or 2-4 @35, or neither? The answer so far is neither. However, with the the 32mph speed, I was able to run 32off this summer and 1-2@35. So depending on the reference point, I did gain some buoys over my recent 34mph scores, but not the target "6 buoy jump". What is more depressing is the fact that the few times I would try a 34 mph pass, it would feel like I never skied that speed. Even 22off was a big struggle. Oh, well...

    CG fin

Same experience as @Martin. 66"D3 EVO. My "best settings: factory fin DFT - 0.81; CG fin DFT - 0.76
  4. @Chef23, sorry @Than_Bogan's C75 is not a large. Therefore, it really should be tested by a 145lb skier...If you agree, I know a little guy...
  5. Nice post @"Keith Menard" ...great to meet you and your family. Yes, it was (as always) a great time.
  6. Sincere condolences to @Horton and family. May your memories be the source of inspiration and love.
  7. Now that I have learned stats (and pole jumping) from @Than, I feel I can comment here...LOL. I should disclose that I was never a fan the original tread about the "unusual scores" in Spain. I had a similar "bad taste" around the same time, about another tread on "unusual" high scores at an amateur tournament site in NJ. My discomfort with those was the innuendo that some type of "fraud" was responsible for the high scores. I have no idea if any "fraud" was present (narrow course, slow boat, bad boat path, lenient judges, whatever), so personally, I would not bring it up without some proof. Conversely, I agree with @Horton that "questions should be asked" and answered. My comment on this analyses is not whether it is perfect or flawed. Looks like a good compilation of available data. (as a less nerdy R&D engineer now that I am old, I still love "data"). My view is that this does not increase the potential justification to ask whatever questions might be legit about the Spain tournament. It was a one tournament situation. I suspect that if no answers were given to date, this will not provide any further impetus. @Horton says "it appears that the Seseña event was by the book this year". Does "by the book" mean that no unexpected 41's were run this year? Or do we have some new relevant information about how it was run last year? What if one looked at the graph and asked about the lack of 41's in AUS and AUT? Wide course, fast boat, "too good" boat path, over zealous judges, whatever). Bottom line, great information compiled and presented but, in my opinion, not changing the need (or lack thereof) for questions about Spain 2018.
  8. @"Pat M", you don't need a new ski, you're already too good...great to see you this weekend. Nice skiing as always. Hope you like your new "toy".
  9. Make sure all the "diamond" shaped sections of the mainline that hook around the boat guides PVC sections, are all in place properly. Not sure what else would cause it to not be straight. I am assuming your not talking about "not straight" as in bowed by the wind or current.
  10. At the risk of sounding naive, ignorant or just not capable of discerning the subtleties of deep shortline, this is as fundamentally sound, controlled and just "beautiful" skiing as anything I have seen. 39 and the 3@41 like his opening pass. Am I wrong? WOW @AdamCord, awesome!!!
  11. If the sheer weight of "numbers" help, let me add to that...my boys were a little younger, but the experiences were phenomenal then, and the friendships that have lasted for 15 years, priceless. Not once did they have a less than awesome experience with everyone involved -the other kids, parents, officials, all. Best wishes!
  12. @S1Pitts, great, thanks! PerfectPass or ZeroOff?
  13. My ski buddy with ZBox single GPS puck sent me this letter (below) from PerfectPass yesterday. We have noticed these symptoms (too long for GPS to "lock") in his boat recently. I have a dual puck ZeroOff system (2013 Prostar 197), and have not noticed any differences in mine. Has anyone noticed any impacts on a ZO system? I presume the Garmin pucks are the same as my friend's ZBox. Thank you. May 2019 Re: Garmin GPS Units Slower to Lock It became apparent in April of this year that the Garmin 5 Hz GPS units in circulation are taking longer to “lock” after being powered up than in previous years. Initial delay to lock on a new boating day will take one or two minutes, but after key off & back on they normally take up to 38 seconds. In previous years, you may have noticed that after a brief key off the GPS would lock faster than the current time of 38 seconds +/-. Garmin has advised us that the satellite system changes require new “Almanac Data” updates to allow for faster starts and this updating is not happening automatically on older versions. For most PerfectPass customers, a start time of 38 seconds or less is more than adequate and is not an issue that would affect their use of the product. For any customer that performs a lot of key offs in-between passes or sets and finds the re-lock time of 38 seconds +/- too slow there is a solution. Garmin has recently produced a new V4.2 software version which PerfectPass has acquired which solves this issue and has other enhancements as well. Your GPS Puck can be updated to this version which will increase the Lock Speed. The Puck can be mailed to PerfectPass for this update now or at the end of the season. The update cost is free, only return mailing charges will apply.
  14. @SkiJay , Wow! Didn't mean to ask for such detailed explanation, but thank you very much! (Apologies for not having read your book...) Let's see if my "translation" gets it right. LE has foremost impact on yaw/tip engagement...and some smear... DFT impacts mostly "smear"... FD impacts smear, but significantly more than DFT... Therefore, your comment in the other tread referred to isolating tuning parameters to address what the skier feels is, or is not, happening. I assumed you and @AdamCord agree on these fundamentals and that's why I asked if the different shapes/fluid dynamic characteristics of the WF and CG fins was what accounted for the two different thoughts on those treads. In other words, my "take" is that the RELATIVE impact of each parameter in these two fin designs is what led to those seemingly different pieces of advice...not a difference of opinion on the fundamentals of the impact of each parameter on ski behavior. Again, thank you very much!
  15. Curious about two seemingly divergent perspectives on fin dynamics. From @AdamCord (May 6) "@Dano leading edge position doesn’t matter..." From @SkiJay (May 19) "DFT isn't a measurement I worry much about. I'm more focused on how DFT affects the fin's leading edge location...". Do these opinions reflect inherent properties of your respective fins (CG, WT)? Or, do they reflect your own generic perspective/understanding on ski/fin interaction and dynamics? I could speculate, but you both know best. Thanks

  17. How is my friend Mr. @lpskier? I don't know how I missed this tread. Are you saying I am now the last standing Fogman user? What triggered the move? Have you released yet? What's it like releasing with feet separate? After 15 years I have no idea what that would feel like. Good luck wherever you end up!
  18. This is terrible news...many memories in MA and NY over the years. RIP good man!
  19. I have a 2013 197 WT (last year of the model). I had a Malibu LXi previously and I did notice a "bump at 22off, more so at 32mph than at 34. I no longer notice it. So the reality is it must be there (since I noticed it initially), but unlikely it is terrible, as it no longer bothers me. I can't speak for 15 off. The boat itself, in my opinion, is absolutely beautiful and a pleasure to drive. Good luck with your choice. And I'm ready to give my friend @Chef23 a pull when he is ready...haha
  20. @Tryathlete, if a 197WT is of interest, a good friend has a 2013 absolutely mint, 160 hours. I can provide contact if interested
  21. My towing is mostly a 1 mile trip to/from boat ramp Spring and Fall. In 2010 I used my then, Honda Ridgeline (5000 lb rating) to tow my then, LXI, from NC to MA (700 miles). In 2015, I used my Touareg TDI (7700 lb rating) to tow my Prostar 197 from VA to MA (500 miles). Both were more than up to the task. I have a small camper (4000 ?). The TDI unquestionably more competent for that.
  22. @Ed_Johnson, thank you. Where do I go for music lessons? Ha
  23. @mbabiash, recovering from knee surgery, so this is hoping the knee understands I'm serious about skiing again and cooperates...haha. I have a CG fin yet to mount on a 2018 EVO. I suspect we ski at similar levels, so I am particularly curious about your experience. You mentioned the CG has a"ton of drag" (a negative?) and "tracks like no other" (a positive?). Is the drag relative to the original D3 fin or to the Whisperfin? On the tracking, what do you mean or feel is "too much" for you? Thank you.
  24. Me - RH/RF: LFF Son #1 - LH/LF: LFF Son #2 - RH/RF: RFF Nice, easy correlation at my house...haha
  25. Email the administrator. Similar situation a couple of years ago selling high demand jump skis...emailed the administrator after one month and no inquiries...don't recall the exact reason for the problem, but there were over 25 or 30 inquiries.
