  1. I think what a great place for the baby! (p.s. The tower promptly came off after buying the boat to allow room for the much more useful bimini)
  2. I agree with @foxriverat, call them for sure! If you still can't afford it, drive by hand for the rest of this season and make an investment next spring. You won't regret spending the extra to buy the new, right system for your boat. Plus they are amazing to deal with even once you buy it. Their customer service is second to none.
  3. First year with mine. I like them. My mediums fit pretty well the same as my straight line mediums did. Not quite as comfortable as the wrist strap sits right on my wrist bone where as the SL sat a little higher. Overall great gloves
  4. @Ed_Johnson what did you think of them both on the vapor?
  5. @Horton While I don't know much about either, I'm sure there are many discussions on the differences and similarities (if there are any) of both franchises. May the force live long and prosper!
  6. @jayski Not at all what I was implying. I was saying that the way @SkiJay developed his system of dialing in your ski does not need any specific tools (i.e. 8" callipers) and can be done, more or less by following a set formula. Many average Joe's would find this easier than getting measurements down to the .xxx".
  7. DISCLAIMER: This is not a "which one is better" I have been watching the many reviews and discussion surrounding these two fins for a while now and I believe that both have been on the market long enough to be able to offer some valid comparisons. On a personal note, I am curious about buying one of these fins, as are many others I would presume. To avoid reading through many different threads and comparing information, I thought it might be nice to keep it all in one spot. Both fins seem to have excellent support directly from their creators right here on this site which is awesome! General consensus seems to be that both are an improvement over stock fins. Both fins should fit on pretty well every brand of ski. As I have not tried the fins personally, I can only go off of what others and the developers themselves are saying. Whisper fin seems to be a great choice for people not as comfortable with tuning their own skis but want to be able to dial their ski in accurately and consistently. Possibly better for skiers -28 and longer? CG Fin is $100 cheaper and is specific to stance. If you are going to claim one to be better than another, please offer your explanation as to why.
  8. Ours was on a hard(ish) bottom using 5 or 6 cinder blocks on either end. We would pull it tight and it would look straight but within minutes it would have a big curve again. What I figure was happening is when we pulled it tight and set the anchor down (only in about 8-10 feet of water) the mainline had enough tension to drag the anchors back, almost like an elastic. What I ended up doing was leaving the cinder block anchors in but installing screw anchors behind the cinder blocks. We then pulled it tight and attached the cinder blocks to the screw anchors. Straight as an arrow ever sense (except in crosswind). Simplified diagram: S--C------mainline-----C--S (S= screw anchor, C= cinder blocks) Basically the screw anchors just keep the cinder blocks from pulling back in but the cinder blocks still bear most of the weight.
  9. I have a friend who is wanting to get back into skiing and is looking for a 68" HO ski. He's not a course skier so he doesn't need top of the line but something a few years old for 200-300 would probably be a good fit. Pm me if you have something kicking around!
  10. @ToddF mine will idle at higher rpms sometimes (up around 11-1200). When I shut the boat off and turn it off it will go back to a lower rpm. (usually somewhere between 600 and 800). So I guess what you say is true in my case. No consistent idle
  11. My 97 malibu echelon lx with black scorpion efi is surging at all rpms. You bring it up to speed and sometimes it feels like it's underpowered then a few seconds later it will take off to more where it feels like it should be (both in terms of rpm and speed) then it will slow back down and keep going back and forth. The intervals are not regular and it may go up by 100 rpm one time then 300 the next then 50, etc. No rhyme or reason. Does this sound like a tps? Doesn't seem like it's a transmission slipping or lack of fuel as it doesn't sputter or hesitate. When it decides to increase, it goes, no hesitation. Does this with PP on and off. Any help much appreciated. New to us boat and I want to ski!
  12. @daryl that was my original plan actually! I was just afraid that without something spacing the "two" lines (the line going up through the pulley and the other one coming back down to the weight) they would twist together. Figured the 2" that the pulley is wide was enough the help prevent that. Also, the stainless cable would help to avoid tangling as well as it's stiffer than the regular 1/4" poly rope.
  13. Hi, we have a new to us 97 Echelon and the "wooden" helm face plate is all cracked and the wooden steering wheel is splitting. Just wondering where I could buy a new faceplate for my guage layout and what type of steering wheel connection this boat has?
  14. @BraceMaker They've held up for 2+ years but I always have a few in the boat on standby. I purposely made everything out of cheap, easily replaceable in case it needed to be replaced quickly. So far the weak link is the pullies. Going forward I plan on replacing them annually as they are rusting. The swivel is pulling through the body of the pulley. At 80 cents a piece you only have to lose a few buoys in the run of a year to pay for an entire set of pullies shipped to your door!
  15. A few years ago I began researching the best way to install a permanent course in the creek behind my house which is subject to about a foot of tide everyday. Although it is freshwater it is close enough to the bay where the river dumps into the ocean that when the ocean is at high tide the river backs up. I couldn't find much information on how to best set up the buoys so they wouldn't be under water at high tide and floating loose at low tide. After some research and talking to some people I devised a system that I have had a lot of luck with. When I was getting ready to set up some new buoy lines I figured I'd take a video to show our set up to help anyone else who's looking to do the same.
  16. I've found this to be the best way. He swings when we take off and crash. If we whip at one end he goes side to side which he loves. I'm training him now to catch the handle in the event that I pop it. Only 3 black eyes so far! The person before me must have had a baby too because when I bought the boat it came with the built in baby swing bar. Or at least I think that's what it's for. Can't imagine another legitimate reason to keep that goofy looking thing on a ski boat. All joking aside, I'm interested in hearing people's solutions too! Pictures people!
  17. Boat is in great shape, especially for it's age! Located in NB, Canada. Within 1.5 hours of the Maine border. -Has a 5.8L PCM GT40 engine,315 hp fuel injected (Ford 351W) -Under 500 hours -Fresh water boat -Newer transmission (installed at around 400 hours) -Newer sunbrella cover and custom bimini top, great for hot sunny days -Perfectpass Star GAZER 3 event GPS speed control -trailer in good condition, axle replaced in 2017 with new surge brakes, actuator, and tongue jack -packing was just redone last summer along with a transmission flush Well cared for and regular maintenance always done. Interior is in good condition. Back seat was reupholstered last year. There are a few nicks in the upholstery but no need to replace anything. Gelcoat is pretty much flawless, no fading or haze to the finish, gold sparkle trim still shines. **Marine survey completed in 2017 valued the boat at $15,000 CAD. This was before over $1,700 invested in rebuilding the trailer Asking $8000 USD
  18. Call perfect pass. Their customer service is amazing. They talked me through a very similar situation right out on the lake. Stayed on the line for at least half and hour with me as I adjusted numbers, took off, slowed down, stopped, changed numbers, and so on. Great company!
  19. We use 2L pop bottles (soda bottles will do in a pinch) on a 6" or so piece of rope. Sometimes you will need to unscrew the cap slightly to let the desired amount of water in. Gets it close enough.
  20. I don't really see that much of a difference between the brand new boats with ZO and the older (late 90's/early 00's) with an upgrades stargazer Zbox system. Read reviews on bubble butt nautiques or diamond hull responses and I think you'll discover most people love the wakes and say they compare very closely to that of new boats. Add the PP Zbox in and isn't it a close enough set up for 95% of people to train on? After all, how many people are skiing 41 and getting paid to do this. Yes, it's an obsession for most (myself included) but it boils down to a hobby.

  22. @Moffattra probably the same boat! It was for sale about 4 years ago. Not getting used so it's being resold.
  23. @Moffattra ok, thanks. Yeah, the reason the magnum is a plus for us is that there are hardly any ski boats in our areas and thus no dealers or repair facilities so getting parts can be tricky. With a mercruiser engine, you can get parts from nearly anywhere. Thanks for your thoughts. It does seem to be a reasonable price and an upgrade from our current boat.
