1994 Tige 2002 FSLM?

Anyone know anything about this boat year and model? Does it ski well? Wood stringers?

 

Seems like it would be a good combination of good slalom wakes plus room for the family. Oh yeah, and the price is good too.

For the day, they were THE best slalom boat for OB and in the 1994 WSM Boat Buyer Guide (when the guide was actually a guide) it beats out the closed bow 94 MC 190 and SN 196 in the slalom category especially at longer lines and slower speeds and matches them otherwise. Wood stringers ....yes. Other wood ...yes like the floor and probably seat backs/bottoms. This is the biggest thing to look out for with wood stringers. Engine mounts, pylon mounts, also check for soft floor and so on. I had a 87 Supra that needed work in this area after many yrs of use. Can check the mounts by putting a wrench to them. If all is good with the wood and the engine checks out, it's a steal at that price. Your getting modern looking boat lines, a slalom specialist boat and an OB. Also, they incorporated a deep V up front so it should be a great ruff water boat (unlike the teeth jaring MC)

Had one back in the day. This boat was known for the best slalom wake, and probably still

has a great wake compared to todays boats. Probably carburated Merc engine which can be hard to start on cold days. Boat looks like it was cared after. I owned three Tige's in the past and can't say anything bad about them.

I may be wrong her but they did not pull tournaments for a good chunk of time because they incorporated a movable wake changing plate. Later they moterized it and called it TAPS. Couldnt get AWSA approval with that device. So not widely skied. If it has the plate, that would be another plus as you could change it to your liking depending on what skiing you do.

I owned a Tige about six years, and I still think it had the flatest, softest wakes ever. Good wakes most slow speeds. So from that point of view it is a great boat and you can't go wrong with it as a slalom puller.

 

As with any boat of this age, I would be really check over the structural integrity of the boat. My windshield was showing more separation every year and I was thinking it was bowing out, but could just be the natural settling of the boat.

 

That one looks in real good condition given the age.

I ski with a friend that had one; his brother still has it. The movable wake plate didn't work very well. It causes a very hard wake.

 

The previous static model was much better.

 

If skiers are given an option between that boat and my '93 MC,,,they all choose my MC. All ages at all lengths and speeds.

I have a 1995 Tige 2000SLM (closed bow). Most of the comments above I agree 100%. The TAPS didn't come out till 1995 and wasn't put into all the boat until 1996 (that one shouldn't have an adjustable plate). These boats will ride rough when choppy. Wood stringers and floors, like Wish said, check for soft spots. We keep our hull dry and have never had an issue (bought w/ 400 hours now has 850 hours). The bow is sloped down much like older Centurions & the 197, you will take water over the bow, beginner drivers will take more water over the bow. The freeboard is very low too. We re-propped to a ACME 515, you will be surprised how much happier you will be with the carbed 350 Merc. It drives and handles like a Ferrari on the water.

 

The only wake I have skied behind at 15' off that I like better is the S/N 196. There is a rooster tail at 22'. It diminishes quite a bit at 36 mph, and with a 1/2 tank of gas. Boat was not AWSA approved, not sure why.

 

Its tracking thru the course is ok, it has a loaded rudder which helps a lot, but with a aggressive skier you will feel the back moving around more than some of the heavier newer boats.

 

Not sure how many hours the boat has, but I bought our 5 years ago for $8k w/400 hours, and in much better condition.
