Baller gregy Posted November 14, 2015 Baller Share Posted November 14, 2015 My rear leg has about a gallon of water after every deep water start. Its a Camaro Blacktec. Anyone else having this problem? Maybe my puny legs. I was think of using a thicker neoprene wrap over it. Luckily our lake has enough setup so I can dump the water and readjust. Baller rockdog Posted November 14, 2015 Baller Share Posted November 14, 2015 Fashion a strap around there like on a barefoot suit. Velcro would do the job.
Baller oldjeep Posted November 14, 2015 Baller Share Posted November 14, 2015 Better wetsuit? Even with my chicken legs I've never had water come into my cheapo overtons gladiator shorty.
Baller gregy Posted November 14, 2015 Author Baller Share Posted November 14, 2015 The Camaro material is so stretchy very comfortable but I guess this a negative side effect. I've had other brands shorties that were pretty much worthless.
Baller baja Posted November 14, 2015 Baller Share Posted November 14, 2015 Try a smaller size. I'm 6'3" and 170 lbs. with chicken legs. I have the BlackTec full and shorty in Large. The size chart indicates XL or XXL for everything other than weight. As you mentioned they are very stretchy so try the next smaller size. Baller dchristman Posted November 14, 2015 Baller Share Posted November 14, 2015 Try slower pull-outs. I used to like to get ripped out of the water as fast as possible and suffered from BWS (ballooning wet-suit syndrome). I have found in the past year that slower pullouts reduce the BWS effect and reduces the need for shorts adjustment before entering the course. I do have a Camaro Titanium shorty and haven't had a problem with it ballooning.

Baller gregy Posted November 14, 2015 Author Baller Share Posted November 14, 2015 @OTF Northerners would probably be laughing at us what we consider Wetsuit weather. I'll probably be going to a full suit this soon.
Baller Lars Posted November 14, 2015 Baller Share Posted November 14, 2015 Had this happen as well, I'm most likely to not get up with a shorty. I find if I kind of squeeze my knees together as I get up it helps avoid the issue.
Members OTF
@gregy I had that issue with the rear leg of my full suit, only below the calf but still irritating so I quit wearing one. Baller Ed_Johnson Posted November 14, 2015 Baller Share Posted November 14, 2015 I've had the exact same problem with more than one shorty, including Camaro...The cure is to make a 2" Velcro Strap to tighten around the lower part and the problem is solved. Baller mwetskier Posted November 15, 2015 Baller Share Posted November 15, 2015 back in the day when shorties were more common at tournaments i saw many where the owner had punched a series of small vent holes at the back of the legs a couple of inches above the bottom edge. the edge would get ballooned out on a start and fill with water but as soon as the upper leg was out of the water the elastic nature of the wetsuit material would quickly force the trapped water back out the vent holes. i never tried it but i saw so many of them i know it must have been effective. Baller ALPJr Posted November 15, 2015 Baller Share Posted November 15, 2015 Be nice if O'Neill would bring back the 3/4 leg BLP Assault with glued and taped seams. Warm, flexible and nearly dry in your core.
Baller SkiRV Posted November 16, 2015 Baller Share Posted November 16, 2015 I just listed a 3/4 lenght Assault and a Throttle on ski-it-again a couple of days ago, if you wear an XL
Baller foxriverat Posted November 16, 2015 Baller Share Posted November 16, 2015 I ditched my shorty after buying a heater top. Once its to cold for that and a pair of shorts. I put on my full suit.
Baller A_B Posted November 16, 2015 Baller Share Posted November 16, 2015 As simple or funny as it sounds, you need to stop the parachute effect while coming out. A friend was using new ski trunks this year and getting the water bucketing, and it ended up straining his piriformis muscle (tiny muscle in your butt and can impact sciatic nerves) and it impacted his walking and standing. He had to stop skiing and is on rehab. Once you mess this little muscle up, it is a long recovery.
