Baller Interjon Posted October 6, 2022 Baller Share Posted October 6, 2022 I am considering a Nautique 196 (2003) with the PCM 5.0 (Pro Sport). How is the pull, enough power? Thanks in advance.
Baller 2Valve Posted October 6, 2022 Baller Share Posted October 6, 2022 I got pulled by one years ago. It had no problem yanking me up. 275hp if memory serves. My 2002 PCM based 350 Chevy is 315 or 330hp.
Baller Keith_Menard Posted October 6, 2022 Baller Share Posted October 6, 2022 I came across this as I was curious if it was the chevy 305 basically....and it is (https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/forum/nautique-topics/general-nautique-discussion/17559-pcm-5-0-pro-sport) That motor was an anchor in vehicles can't imagine it would be much better in a boat. Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted October 6, 2022 Baller_ Share Posted October 6, 2022 Actually the little 305 is a good little work horse if your not needing 36mph or short setup. given the gear ratio weight of the boat it remains the same hp and torque to pull a given skier at a given speed whether or not you have 500 hp or 285 available. and yes that little 305 "vortec" can be converted to dbw and zo utilized. doing one now.. Baller Sethro Posted October 6, 2022 Baller Share Posted October 6, 2022 Many years ago I skied behind one in our 2000’ long lake. One end has slightly shorter setup, and it had zero problems with 34mph pulling me at about 230 pounds. It’s certainly not as desirable, but plenty strong. Baller Ski2000 Posted October 6, 2022 Baller Share Posted October 6, 2022 I’ve had one for a few years. The PP took some dialing in and it was basically drop the hammer on everyone out of the hole.It was easy running and never gave me any trouble though.Really love the 409 that we dropped in last winter though.
