@ReiderI have a Sunsetter LXI with LS1 corvette engine. We have a family of 5 and we all ski it except my wife (boat driver). The LS engine keeps the weight down and super easy to winterize. It's really good on gas but does require premium. My ski buddy has an 05 Response LXI - i ski that regularly as well and they ski really close. If you have any direct questions feel free to DM me.
I had outboards before my Malibu DD. Prop is a big deal. Go with a 3 blade that will put you at least 5500 rpm with just you in the boat. And also check how high the outboard is set on the transom. Most boats have that wrong.
I would suggest skiing whatever you look at before buying, but for I/O you can check into Stingray b/c they have a decent hull design on some of the 18-20 footers. None of them are going to ski like a direct drive. If you can up your budget to 20k you could find a Sunsetter LXI like I have and it will be a great family boat.
I use an inversion table and had an MRI in 2012 - it helps me a lot when I do use it, in fact it was the ticket for me getting over sciatica back then. I find that kettle ball squats help me a lot to keep that area tight.
I do everything myself. In the last few years I've replaced all the fuel lines, pulled the injectors for cleaning and changed the alternator and plug wires. Plug wires on my engine was a PIA. I typically do the fuel filter, spark plugs, tranny fluid and impeller every 2-3 years. I think 1x per years is overkill on those.
Oil every 50-75 hours
i agree on the weigh - i dropped 30 lbs in 2021 and my ski really came alive.
I personally do pushups, curls, kettle balls, cycling, and various captains of crush grippers. I only do the grippers in the off season though.
I don't think the TXI has been around more than 10 years. I love my Malibu, but the best boat I've skied behind is a 2018 Prostar. They are all really good in my opinion.
I have ZBox on my Malibu SSLXi and so does my ski partner on his 05 RLXi - I think it's close enough for 15-28 off skiers that I ski with regularly. I can tell if I change the letter, so ZBox does work. I'll have to put a guy that can run into 38 off behind my boat this summer and get his thoughts. I really like PerfectPass 9.3 with the ZBox much better than classic.
Welcome! I personally vote Union b/c you can ski it slower and learn technique. Will always be a good ski to keep for others to use. I have a Theory which was the predecessor and it skis really well. If you say the combo ski was too small for you, likely the senate will be too small unless you get a 69". It would help to know your weight and how fast you are skiing.
open to Aluminum Frame too - That is what I use on my ski. also would consider Front Vector XL (Aluminum Plate)ARTP (Aluminum Plate)XL RTP (Aluminum Plate)
