  1. It was 2° with wind chill yesterday. A few Legos, a 6 penny nail and some Mason string gave us some hope for a quick spring.
  2. The natives were getting restless. At least the ice was smooth.
  3. It's been so cold the last few days here in Ohio we added another 1.5" since the 5th....up to 8.5 now....
  4. It's winter.....I hate winter....we have 7" of ice in the middle of the river. How much do you have?
  5. Both? I think everybody has an optimum strength to weight ratio. If I had to choose one or the other based on myself, to I would say strength hands down as I'm 150lbs soaking wet. Lighter would not give me anymore advantage.
  6. the number of exact x-y coordinate points on the slalom course to successfully run 45 off
  7. most of my winters consist of home projects and wood working. Have been slowly putting my shop together over the last several years. i have some modern equipment but I really like the older nostalgic machines. Great conversation pieces, but also completely functional and built like tanks. Last month I picked up a rare 1945ish Moak Machinery 6" jointer from my father in law and restored it. Still had the original motor and all. Next on my list is a vintage planer.
  8. @jercrane I know they are rare but a Malibu FXi would be a great compromise. DD version of the VTX, good freeboard for rough water and seating for 10. I owned one for about 3 years before selling. The couple that bought it from me is selling. It's was listed on ski it again. Scratch that....just found out it was sold.
  9. Great to see another startup collegiate ski team. You guys/gals are doing what I wish I would have done in college. We're in ohio, but unfortunately on a river and about 3.5hrs away Best of luck!
  10. Prayers from Ohio....keep fighting. Hope is a very powerful thing.
  11. Very little course time this year with weather and high water. Late in the season we trailered to another public river with a course. Hadn't been in the course for over 8 weeks. Ran first set right down the line to my PB at 35. Super pumped feeling like a rock star only to find out the buoys were almost 3' too short. Learned if it is feeling easy, somethings not right. The course never feels easy.
  12. Off side has been much more consistent since I switched grip. RFF skier, left palm up. Every now and then I'll still kill and onside and lock stack right away sending me early to 3 or 5, but it's the consistency of 3 and 5 that keep me in the pass
  13. Do you need to have received a panda to order one? Seems like a right of passage
  14. Probably the trucks they stole the boats with
  15. this summer i would have taken anything other than high water, debris or white caps...such a crappy year in NW Ohio *rant over* I like a little ripple. keeps me honest and aggressive. i get lazy on my turns in pure glass
  16. If you adjust the CAM I highly recommend you have a dealer with a laptop hooked up while you do it. My engine manual calls for 0-4°. Blowing on the bolt while loose moved mine 2°. It was really sensitive and very easy to get out of whack. Just my experience.
  17. @BrennanKMN I had the exact same problem on my 07 running a single puck ZO. Above 30mph I would get an occasional miss and surge. New cap and rotor solved the problem.
  18. I'm in the same situation except my 07 is keyed so there never was a remote in the location shown above. Just the ignition switch. I haven't found a good location for a 3" remote that wouldn't look ridiculous. I'm also anal about my boat so that doesn't help. Originally I was going to fabricate a stainless bracket for under the dash but every location i measured was a knee banger getting in and out of the driver seat. Were you looking to install the 3" in the same place as the old clarion?
  19. @Razorskier1 and @Bill22 , Yes, kept the pic G rated....though I had a view choice words for the log. @6balls, no damage to boat. Prop damage with some mild vibration at 34, but not enough to warrant replacing until after the season. Shaft still turns true and strut/rudder were not affected. Luckily was only running trick speed otherwise it could have been a lot worse.
  20. Our river typically provides hours of great water skiing every season....The river gods were mad today. Rat Bast*rds. Ash tree limb, water logged just enough it floated 1/2" below the surface, but still solid.
  21. Sounds like your heading to a good setup. Skiing almost everyday is a huge bonus! Once you find a newer ski that fits your style and comfort level don't feel like you have to upgrade every year. Go with what works for you. My dad is 60+ and still rides his vintage Connelly Shortline into 32off year after year (looks just like this, with a newer binding of course) bought it new in the 70's. Says he likes it and has no need to change. Lot of support on this site. I upgraded from an old KD7000 to a used D3 x5 a couple years ago and was really happy. Bought it off of @swc5150 right here on BOS and plan to hold onto it for a while. Go chase some buoys!

    mapping Zero off

@TEL I hear you on the softer pull. The other boats we use have no speed control. We always run a stop watch gate to gate but we all agree ZO tells the tale of how well we are skiing. @Triplett @Bruce_Butterfield I agree we should start playing around with some of the settings. I've followed the ZO easter egg thread. haven't tried trick mode yet. Our course time has been very very limited this year with high water, currents and debris

    mapping Zero off

@MattP can you elaborate more on "If you do not map the boat you will essentially be skiing in cruse mode a constant speed with boat reaction but it would feel different" . Last year was our first year with a ZO boat(2007 196 330PCM). We use a portable course on a river. We only set the course when there is little to no current. We all ski B2 setting and I would like to better understand how to get the most out of ZO functionality. Right now its set in recreational mode and we just turn it off and on. we are all 34mph skiers running into 32off. I should also note that we typically pull the course out each time we use it so its not a fixed location each time.
  24. Best way IMO to feel the stack is tie your rope on a tree, put your feet in skiing position, lean away from the tree with the handle about at your hip and arms/knees not locked but ever so slightly bent, hold the handle just as you would skiing and hold that position both onside and offside. You should feel it in shoulders, quads, back , hips and core area with muscles you never knew you had. As far as speed/length I would say 15off at 32 would be a good place to start. You can always bump the speed up or down slightly to get you off the rooster tail.
