  1. I dissconnect the small bolt on the rudder arm and undo the pivoting clamp behind the "big nut". Now bring it all out in the open to remove the cable nut.
  2. I have generaly always gone to the larger ski if I am on the crossover point for sizes. This was the recommendation from the late great Eddie Roberts and I never felt I went wrong with his advice.
  3. Last year we had a 70's PS S & S- grey and blue stars show up on the lake. Fully restored to showroom like condition. So much mojo. The guy paid 10K CAD and is now local. Never skied a day in his life but wants to learn.
  4. For us Canadians - Canadian Tire sells a product exactly for this issue. I dropped an entire bucket of hot engine oil on the carpet doing an oil change. Sorry I cannot recall what it is called but it is a small bottle of carpet oil extractor that you apply, flood with hot water and suck up with a shop vac. It came out 100% and never returned. Next time I am there I will see if I can find it again and post the info.
  5. 1 AUD = 0.67 USD And I thought our Canadian dollar exchange rate was bad enough!
  6. Cannot recall where I heard this, but, the thought of lifting your belly button as high off the ski as possible and leading with it across both wakes did it for me. I have not "folded" at either wake since. It is the first thing that comes to mind after every turn. Thank you to who ever it was that put that out there.
  7. I was free skiing on a river regularly and was experiencing what @Sethro is trying to control. I have Stargazer with Zbox and was told by PP that I would need to add the paddle wheel if I wanted to control the feet/minute of the water moving under the ski. To keep the feeling the same up/down river I adjusted the MPH setting. If current was 2mph that day it was set 32mph upstream and 36mph down stream. Of course this would change everything in you want to run bouys using gps so you would have to learn to deal with the different feels. For those of you who have never skied in a current running bouys when you travel upstream you generate way more speed and it feels like you are skiing at a much faster speed. Down stream is the opposite. This is why Moomba is such a different animal.
  8. @RichardDoaneI changed out the hoses c/w mixer last fall with new ones and they did exactly the same thing! All 3 leaked! I put back on the original 1997 hoses and leaks are gone. Next time I venture down to Spokane I am swinging in to return them personally.
  9. Jasper appears to be a legit engine rebuilder so I would say it is priced on par with hulls of this vintage. As you probably know it is concidered one of the best slalom hulls Nautique has ever produced. I have not seen many of them in a open bow configuration so it might be a bit unusual but great for added room. IE: kids, etc
  10. Not just world tour but world championships. I think it was 2010 Worlds that were hosted.
  11. https://www.schulliresort.com/ This is THE campground you want to stay at. Tell the owner Neil that Ken sent you. The government sites are booked through the BCParks website. Park is named Gladstone https://camping.bcparks.ca/ I launch my boat from Schulli's campground and there are severl others that do as well. We have a good group of summer residents who are dedicated daily skiers including a few retired Canadian pros. Yes the surf roller statement is very true so no evening skis any longer. True that portable courses pop up every now and then mainly at the south end where the campground is located. I have a course we can drop in during your stay as well as a course that is sunk during the busy summer months but if you really want to we can float one. Expect daily maintenance. PM me if you like should you need more info. Ken
  12. @swbca Your thread title is appropriate. Very limited access is available to this site.
  13. @DanoKinda the same. My last 4 ski progressions have been 2015Vapor, C65, HO Omega, R2. I flip back and forth between the Omega and the R2. R2 skis better in the rough stuff and overall I can ski the R2 regardless of how I am feeling. Very consistant on it. I think it is as fast as any of my other skis because I get farther up the side of the boat with it but it just does not feel like it is fast. Maybe it has the ability to warp time somehow. Last fall I tossed some boots on the old C65 and was very surprised how well I skiied on it. Fun is a good discriptor for the C65.
  14. I live and ski on a summer vacation lake so I see a lot of different skiers in a season. I have skied with a few guys now that are on the R1, tried the R2 and chose to stay on the R1. Having never skied the R1 I cannot personally compare but it seems to me there is enough different to give them each distinct feels.
  15. This thread had lots of info on the R2 with some comparisons to the R1. I bought my R2 in Aug of 2021 and had to wait a few months for it to be built.
  16. Don't forget to edit your SIA ad. Congrats on the sale. What did you replace it with?
  17. it seems between between comparable graphs, there is not a terribly huge difference @ 34 & 36mph.....but that could be my blooodshot eyes that have been awake for almost 20hrs.
  18. The Ski Ray is a pretty decent boat built by Sea Ray. Typical that wakes get better as the line shortens but the 22 -off at 36mph is as good as any of that era. We ski occassionally with a guy who has this hull as well as the outboard version for barefooting.
  19. I have been dealing with an ankle I broke 20 yrs ago. My ortho told me the same that the current ankle systems would not hold up to water skiing, Last thing he said, "when you retire from skiing come and see me."
  20. I can't quite agree with the above posts so I will chime in. Up here in Canada (BC) there were a lot of Appolo Starfires sold in the 70's and 80's.. Many are still on the water today and I know that two sold on our lake last summer. They can be OMC or Mercruiser drivelines but I recommend trying to stay with the Merc. I have skied this hull alot and yes it is not a DD but it can take you a long ways. It will be a bit crowed for a family but it rides rough water really well which is a prime consideration everyone should have when boating on public waters. The one for sale pictured is 2 hrs from me in Spokane Wa. (3950.00) My ski partners is simular, it pulls well, and with a 350 4bl carb it does 70 mph so you can get there in a hurry too. There are many hulls out there that would fit the bill. Link here to a good reference site for classic hulls. http://www.retrorunabout.com/
  21. Not just filming but even trying to run the course. First week or so is only open water for this kid.
  22. Also funny on pc. Grey area along the sides is new and making center text area skinny.
  23. @VONMAN That is a really nice looking trailer. With the axle location it must be effortless to back up. Love the boat too.
