  1. In 2008 Andy skied in the European and World Senior championships at 34mph, before the competition the rumour was he was running 41 at leisure on his new Elite ski but in the competition he managed 1 @ 41 for gold at the Worlds and 1/2 @ 41 for silver in the Europeans. He did get a lot of criticism from Schnitz for being overweight at the time.
  2. I have a work cycle where I am away from home for two weeks out of five, every time I come home my upper body muscles are in agony for a couple of days after my first day's skiing. I was thinking about trying a Powervest to see if it would help me, also thought about the FM ski harness or making something myself. Has anyone got any feedback on the above products as I don't want to spend a lot of money on something that won't help my problem. Cam

    Nate slow

After this video was taken 2 years ago Nicole was coaching me and she told me to attack the first wake, she certainly seems to be doing that here.
  5. Not up to Horton's standard but at least it is viewable, one comment though Nate at quarter speed looks faster than me at normal speed at 34mph.
  6. The 1st video was taken using my home made video mount and the 2nd was with a tracker with a right angled attachment fitted which the camera was attached to by velcro. 2 different lakes and skiers but both using a Playsport ZX3
  7. Before it gets too technical the reason I posted is because I found an old photo of a friend who decided to take her fin off to clean her ski and didn't put the fin back correctly, she had 4 sets on the ski and nobody including herself noticed any difference in her skiing. Thanks for the comments above, she is now running the course but not on that ski. Hopefully the picture is attached below and she doesn't kill me for posting it.
  8. I was wondering how critical fin settings are for someone just learning to ski the course.
  9. Hit a coot once, but the funniest one was when a small fish jumped out of the water and hit me on the left nut just as I was about to pull out for the gates, needless to say I didn't make it to the gates, wasn't funny for me but the boat crew thought it was hilarious.
  10. should have added that anything I could find on the internet about packing size recommended 1/4" packing for my year of boat and the 5mm didn't take up the gap as much as I would have expected.
  11. Hope I am not hijacking this thread but I have a similar problem. When my club got our three year old 196 a couple of weeks ago we were given a wrap of square profile 5mm (slightly larger than 3/16") gland packing to put in the drive shaft stuffing box, I fitted the packing before we put the boat in the water and then adjusted to a small drip when in the water. After about an hours running I found that the packing had burned out, we bought a length of 5mm packing and I cut and fitted 4 wraps and put it back in the water, we found that to get a reasonable drip rate the gland would heat up to a point where we could barely touch it but would cool down OK if we had an unacceptable drip rate (only tightening the gland nut by hand) When I fitted the packing the 1st time I noticed that the gland nut was hard to get the threads started as it was at a slight angle to the shaft, I slackened off the stern tube rubber and managed to get the nut on but there wasn't enough play in it to get an even gap all round between the nut and the shafts. My 2 questions are, should I be able to adjust the nut to shaft gap? and if I cant and a slight misalignment is acceptable should I try 6mm (1/4") packing? Thanks Cam
  12. 60 this year, that is old but two of my ski buddies are older.
  13. All of the above reminds me of the Drew Ross Shortline video, I will have to dig it out and watch it again./vanillaforum/js/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-undecided.gif Cam

Â Kal, Got all the material just need to stitch them together when I get home on Wednesday, test them on Friday. Had a dry run with one stapled together and it seemed OK. Â DanE, I skied at Poros twice a year from 99 until 07 did we ever meet? I taught Emma Martin's girlfriend to ski, that is how he ended up in Scotland.

Official ski season is April to September with a few skiing March and October and a small group of us ski all year as long as the loch doesn't freeze, last year was the worst as it was frozen solid for 3 months, we usually get away with just a couple of weeks.

Yes, I skied with Martin and his brother Jamie in Poros and then was instrumental in getting him a job at the Centre, he was with us for 2 years and then went back to Poros for a year. He opened up his own place in Loch Earn this year but I haven't been up to see it yet maybe make the journey next year.

Thanks for the above posts, won't be on the water for another week to try it out. I think my position comes from too many face plants in the early days, but I am aware of it as IÂ planned skiing at a slower speed on an HO triumph to iron out some faults but no matter what I tried I couldn't stop the ski launching on my offside pull through the wakes so gave up on it.

Thanks, got straight onto the handle and what you describe above is how I feel on dry land, it just doesn't seem to transfer onto water, there are occasions when I cut through the wakes going to 2,4,6 but mostly I get the kick although I do try to keep my arms straight, but obviously don't when I look at the video.

After the great feedback I received last month on my wife's skiing, I would appreciate any comments and tips that I can work on through the winter. Thanks Cam
  24. Couldn't get a hold of the ski I wanted to try her on so she had 2 sets on the Fisher, 1st one was as usual although she said she was trying to get off her back foot and get her hips up. In between sets we decided to get a rope and handle out and practice her position on it, she agreed that if everyone on BOS was criticising her body position she would have to try to work on it, she also took more of an interest in watching other skiers her level and above and even commented on how my line and width into buoy 1 is so much different from hers. 2nd set she was so much better and didn't let her hips drop back once, I had someone else in the boat who agreed she looked a lot better getting more speed and less bounce through the wakes on her offside. Bottom line is she came off the water buzzing and can't wait to ski again. Thanks Cam
