  1. @buechsr is right. @CBR51 Masters has traditionally invited the 8 top skiers on the list plus a potential 9th from LCQ. It’s a run time limit to get the event done.

    IWWF?

    @kmenard Just L or R events. Does not apply to C,E, or F. https://www.ballofspray.com/forum#/discussion/24829/attention-international-event-and-world-ranking-skiers
  3. @drew it was awesome to watch especially after how close he came in the first round! We were cheering for him after every turn. Highlight of the event hands down. I see some big scores coming from him in the future. Y’all keep on doing what y’all are doing! Love seeing his passion for the sport on the water!
  4. When Sacha Descuns ran into 41 for the first time in a record event. He was 15y8m2days (born 2/5/1992). Sports Center Slalom Cup 10/7/2007 score was .5@41.
  5. Looks like Parrish had a ranking score of 1.75@41 on the October 1996 list. That would put him roughly at 17 running into 41. All prior lists had him way below that score. I know he ran it his freshman year in college at the 1998 NCWSA Nationals.
  6. I always heard it had the best slalom pull, but they couldn't get jump working the way the skiers wanted it so PP eventually won out.
  7. World lists online only go back through 1997. He ran it that year. He would have been ~18, but not sure before that. That would be a bit before my memory. @CParrish43 ?
  8. That was his claim on Instagram. I would assume it’s true. Would need to check against the historical world lists that are available. https://www.instagram.com/p/COa9TSpJCpy/?igshid=1t2vzlsrsm4k4
  9. @unksskis looks like entries were done offline.
  10. Drove over a duck in the course once. He popped up and swam away dazed and confused.
  11. @Edbrazil dropped some great knowledge in this thread on course dimensions and the switch to metric. I know he posted more on the subject in other places but will take some time to find. https://www.ballofspray.com/forum#/discussion/12328/slalom-course-redesign-a-thread-for-those-suffering-from-b-r-d-s/p2
  12. Today I drove 4 sets then hopped in the water to ski.... no it's not ideal and this is usually how things go for me. Need to be better...
  13. @The_MS yes and no. I think all officials should be required to take the training, but apparently it is goin to all members so if there are members who do not want to give 1 hour of their time to protect the children in the sport I am not sure I want people like that at a tournament. If someone fails they have to take the training until they pass if I am not mistaken. If you have a problem with the decision I think you should reach out to your regional reps & AWSA reps on the USAWS BOD. I have been a high school coach for 11 years. I can tell you this training has helped many many people prevent bad actors from doing something or be sanctioned. Understanding what to look for, what to do and how to act is a main part of the training. @MarkTimm can you say that a bit louder so the people at the top can hear?
  14. @Ed_Johnson I agree with @dvskier. There are also a lot of cabin rentals in the area if you want a larger space. Hotels in Ellijay as well. I will be there.
  15. Just buy some new rubber and keep a spare. It will rip from time to time. Replace the screws with shorter ones. This will put the rubber in a better compression and will be less likely to rip.
  16. I bet @mmosley899 or @teammalibu could make you something. I think it’s unfortunate that the brands go down these roads every few years on their own hole patterns. They always end back up at the industry standards.it will make it hard in the coming years to make these skis usable at a reasonable price if at all.
  17. @unksskis we have not extended the 6 years. Only gave forgiveness to those that skied in a tournament from the start of last spring through the end of this spring. We do take appeals on eligibility for those that think that this has adversely affected them. @ToddL Sounds like Matt did everything possible for his team for that he should be commended greatly. It is not easy to run a team. The mandate of "team" affiliation is the actual barrier to current participation in our sport for collegiate skiers Please show me where this mandated. I am in agreement with @Broussard I skied unaffiliated which sparked my interest in starting a team. At no point do we discourage any skier who is in college from skiing in a NCWSA Tournament. We are not in the situation that you describe so your document is currently not needed. Schools are not banning teams. They can still exist, recruit, have meetings and raise funds. They can't practice or travel outside their city. For campus SAFTEY reasons. Therefore having a skier go to an NCWSA tournament and ski who is affiliated with a team who is currently not allowed to travel would be breaking school policy and possibly get that team suspended or canceled. Has this happened this year? - Yes. Did we work it out - Yes. It is not worth the risk to our member teams to ski in NCWSA tournaments at this time. Therefore we do not have any. Skiers could go ski AWSA as in individual. I'm not sure you fully understand the current state of the sport division and how it operates. Call me happy to talk about it. PSA: IF YOU ARE IN COLLEGE GO SKI A COLLEGE TOURNAMENT REGARDLESS IF YOU HAVE A TEAM. @amandalr great to hear! I have heard a lot of the same stories this past year. Teams focusing on themselves and not the rush to get to tournaments every weekend.
  18. The state of the sport is still strong. There are students still running teams and actively recruiting. Many teams are still allowed to practice and some can even travel. It is changing week to week for each school. In the SAC we only have 1 team that is allowed to compete as of today. We have had multiple schools get started on getting new teams off the ground. Many of the skiers ventured into AWSA for the first time this fall to find ways to still be on the water and see their friends. @liquid d when are you hosting the 1/2 event? There will be plenty of Spring AWSA events college skiers could enter and the NCWSA All-Stars in May @ Laku Landing. ____ @ToddL Your sons team is not alone. There are many that have struggled to return to the water but across the board this has been the case for almost all sports form the Grade School through College level. It's a pandemic. Every organization and entities involved are doing what they think is best and we can't fault them for that. You can't compare each school to anther though we all really want to. There are college teams that share a lake where one can practice and another can't. I am a high school coach the team next door to us has been traveling and competing for months and we won't possibly for another moth and we are all ok with that. It is not ideal but it's what our leadership has decided. Changing schools during a pandemic to save a college skiing experience that won't happen this year seems like a drastic move. Skiing is a huge part of being on a ski team but the the best part are the relationships, friendships and leadership experience the ski team members learn. Building a team back up after this well be tough for all college club sports not just skiing. I don' think he should lose all hope, helping to build a team is very rewarding. If I remember correctly you are a boat owner on a ski lake. Have you been able to invite your son and his friends out to ski as individuals and not a team sanctioned event? I have discussed with the teams I work with on how to approach their Club Sports departments, show them the USAWS Guidelines for Covid-19 as well as being available myself to speak with their Club Sports leadership if necessary or write them a letter as a representative of the Region Leadership. Has your son asked for NCWSA support? What kind of help does he need? Has he reached out to his region Chairman & Vice-Chairman? What kind of support do you think we at NCWSA can provide him that I have not already listed? We are here to help our member teams in any way we can. There are virtually no NCWSA Sanctioned Tournaments (only 1) happening in the country but skiers have ventured into AWSA and this is a great way for them to seek water time on their own accord outside of a school sanctioned team event in their own age division. The NCWSA also put in place an eligibility waiver since last spring through this spring. I have read through the proposal and I do not see what you are trying to accomplish here. It looks like you are trying to reinvent the wheel when it is still rolling. No NCWSA events are taking place and unaffiliated college skiers are able to participate in NCWSA if those tournaments were happening on A-Team, B-Team or as Age Division depending on their regions rules. All college skiers can enter a AWSA Tournament as an Individual. Team skiing is built into WSTIMS and the host can group skiers under any rules they want for a friendly competition combining age division scores together. @JeffSurdej @tvaio @Driggski @Broussard
  19. @ErikBerghiller have you ever run the system through a slalom course and compared? I see a course in the promo videos.
  20. @lpskier you are correct on costs and mgf choosing to use line time for higher profit boats. I get that and I dont blame them.. It is a business. My previous post was to highlight that promo boats may not be in areas they actually need to be. I also think that the trend of all wake/surf boats going down the line will change once all the covid buyers put their boats on the used market. Slots will be plenty for ski boats on the line and the mfgs may be actually happy to make them. We are the only sport that "demands" new boats every 12 months. Is there an actual list of all 3 legit promo owners and where they are located? I was in a meeting last year where I was told that all 3 manufactures combined (4 models) made 200 or just under 200 ski boats in 2019. I pushed back on this but was told it was accurate. I think it may have left out promo or international numbers but I never got an updated answer.
  21. @Horton more saying that we should be moving more to the club model on built ski lakes over each owner buying their own boat. You can only run 1 boat at a time it something I've never understood. If the clubs/schools are the ones that want to invest in the boats & not take it outside their lake to other events besides Regionals & Nationals I would not have a problem with that as long as those clubs host events. I think we have 4-5 club boats in GA alone. @lpskier yup I get that, but I think that only applies to a few of the bigger ski schools. Times have changed for them too. Interesting on the promo numbers in the West I would have thought there would be more. But do we have to look at who is in control of the promo programs? Who decides who is in and where the boats go? Should they be distributed differently? Is it a dealer issue or a Mfg problem? Are they first come first served or the good ole by system? Should they actually look at tournament data and place boats where they are actually needed? Ok nerd time. I have been working on some data. This is still preliminary but very close. 312 sites held 5,235 sanctioned AWSA events (C,E,L,R) in the past 10 years in 42 different states. (I removed class F) Total number of tournaments by Region 2010-2020. 5,235 West - 1448 Southern - 1399 MidWest - 1045 South Central - 731 Eastern - 612 Total number of sites by Region 2010-2020. 312 MidWest - 82 Southern - 77 Western - 76 South Central - 45 Eastern - 32
  22. @Horton I do think the Southern Region is the outlier & possibly South Central. In the Southern Region I believe every state has at least 2 or more promo boats. Why can't the ski school model be used and transferred into the ski club model?
