  1. I'm considering a possible relocation to the Chicago area. It's a tough call moving from warm south TX to dark cold south IL but living on a ski lake would help make the decision easier. :-) Is there anyone on this board that lives on a ski lake that is commutable to downtown Chicago? Or does anyone know of any private lakes in the area? Looking at the Google maps ski site overlay it looks like there are 4 lake communities southwest of downtown about 30 to 40 miles. The only one I can find info on is Ninovan Lake Estates.
  2. FYI... my neighbor has just listed his Lago Santa Fe home for sale...  http://www.ski-it-again.com/php/skiitagain.php?topic=Search&postid=13990

  4. "I guess my question is do we really need to try to ski super smooth..." My chiropractor says yes! And after my noon'er set that was more Regina than April, I say yes too!
  5. I’m Clay Horsley. 48 and a ski addict.  Learned to ski at 4 years old so I’ve been skiing just about all my life. Skied my first private lake, Shortline Lake (Elk Grove, CA), in ’85. Fell in love with it. Knew that someday I had to live on one. Skied at Stillwater Ranch (Pleasant Grove, CA) up until ’04. Was involved in the creation of Redwood Shores (Lincoln, CA) in ‘03/’04.  Shortly thereafter relocated east to a place where you could not ski year round. Went stir crazy only being able to ski 3 months out of the year.  Built a home at Lago Santa Fe (Santa Fe, TX) in ’06. Yes, it is on Lake One. Haven’t skied a tournament since the late 70’s/early 80’s and really have no desire to. But I do have a desire to ski 3-4 times a week and ‘foot when the body allows.  Current PB was set this summer, 3 @ 35 off/34mph.  (thank you A1!!)   I’m excited as hell that I’m still setting PB’s at this point. Have an 8 year old son who is slowly coming back from the dark-side (wakeboarding) to slalom skiing.  He can make the mini-course and get 2 regulation buoys. Watching him round the 2 ball and the smile that he gets on his face is absolutely incredible.  My wife has skied for 9 years and just started to get all 6 buoys this summer. She is totally addicted. She actually stated that making all 6 is better than sex. Not really sure if she was kidding or not.  http://www.ballofspray.com/vanillaforum/js/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-undecided.gif  Doesn’t matter though as she can drive the boat with the best of ‘em. Part time lurker on BOS. Author of ‘The Rant’.
  6. When I moved to an A1 I increased my PB by 6 buoys. If the A2 can do the same again I'd gladly lay out $1300 for it. :-)
  7. ... or even an opinion from someone who skied behind it?
  8. Excellent post, and great timing as I too started consistently working on 35 off a month or so ago. One thing I just can't seem to get is 'up on the boat' to start. If I pull out to early I'm drifting back in and then get a terrible angle through the gates. If I pull out later I'll be late coming back to the gates and screaming over to 1. When do you start the pull out for 35, how far do you go out, and how do you maintain it?
  9. So last week a few of the neighborhood women were sitting around, having a few drinks, talking about skiing. Ya gotta love 'em. :-) They somehow got on the topic of how long it takes to work your way through a rope length. Comparing their spouses they came to the conclusion that it takes about 3 years. This comparison included one of the top big dawgs, one that runs into mid-35 off' and one that came into skiing later in life. As I thought about this I had to agree with them. I'm the mid-35 off guy and it took about 3 years for me to get through 32. It's only taken me a months to get to 3 @ 35, and while I hope it doesn't take me 35 more months to get into 38, even if it does it will be worth every minute on the water. What has your experience been?
  10. LOL! Looks good. Received the mug. Thanks John.
  11. Needs a BOS image on the front and the words.... 'Don't think... just ski.' On the back... the header could be "If you do think, you have 16.95 seconds to consider…"
  12. I don't know about you guys, but I think about quite a bit in 16.95 seconds. Such as... - I really have to get new shorts, these drag too much on the pull outs. - Dammit, too much lube in my bindings. - Man, that was a sweet gate! - I forgot, which palm goes up? - Could I backside the 1 ball any closer? - It’s only my first pass but I smell a PB today! - Glad I adjusted my fin for this offside turn, hope it’s not too much! - How long do I have to wait for the 2 ball? - This ski is so much more stable than a Monza. - Maybe I should have tried a D3? - That was a sweet 3 ball! - Stop looking at the buoys! - I really like my new vest. - The water is smooth! I should be barefooting! - SHit! Im late at 4! - Maybe my fin should be .0001 longer, then I would always be early. - When’s the last time I changed the impeller? - Ok, on cross winds to the North I need to really hold my 1-3-5 lean for .125 seconds longer, and to the South opposite. - Oh wait, I think I have that backwards. - Someone really needs to adjust that 5 ball. - Why is the engine revng so much? - Tacos and Corona sound good for dinner. - Breathe… Breathe… Breathe… - I could swear the 6 ball was farther down course. - Is PP/ZO set correctly? Probably not. Stupid driver. - Dammit, missed the gates¦ maybe they didnt notice. - Close enough for me! Lets cut the rope!
  13. Beautiful boat, but that umbrella/bimini has got to go.
  14. According to my neighbor... 2002 Lago Nationals M3 = 145 skiers and M4 = 103 skiers , 2010 Nationals M3= 43 skiers and M4 = 64 skiers
  15. My neighbor has a '99 Gekko, built by Fineline Industries. Not sure of entire Gekko life story but I think they were bought by someone in MN, maybe Canada, went bankrupt, and now being made by Fineline again. You can still get a Gekko for $30k. As Karl states its a great boat; excellent pull (has stargazer), tracks very well, wakes are decent if a little hard at 22. I agree that it is looked down upon by some of the more snobbish 3 eventers in the 'hood. As for me, I set PB's behind it as often as I do behind my 'Bu and another neighbors MC.
  16. As long as they were photo-shopping... they could have at least taken care of #3's #1 issue...
  17. Rod, $21K! Wow, that's a hell of a deal. I"ll pass that on to a few neighbors. Clay

  19. I ended up getting a pair of '09 Animals from Bennett's close out bin. $200 total, includes tax and shipping.
  20. My '07 Animals are finally starting to fall apart and need to be replaced. Has anyone tried the new '10 Animals?
  21. 'dude... find me those gloves and a 6-pack of Shiner is all yours... :-)
  22. I finally wore out a pair of the black/gray camo's gloves this year, best pair of gloves I've ever had. If there is a source for these too let us know!
  23. For the same price as Barts wrist and ankle kits O'Neil is replacing all the seals on my 9 year old Boost dry suit. I'm sure (or is it I hope) they are doing a much better job than I could with those kits.
  24. Way too aggressive for the gates.
