  1. When I was in high school, I went to the Kidder factory and picked up my Redline Graphite. This makes me want to go to the D3 factory, pick up a ski, and go ski it at Tate Lake.
  2. I've been teaching my daughter snow skiing since she could stand and it has been an amazing trip. As long as you are patient and know what you are doing, I think teaching your kids is a great way to bond.
  3. This is sorta' what I figured @eleeski could do in Hawaii. Dig out a ski pond next to the surf and fill it with sea water.
  4. Last spring my Barefoot Int'l dry suit blew out at the neck and I had to ski in my 2/3 Blacktec wetsuit with snow on the ground. It was remarkably warm. I still would have preferred my drysuit, but the Balcktec kept me skiing. We get about a week of shorts weather per season here, so drysuits are pretty mandatory. The only problems I have with them is the inability to pee mid-set and it's a little harder to see some of my bad habits on the video. I love the Barefoot Int'l suit. In fact I just ordered another one today.
  5. You have to love how committed our sport is to the American worker. Manufacturing is key to innovation. Innovation is the key to any future. Thanks for supporting our future - both on and off the water!
  6. Oh! And skiing the river with Kenny is totally worth it.
  7. Why not build a site near the ocean and pump in salt water?
  8. I've had a torn rotator cuff for 1.5 years now, and I tweaked my back putting my daughter's trampoline together last July and it hasn't gotten any better despite countless hours of rehab, stretching, and massage. After witnessing three friends benefit from a powervest while recovering from various surgeries, I'm beginning to view $600 as a pittance.
  9. I was in your exact position six years ago ('82 Kidder Redline Graphite). I went with what was a less than forgiving tournament ski (O'brien Elite), but I still loved it. Everything in today's market skis easier than that Elite, but honestly, anything you buy will feel awesome after skiing 80's technology!
  10. What Mark said! I haven't been there since 1983, but the Last Blast tournaments at Tate Lake are an attempt to recapture the magic of Crescent Bar.
  11. Waterskiing used to be way cooler both to participate in and as it was seen by outsiders. But that was back when the vast majority of the boats on public water were under 20 feet. As long as there are wakeboard boats on public water, waterskiing will remain less appealing. It's no fun risking a swamping to ski through 3-foot rollers.
  12. I've manicured @dougski 's island. It's not so bad after a few beers. He keeps it pretty well trimmed.
  13. Dragonfly Lake is in St. Ignatius and is the closest skiing to Missoula, but I don't know how to get on there. @jedgell is the fella' you want to talk to. Otter Tail Lake has closed its club, so we are all scrambling to find a new ski site & boat.
  14. I ripped the neck seal on my drysuit in the first week of our season and had to wear my blacktec 2.0 with 40* air and 45* water - several times. It wasn't ideal, but I wasn't miserable either. The exposed skin on my legs stung a bit, but the rest of me was warm. It took a while to wrap my brain around the fact that I wasn't freezing. As the season progressed the 2.0 began developing little pinholes and wasn't nearly as warm.
  15. No faith in T-Whisper?! I'll cast my vote his way.
  16. It reminds me of the Seattle grunge band Cat Butt and their seminal album on Sub Pop, "Journey to the Center of..."
  17. It's never been cooler to be a waterskier! So many badasses out there!
  18. @Horton I am particularly drawn to products that have a connection to BOS. OB4's are less appealing without a baller standing behind them.
  19. I owned a beautiful '93 Stars&Stripes with SG - 285HO. It was awesome and I never had a problem going from a TXi to my boat. In fact the MC had a better wake. I sold it because I belong to a club and only used it about 5 times a year. I know I could have fun behind anything from '91 MC and beyond. '93 and beyond for Nautique. Any speed control will do... for me!
  20. People have more options now and less disposable income. American wages haven't increased since the early eighties. Give folks more money and the sport will grow. Pretty simple.
  21. Your body position and fundamental technique should be far more important to you at this stage than buoy count. I have been bumping my head on 28 for the past couple of years, my technique was ugly and inefficient, so I took all of July to work on my stack and fundamentals. I never cut rope. I skied 35 sets at 15'. At the beginning of August I ran my first tournament 28 and have increased my consistency at 28' dramatically. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger says, "Reps Baby!"
  22. When you win as often as America does... Your language tends to follow suit.
