  1. Bruce, dave, KM - what flex are you on ? All mid's I assume.
  2. Can't do it from Canada
  3. Tried one, two & three on Nano std. One up front is great. Two small, one front, one rear on top and std foil on bottom tracks a little better through the wakes than the single. Three in the standard setup, (big one top back) is not good for a std ski. I think the big wing is necessary for stability which is lost in that setup. A bigger big ventral for std skis may be the hot setup.
  4. Someone to look up to, something to look forward to. Congatulations Jack
  5. Go to http://www.perfectpass.com/ I'm sure all your questions can be answered and more. I agree with Jim go the Star Gazer route.
  6. I was at Eric's last week and skied 10 passes switching between ZO and the ZO simulator that's in development. He's been working on it on and off for some time. A few of us here have tried it as we're all within 15 minutes of Eric's. It's been tweeked over the last while and even between passes. I couldn't tell the diff in the end, but I only ran my 35. Because it's only in development I probably shouldn't say anything about it but I can say it will be simple. BTW, loved the pull, steady & correct speed into the course, pull only when you pull, and then shuts down smoothly so you can change edge and carry out. Made my passes feel easy, made the ski feel more in control.
  7. youngman - non release bindings are not a good idea ! We have someone here who skiied with non release bindings. He's still limping and waiting for his second operation. Ended skiing for him maybe forever.
  8. Jdarwin - I agree, I would have done that but I didn't think it would be as dramatic. Wish and MS - I'll try some depth first, if that dosen't do it, off with the ventral - It's just an experiment. DW - the Nano is a F1 car the 9700 was a sedan. I'm not sure yet that I have the skill to tame it. The Nano is far less forgiving of small mistakes as it reflects even the smallest inputs, good or bad. However, with wing on, it's almost impossible to loose an edge. It also feels like it has more rocker and a shorter flat in the middle. I have been skiing with Star Gazer, but I did ski with ZO and the developing PP version of the ZO simulator last week. That made the ski change personalities. It was far more stable and decelerated where it should allowing it to make a nice smooth turn. Skied C1.
  9. Looks like we did the same thing, and wrote about it at the same time. that's weird.
  10. Ok, so it didn't -quite. After having a tournament at our place on Saturday, and not having another for 2 weeks, it seemed like a good idea to try Horton's no wing setup. - Nano, took wing off, left front vental on. First set I was cautious, but it went well. I actually liked it a lot. Ran a couple @ 35 which is close to what I've been doing on the Nano (down a pass from last year on 9700). Second set I decided all was well so I put a little more into it. Bad mistake, OTF on the second wake, reinjured sholder and tore my vest a new armhole. My physiotherapist will be glad to see me back though. I like the feel of no wing because the ski carries out very easily, something I.ve been having a hard time with, but my question is, next time I try this do I get rid of the ventral or deepen the fin ???
  11. JB weld is great, I use it to change the porting in motors and it stays there for years. For areas that need to flex more, I use MAS Epoxies. They make several different epoxies that are more flexible than JB.
  12. I agree with kfennell, get the best "shock doctor" mouthguard you can get. In hockey mine saved me several times from hard hits on the ice. I wear it motorcycle racing too, anywhere you might take a good hit.
  13. ski6 You are at the light weigth end for that ski, so if it was me I 'd first try to just go forward with the fin. .010 leave the wing at 7. I'm 137.
  14. ski6 - What's your height and weight ? I have a 64.25 Nano, it took about 20 sets to get it working well, although most of it was unfortunatly done in 50-55 deg water. Now I'm back to a couple at 38, but those two are coming a lot easier and I've only tried it a few times as I'm trying to clean up my 35 first. Water is back up to 75 which helps. I'm .005 shallower, .008 shorter and .005 more forward than spec. Small wing @ 5.75 and front vental.
  15. I'll second that ED. After about 28 sets I think I found it.
  16. I got lasered, best thing I ever did. I skied a lot of one eyed passes before.
  17. Have had different 2 courses. EZ slalom is top notch.
  18. Nice shots John, all that rough water though I don't know if I could stand it.
  19. I usually go a little shallower as the water gets warmer. I my lake about .003-4 every 10 F.
  20. I made a bunch of wings some years ago to expeiment with. They were various sizes, widths, thickness, angles. I made many observations, but in general, the wide wings are more stable but have more drag for the same angle, the small wings had less stability but and less drag. Small wings seem to accelerate quicker also. Assuming the same surface area, a longer wing keeps the ski more level as opposed to a wider one that alows you to transfer weight front to back faster. You just have to find something that works for you. I've used a small wing for a long time, but I am on small in stature also. I think Ed's got it right about the ventral, that's my next project.
  21. Hi Ed: Did you try the Nano with stock "as it came " settings ? If so, impressions ?
  22. Very good point DW, and I guess I forgot that angle. That's the old part of me. I know it's off the topic, but I saw Nigel at Montreal a couple of times in his hay day and when you could stand 10' away from the track at the fastest part going into the esses. He was the only one not to lift. The exhaust that close to the track would pound on your chest.
  23. Anyone ever try any of this type of things? This is just one product. http://www.armtec.com/en-ca/Products-and-Services/Soil-Retention/Geosynthetics/Geocell.aspx
  24. I agree with you Eric that .002" -.005" is not much for an average size person 160-165 lb. But I guess what I was kind of getting at here, is that I only know one other skier who is near my size (slightly bigger) and he is very sensitive to small changes also. Both of us can set a fin to .0005" and easily feel .001" changes, while the larger skiers I know seem to need bigger changes to feel it. However, I only have a very small base of people to ski with and I'm old and set in my ways. I ski only 1 to 2 @ 38 when I ski well , so I'm just getting opinons from better than me, like yourself, to try to help others also. Maybe a few of the girls could comment, too.
  25. Ed, I'll try ventrals when the water warms up a little. Probably late June here. Thanks for the reminder about the numbers John.
