  1. The 2008 Rlxi that my ski partner has is equipped with the plate and has very nice wakes at 15 off. Here's a pic of -15 31mph if it helps. Right now I ski equally well behind it and my 2001 nautique. We haven't tried it without the plate so I can't compare with/ without.
  2. What's the liability like in giving pulls to the local collegiate waterski team ( slalom and trick- we don't have a jump) I'm not currently a member of USA waterski but the ski team is, and I carry insurance on my boat as well as a blanket liability policy. It seems like giving pulls to the local team behind a solid slalom boat would really help them out.
  3. I volunteer to ski this boat at -15 32mph and compare it against the other boats.
  4. @MIskier that sounds like good advice. What are the mechanics of getting your ski out in front? any good pictures or videos of good and bad examples regarding this concept?
  5. @MISkier do the zbox boats lock into the speed better than pp without zbox? My only complaint is that Mine locks in great at 34 mph but at 30 mph it sometimes searches around until I find the right combination of crew wt, n/+/++, skier wt etc. if zbox would fix the problem I would buy it.
  6. 2001 Ski Nautique closed bow. By the time I put a few more thousand hours on it and bring it to Jody for repower I might be good enough to want zero off.
  7. This sport itself is not complicated, but the rules are!
  8. The outback V will make a nice tube mobile and the materials have increased in quality in the last few years. The new outback V is a 12 person boat according to moomba's website. Take the money you save and buy a slalom tractor.
  9. my "other" boat is a 2008 Moomba Outback V that I bought before I started skiing the course. I actually used it on the course a few times. I was thinking about trading it for a direct drive outback when I stumbled across a closed bow nautique that was too good to pass up that now serves as my dedicated course boat. The moomba has simple materials compared to the more expensive boats but build quality has been fine, and it's been a very reliable boat. When we go on vacations to public lakes I'll bring the Moomba, and I'm happy to ski it in open water. That way my beautiful little nautique never has to see open water and I don't feel any pressure from my wife to have a ski boat with an open bow.
  10. sounds like he's close- how about putting the speed control in practice mode and dropping the speed by 1mph. I spent a long time trying to find 6 ball at 28.5 mph and I wish somebody would have told to drop the speed a little so I could have tasted victory sooner.
  11. This thread reminds me of the time I went to ski school and the "coach" kept yelling "did you pay for the entire ski? Well then use the entire ski!!!" But he never actually told me how to do it and leaning over the front of the ski sure as hell doesn't work.
  12. @KevFug Radar products are top notch and customer service is awesome.
  13. @Tom351 that might be the best thing I learn today!
  14. Guys thanks for all the thought and effort you put in helping guys like us. It would be easy for you to run your short lines and keep your content in the advanced section. You've helped my skiing this year- my challenge pass is now my easy pass. No reason for me to jump to a board "intended" for low end skiers. Seriously thanks.
  15. Hard to believe I've been around here long enough to see this happen to others. And yes I had a conversation with an excavator who likes to barefoot about digging a ski pond the other day.
  16. The Moomba Outback has a very roomy bow. I've never skied one but the people who have them really seem to like it. I agree the boat's history means everything. You want to find an OCD slalom nut who is selling his boat only because he wants a zero off boat. If he won't let you help wipe it down because you're not doing it correctly that's a good sign.
  17. That looks less close than the view I saw but still unbelievable skiing.
  18. I saw the video of this that's on Facebook and it looks like he came pretty close. So he's tied the world record three times in the last month? Incredible! He's unbeatable right now!
  19. @Than_Bogan why would a skier at my level spend big $ on a ski? Well I can promise that I care just as much about an extra buoy, pass whatever as more elite skiers- I have video to prove how happy I get about a new PB. so if spending money would help me obtain it I'll spend the $. If you tell me I should ski on a 2x4 if I want to pick up an extra pass I'll probably go to Lowes over lunch. Having said that I'm certain my ski isn't holding me back and now that I'm speeding the boat up I can tell the ski is working better for me so maybe I should have stayed on the dunce ski a little longer.
  20. well I'm not getting better quickly- but I am getting better and I'm having a ton of fun doing it. I'm trying not to improve so rapidly that I use up all of my personal bests before I turn 40! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcemecsSrTI
  21. we have zebra mussels at our ski lake which is a gravel pit and they're not too much of a problem. They actually clear the water up quite a bit which fishermen don't like but for us it's kind of nice. The only downside I've noticed is we have to wear gloves when pulling up the course boom arms because they cut the snot out of your hands but they don't seem to like the sandy areas so they're not a problem at the beach. I always thought if I built my own lake I might put some in there on purpose. They're in nearly every public lake around here and the only people who seem to mind are the fisherman.
  22. @horton time for a 3 leg cat kilo Kai buoy comparison video!
  23. @brady I'm here to prove running over a buoy can put the hurt on even at beginner speeds. One of the scariest falls I've had was when I first started on the course and came in narrow on 3 ball at 28 mph.
  24. a little more stoke for you. Both my older boys have been skiing on the boom for a while, yesterday they decided to try the rope- and here's the result. I was so busy pulling kids all day yesterday I ended up skiing by the light of the supermoon. @krlee your former boat is having a great summer so far! Both boys are BEGGING to go skiing again today.
  25. I will add that spending the day at a ski site beats the pants off of spending the day at a soccer or baseball field. I'm not sure how we got to the point where it's normal for parents to spend every weekend during summer watching kids play ball but it's a problem for kids and wives to watch their pops lay it down a the lake a few weekends a year. I've established a strict "no summer weekend ball" policy at the crashman house. That's ski time for the entire family. Fortunately my wife is getting hooked on buoys and hopefully my boys do too.
