I need to order another pair of vice gloves.......I currently have the white ones in XL....after reading this thread I am thinking I need to order the new black ones in 2XL? Anyone have first hand experience?
The guy in the video had a serious separation between hip and handle........maybe they should tweak the system and add another line strapping the hips to the handle
Search for "porpoise" on this forum, some good info in other threads on this, I had the same problem a couple of years ago and my fin was out of spec, adjusted it and ski was transformed! Listen to @SkiJay he helped me out tremendously
I gotta say I am totally stoked for this Wednesday night beer league, and have already started training for it....I am starting light at only 2 IPA's per day but plan to ramp up the quantity and frequency over time so I peak when the tourneys start!
On Honeoye I would recommend hooking up with Dave Boyers, not a professional coach but if you are just starting out course skiing you can learn a lot from him, he has a portable course now as they lost the permit for the permanent course a couple of years back (bummer).
Also you are welcome to ski with our group on Conesus Lake, we set a portable course most weekend mornings at sunrise.
Another option you may want to consider is joining Aqua Sno (Irondequoit Bay Ski Club)
PM me anytime
GREAT thread! Especially the part about "middle hole" for the front boot, I submit to you there are ALOT of skis out there with the front boot off spec. Even if beginners don't have calipers or a desire to check/ adjust their fin EVERYONE has a tape measure and can get their front boot mounted to spec.
Thanks for the feedback guys, I will plan to check out a pair and see how they fit......great excuse to head to O town for a ski weekend and stop at Performance Ski!
@Eddie_Roberts_Jr are there any plans to offer a larger size vapor boot? I just purchased my second pair of vectors last year (which I love) but had wanted to upgrade to the vapors only my feet are size 15 and I had to stay with the open toe. I think the current size maxxes out at 12-13, of course my ski buddies told me to just cut the toe off the vapor boot! ;)
@web is the one that recommended a cantilever style to me and I couldn't be happier, I will also +1 the 2x12 PT skis bolted to the foot plates, makes it SO easy to move
@rodltg2 I was in your position last year and posted here for advice (you can search for "boat hoist recommendation" and find the thread....I would have provided a link but don't know how to do short links and am afraid of @horton's wrath ;) ) anyway i got a lot of great feedback and ended up with a Sunstream hydraulic cantilever lift and couldn't be happier (pretty much the same thing as the Basta unit). I found it used with only a couple of seasons of use on it.
I was intrigued by the idea of the cantilever style as when they are in the up position all the load is on the structure and they are not reliant upon cables which can wear and have to be replaced periodically.
If you are looking for a less costly option I would still recommend a manual cantilever style like the Hewitt unit (or whatever is available in your area)
One caveat about the cantilever style is its fixed range of motion and if your lake level fluctuates greatly you may be better served by a vertical style lift.
My $.02, I hope this helps
Hey @Keukaskier , we have a portable course that we put in conesus lake often and my ski partner @web has a portable on Keuka as well.
I will PM you, but would be happy to get you into course skiing this year.
Warning: skiing a slalom course can be dangerous to your pride!
Just spitballing here but, I would think one of the things we feel when skiing in cold water is the difference in the ski itself being cold and reacting/ flexing differently than when it is warm? I would think it would be stiffer/ faster feeling when cold?
A buddy of mine was in the "Original Glen Plake's" group when he passed his level 3 PSIA (Professional Ski Instructor of America) exam (Eastern Division)....not an easy thing to do....Plake still rock's on snow ski's
Thank you @skierjp that is the direction I was leaning......what happens to the front arms when it is stored/ folded to the rear? do they have clips to store them or do they just flop loose?
@pgmoore, I am in the market for a bimini top and tower biminis look sweet, do you have straps front and rear, strap front only, or all rigid pipe style? which do you recommend and why? This is a christmas gift for my wife!
