Darwin and I had a long talk today about the politics of the sport. One the things we talked about is if the average skier follows Elite skiing. Please try to answer the new poll without using Google.

Then try to find the answer on Google….

@mylemsky I removed the answer from your post because I want to know how many readers know. Giving the answer kills the experiment.

Maybe. One thing at a time. There is a method to my madness.

Has anyone tried to find the answer with Google? How long did it take?

I just found the winners but I still can not find the score sheet from the whole event.

Wow, that was damn hard to find. And not only that but:

a) I was wrong.

b) I really thought I was right, which is arguably even worse than just being wrong.

c) Even after having "found" the answer, I'm not quite 100% sure I have the *current* champion.

There is a lesson to be taken from how hard it was to find that info.

I spent DAYS fact checking my 2011 year and review and I totally expect there is some huge error in there somewhere.

It is really hard to be a fan and .... maybe most Ballers are not really interested in Elite news.

So I poked around a little more this morning and it now seems I WAS right. But I could only find it by googling the name of my pick directly, and even that didn't get me to the info all that quickly.

Apparently, the site I found yesterday that was actually announcing the World Overall Champion was at least a year old.

Safe to say this is not well covered on the internet!

AND, I should mention how I knew, because I wonder if it's the top reason that anyone did:

During coverage of a Diablo event this year, YOU mentioned it.

Without that, I'm not sure I would have even recognized the name, much less been semi-confident that he was the world overall champ.

The point was .... Darwin and I were talking about how most skiers in the USA do not really pay attention to the Elite International events. Even though a lot of you got it right I still do not think the average Baller/USAWS members follows it

USAWS site is fairly easy to navigate these things. I went to the IWSF site and I couldn't find the information on the current world champ, check it out, terribly set up website. I think the guys I ski with pay more attention than most, and I think I pay more attention than the average baller (I got it wrong by the way, but I did know the US Open Men overall champ, haha). But the IWSF and USA Waterski need to help the average member realize this sport is huge world wide.

In my youth Overall was "everything". I remember Suyderhound, Kempton, McCormick, Hazelwood to name a few. Mike Suyderhound even had a Wheaties TV commercial. As I remember the Slalom specialists kind of began with Kris Lapoint, Doug Morrison and some others into 38 off on those wooden boards.

New world rankings just came out. Things changed at the men's top overall a bit. A name with more press now - the North American bias. Congratulations to Canada and Argentina. The USA needs a good overall focus if we want top overall skiers. At least our women take care of things.

KLP was a reasonable overall skier until he got hurt if I remember. BLP was also a reasonable overall skier.

Of course there were other specialists in the old days - Mike Wendt, Bob Bernstein and Bob Haroff who only tricked!
