Baller RazorRoss3 Posted July 14, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 14, 2016 Holy $h!t yes! I got a call this afternoon and have been offered a portfolio manager position with Wells Fargo in Austin, TX that I will be accepting tomorrow afternoon after I look over the paper work. I am super pumped to have been able to take advantage of this opportunity. Huge (yuge?) thank you to my parents @Razorskier1 and Susan Ross for all of their support* especially this past year of working contract positions and starting to get really down on myself. It feels great to see the hard work I've put in paying my dues this past year pay off in such a big way. All of that said... I know there are Austin Ballers on here and I would greatly appreciate any advice on where I should look for things like you know, a place to live for starters. I don't really have any connections at all down there so any help that can be offered to help me get my bearing would be awesome. Also, as mentioned in other discussions, I'm a pretty good driver (if I can pull @Razorskier1 and @6balls in a straight line I can pull anyone) and will definitely be looking for ski partners. *support: putting me through college, giving me place to live this past year of working contracting rolls, room and board this past year, being awesome ski partners for the past 10 years, and overall for being the two best people a guy could ask to have in his corner. Thanks Mom and Dad, Love you guys

Baller RazorRoss3 Posted July 14, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted July 14, 2016 @wish Yeah, now that my monetary and geographical concerns have been dramatically dampened I think I'll be at that for sure. Thanks @MattP, definitely going to be an adventure. I don't think I'll miss snow though.

Baller 6balls Posted July 15, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 15, 2016 Awesome Mitch! Patience pays off sometimes. Now go work hard and kick some butt down there this is just the beginning.
kfennell
Where exactly will you be working? If it's downtown it limits where you can ski, if its otherwise you have more options.
Baller_ Bruce_Butterfield Posted July 15, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted July 15, 2016 The good news is there is a trailer down by the river for rent. The bad news is that in Austin, the trailer by the river rents for $3000/month Seriously, you are in a good spot. Several good sites and you are in the money! If it was easy, they would call it Wakeboarding

Baller Razorskier1 Posted July 15, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 15, 2016 He's a great person, driver, coach and skier! Heck now that he is down there he might become a senior driver sometime. He's pulled quite a few great skiers and has gotten great reviews every time. Can't wait to visit for the Austin BOS!
Baller RazorRoss3 Posted July 15, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted July 15, 2016 and to add to the above, I'm also a half decent coach and will gladly contribute any combination of gas, money, and the beverage of choice to any/all ski partners. I'll be brining my "Minnesota nice" to Austin with me. Just found out my start date is 8/8 so about 3.5 weeks to pack, plan, and celebrate! Baller_ Wish Posted July 15, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted July 15, 2016 Sales and or politics could be a good back up for you. Way to sell yourself. Heck, I want you to move to FL...

Baller RazorRoss3 Posted July 15, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted July 15, 2016 @wish, maybe... But hopefully not (to sales and politics) Florida was on my short list for places I'd like to move, but unlike Texas, they didn't offer me a job. Baller ToddL Posted July 15, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 15, 2016 We'll let @RazorRoss3 and any other good coaches/boat drivers/skiers in, but be sure to tell your non-skiing friends that..

ThomasAlive
That's great! We moved to Austin 2 years ago and have enjoyed every day here so far. Great ski club here, too. Let me know if you have any questions. We live up in Lake Travis and love that area but it is a bit far from private water.
Baller RazorRoss3 Posted July 15, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted July 15, 2016 @Thomasalive, I have skied at 6:00 in the morning on public water my whole life, straight through high school, college, and the jobs I've had in Minnesota this past year. If the public water has a course on it that's all I need.
ThomasAlive
We're usually out on Travis at 6:30 am. No public course on Travis or Lake Austin. The water level on Travis fluctuates but Lake Austin is constant level but unfortunately no one currently has a course installed. Early morning trick sets on Travis are primo :)
Baller RazorRoss3 Posted July 15, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted July 15, 2016 With year round skiing potential, it is possible a dedicate some time to trick going forwards. I can currently put up all of 800 some points on my D3 rubber edge.
Baller Kelvin Posted July 15, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 15, 2016 @RazorRoss3 "year round skiing"?? You're starting to sound like a Canadian :)
Baller RazorRoss3 Posted July 15, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted July 15, 2016 @Kelvin, have you ever been to Minnesota? on an annual basis determine the beginning and end of my season based whether the water is in liquid or solid state. Assuming the ice never comes in in Austin, and that I can find a driver, I will gladly ski on Christmas day.
Baller BrennanKMN Posted July 15, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 15, 2016 Awesome man! Best of luck on your future endeavors. Too bad we were never able to ski together, you could have taught me a lesson or two.
Baller jimbrake Posted July 15, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 15, 2016 Ok, now that you know where you're goin', first thing you do when you get to town is, go straight to the biggest, most popular gym. Put as many 45s on a bar as you can get, bench that sucker and drop it back on the rack. Then (and this is key), walk straight up to biggest dude in the gym and punch him square in the mouth. Then, and this is also key, grab the purtiest girl there and give her a big 'ol kiss. Give the room a once-over, what for, and walk out. You're good to go then. Baller gregy Posted July 15, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 15, 2016 @parkerc2112 and I skied more over the winter than we are now. Never even got the drysuit out. Wet suit only. If we get ice its usually gone in a day or so, whole city just about shuts down on ice days because they have almost no equipment to deal with it. Baller Kelvin Posted July 16, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 16, 2016 @RazorRoss3 I live near Houston and have several neighbors from Canada. They will ski all winter, some without wetsuits or dry suits. Also, we never have ice this far south.
Baller 6balls Posted July 16, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 16, 2016 @jimbrake I've got video of @razorross3 benchin' 505 lbs at a body weight of about 190. Geez he's a blackbelt, too ( you meet him and you won't guess either of these things). My buddy Gavin sent a note that he knows a number of places Mitch could be a bouncer after hours if needing some moonlighting cash! That aside...first-rate driver and promising skier with an entire M2 career to mess around...though now work is about to get in the way

Baller RazorRoss3 Posted July 16, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted July 16, 2016 Thanks everyone, @jimbrake, that sounds like it's out of a movie. @6balls, minor thing, body weight was closer to 180 at the time. But yes, By looks alone I don't look like I have any business doing most of the stuff I can.
Baller Razorskier1 Posted August 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted August 8, 2016 The ski bum is officially moved! Baller ForrestGump Posted August 9, 2016 Baller Share Posted August 9, 2016 Congratulations, Mitch! Austin is an awesome place to spend your 20s in. With the exception of the Travis County Jail. Stay away from that place. They are NOT friendly there.
