@Mateo_Vargas, the rope length needs to be 9.25 meters. At that length in the course, you would obviously be Superman and would only need to worry about Kryptonite.

The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.

I hope I don’t have to drive home from Colorado tomorrow. This travel ban really sucks. I was really looking forward to skiing with Freddie Winter and @skialex at @theboardingschool next week. Being that Freddie is a resident, I’m pretty sure he can get back but, man, that boy’s luck with Australia travel! I’m really wondering what it does for Alex coming from Greece. Good luck Alex, I really hope we get to ski together

The silver lining to this mass hysteria is it will finally show the company I work for that work from home is a good thing and employees can be productive, which when the dust settles will lead to a permanent WFH policy so I can spend more time at the lake!

How can one definitively establish an accurate mortality rate without knowing total number infected (which is unknow because potentially infected people can show no or mild symptoms)? At this point, the mortality rate is nothing more than an estimate...

Quarantined is my dream, gas is cheap, lake out the back door, water is 70 and warming up daily, air is 87 during the day and the wind has finally subsided. I skied yesterday 2 buoys shy of my PB back to back Hell Yeah!!!

@markn same can be said for the flu. Probably all of us have had it at least a few times and speaking from personal experience I've never saught any treatment.

@mfjaegersr ignorant comment. You obviously didn't listen.

630 dead in Italy with 10,000 cases and rising. ICU rates are incredibly high. H over 80 be has a double digit death rate. Hospitals will be overwhelmed, that is the biggest concern. There are not enough beds, ICU or ventilators for those with resp. Failure.

This is very serious especially for older people. Far more deadly than the flu, which we have a vaccine for. Will be at least 1-2 years for a vaccine here.

There are 2 ways not to approach something like this; ignoring the severity and mass hysteria.

Shutting down public events is the right move because that is the only way to stop it from spreading.

Closed down 1 of my jobs today. I see another ending in the next few days and I already work from home for my full time position a few days a week. If that moves to full time from home I’ll be working from the lake in FL. Collegiate season is up in the air right now but I’m optimistic at the moment.

I was busy packing the SUV for the trip to Orlando at first light. Mother-in-law and aunt are staying with the toddler so my wife’s aunt walks into the garage while I’m loading and says, “the news just said Disney World is closed”. With all Disney’s auto-email capability they still haven’t told me anything.

Looks like that lesson at TBS is out now too. I’m trying to convince my wife it’s worth going for only 1 day in the park. I’ve already lost that battle.

We’re only in the beginning of this thing.

I wonder if this will impact any waterski events such as pro tournaments coming up soon or the US Nationals (due to volume of people). It may prevent some European skiers from easily getting to the US for events such as the Swiss Pro, the night jump at Bennett's or US Masters depending on the length of the travel ban and which countries are included...

@aupatking we’re scheduled for a conference and parks at Disney World in June. I’m starting to wonder if it will happen. As far as notifications, here is what the Disney App does now when you launch it.

@UWSkier not trying to offend you but statements like that are what make people get panicky for no reason, that report your citing was based on 12 patients, not stipulating anything with age, any preconditions or any depth...and what legit medical documentation would stipulate a figure of 20-30%, seriously???

This is why the world is in a massive panic attack for very poor reasons, weak BS being used as tool to instill fear in the masses

Sorry just super frustrated overall this BS

I would say they are all true. I just opened the news and I can count at least 10 stories that are not true or very stretched.

If we could actually trust the people that are supposed to be helping to protect us (media) we would have a chance. The world has changed 100% from this point on

Regardless of over-reaction or not, which we cannot control, we have to make decisions. My family was scheduled for Grand Cayman to leave one week from tomorrow, and I decided to speak to a friend who is an infectious disease specialist physician.

His response was brief: Don't go. The president declared a national emergency, don't leave the country. Once a national emergency is declared, anything can happen and it's not predictable.

I believe his response to be based on the larger situation well out of our control rather than my chances of getting sick in Cayman. I'm a doc locally...I'm sure I'll get exposed here at some point. I love the idea of Cayman but can't afford to be stuck there indefinitely.

Now is the time for our sport to package the Pro tournaments and allow ESPN to fill some open slots. Our sport naturally allows social distancing and it would be great to get some captured exposure.

I have just read a few posts from this discussion. While I understand that it started as a "sh*t, now I can't ski because of this", I would invite everyone to take this problem seriously.

Do as the doctors and experts are recommending, and if you are struggling to understand why all these precautions are going to be in place (as if what is happening in other countries doesn't touch you), think of people who you hold dear that are more vulnerable.

The situation is hard in Italy.

I was scheduled to fly back in three days but, not surprisingly, all has been cancelled. I speak to family and friends in quarantine, and while you can feel the gloominess that results from how dull life is in a full lockdown, the VAST VAST majority of people (always the stupid odd ball here and there) is abiding. The sense of civic respect that fuels this should be inspiring to other countries, regardless of whether these countries adopt quarantine and lockdown strategies.

The psychological aspect of quarantine can also be difficult. If you know someone who is in quarantine, whether mandated or self-imposed, reach out. FaceTime them and show them you care.

It is now down to us to be precautionary. Even if it means we have to change our lifestyle.

@jcamp really? take a look at the press politicizing / weaponizing everything about this very tough issue. They care much less about truth and real people with real lives, its full on say anything destruction.
