  1. Lost a drop ski one summer night right at dusk. Looked all over the next day and many more after that, never found it that season. About 5 years later we found it at one of the neighbors garage sale, all beat up and faded, he didn't even charge us. Put a new binder on it, still using it occasionally.
  2. Went Cross country skiing by headlamp Tuesday pm on 10 plus inches of new snow, 18 degrees, nice fast snow. It was 64 at noon today(snow all gone) but the boat is winterized and stored.
  3. Hi Guys, Thanks for all the good advice. Looks like a possibility but not til spring since I already stored the boat for the winter. Looks like the surge brake system may need some modification also? Before I even pulled this up this am I got a text from a fellow tournament skier who thinks he may be able to do the change over.
  4. This might sound crazy and I think I know the answer already but: Is there a way that anyone knows of to convert a fixed tongue trailer to a folding one? Have a fixed tongue 2009 Performance for a 2009 196 Nautique and it is about a foot to long to fit in the garage, even with the teak removed.
  5. @oldjeep Time to break out the Cross country skiis anyway
  6. Skiing with bad back? Quit chasing buoys and free ski if you have access to a lake. Never have to worry about getting pulled over the bars or taking the big slack hit trying to get that one more buoy.
  7. If you have Insurance then definitely let them determine if this is a total loss. Better to just get a new or new to you boat with the proceeds. Future head aches avoided with electrical issues.
  8. @lpskier I don't know John, that looks like faux wool, need the real thing up here. Especially in my town.
  9. @wawaskr Just re read the thread and realized that I mistakenly said the pain was in my left hip, it was actually the right hip. Everything else is accurate, and I am LFF skier but use a goofy handle grip, left palm up, which probably has nothing to do with the hip issue. I never went to a doctor so no diagnosis. Like I said, took about 3 months to ski pain free. No pain at all this season, knock wood.
  10. Impressive, humbling and kind of depressing for all of us mere mortals out there.
  11. Ditto all the other comments about dragging the leg as a rudder. I started many eons ago behind old underpowered outboards by dragging the leg behind. Went to double high wraps for many years and back to RTP. One leg starts are much easier on the lower back, at least that is my experience.
  12. Makes me feel really good to see 196s pricing these days. Bought an 09 w 500 hrs, like new condition for many $$$S less 2 years ago. Based on all the other 196s I see on SIA w Zero Off(which is not many) I'm sure I could sell mine for at least what I paid if not more.
  13. I've got a lime green Connelly Concept from the early 90s I could let go cheap, even that would be and upgrade from the Shortline which I also skied on ages ago.
  14. looks like the precursor to a Wakeboard.
  15. Lake 49, todays high maybe 43. predicted low of 20 tonight w snow tomorrow. highs in the 30s both weekend days. No skiing soon. Highs in the 40s through mid week. Ugh!
  16. Just wondering about the safety issues with only a driver in the boat. With a serious skier crash I think that might be an issue. Insurance may have a say in it from a Liability perspective.
  17. Couse on public water. Sits unused most days, I am the only one who skis it 99.9% of the time. It is subject to boat traffic but that is usually a non issue. Never a wait in the past 10 years. I use it less all the time, wish there was another skier(course) on the lake. I actually end up free skiing more lately.
  18. @jimbrake, How about Mr GShttps://image.cnbcfm.com/api/v1/image/105008643-Ted-Ligety-training-in-Alta-Badia-Italy-shortly-before-the-Olympics--Photo-by-Luca-Crivelli.jpg?v=1529477503&w=678&h=381
  19. Late summer and not officially winter, early spring but you get the winter idea.
  20. Lake is a "solid" 32 which is quite early even for the Adirondacks. And my last ski was less than 4 weeks ago in a shorty wetsuit.
  21. @jpattigr & @jercrane I love both snow and water. Baldface, Retallack, Kicking Horse, Red, Whitewater, Panorama, Whistler all incredible. Nothing like deep pow or skiing steeps where the slough is running down ahead of you. I with @jercrane, east coast average resort day is pretty bland. Nothing like smooth glass for miles free skiing or running your toughest pass in a tournament. But hypothetically, if you had to choose between one or the other forever and you could retain your youthful physical abilities, which one wins out? For me it would be snow skiing hands down.
  22. 49 at my dock today but boat has been out for a week and winterized & besides that we are out of tolerance for the 100 rule. 45 air and 49 water= 94
  23. @lpskier You nudged me out by a hair. I got 31 sets in by the end of August. But also injured my back so I got you there. But you also ran twice as many tournament 35s as me. So all in all an average year. Maybe I can edge you out on snow ski days if you stay in FL.
  24. @Martin The boat you are looking for is hard to find. I lucked out and bought an 09 196 last year w just under 500hrs, showroom condition. It was posted on SIA on a Friday, I didn't see it til Monday and called the owner, said he already had 10 calls on it. Due solely to luck I ended up with it at a price I considered very fair. What I paid is less than most of the 08-09 196s I see listed on SIA now, and many with a lot more hours and not in nearly as nice condtion. Good luck with your search, keep looking and if you see one that looks good, don't waste any time contacting the seller. I think there are a lot of people looking for that same thing as you are.
