  1. I was shocked that there was no entry fee for spectators. What other sport can you go to a world class event like this and get in for free?
  2. This was my first day ever at a pro tournament. Took my oldest daughter. What a blast! The skiing was great and the tension was palpable during that men's runoff for third. I was sitting right across from where that first photo from @lpskier was taken. Brie skied great. We coincidentally sat at the cutout in the middle of the course. Most of the skiers made their way out right in front of us. Extra entertaining to see them all meet their friends and families as they exited. Regina was emotional. What an amazing story.
  3. Two courses on Lake Ola. I've been considering a house that's for sale on that lake. Very little action on that lake with no public access.
  4. @Cam I've been the recipient of Jodi's expert weaving. He uses it as a teaching tool as Horton has described. It can give you the feel of the rhythm in the course and is a great confidence booster.
  5. One of the best episodes I've heard. Even a novice like me got a lot out of that one.
  6. Great video!! Good use of many different techniques and vantage points.
  7. Tough to know without looking in your ear. Was the ENT certain that you did not rupture your ear drum? Was any hearing testing performed? I have seen barotrauma like this cause hearing loss which can give a sense of ear fullness. I have also seen ruptured blood vessels on the ear drum with this type of injury which would mimic the "bruised" appearance and give fullness. Best advice is to keep your ear strictly dry until you are seen by the folks at Mass Eye and Ear. They are pretty good and should be able to sort this out for you.
  8. Sad for me to see that McCormicks cable park and ski lake are for sale. Michael has been a great teacher for me and my daughters as we've started to learn how to ski the course over the past 2 years. This will be a major loss for us here in the Tampa Bay area. Looks like Drew Ross has the listing. I do hope someone takes over and can keep up the quality instruction we've received.
  9. No ear plug, vented or not, will prevent you from rupturing your ear drum with a direct hit. I merely mentioned my use of custom fitted ear plugs since I have a chronic perforation in one ear and a mastoid cavity in the other. I do my best to keep all water out for fear of infection.
  10. This is just a few homes on a 45 acre lake. Hard to imagine some like minded skiers cannot work this out amongst themselves. The thought of removing the course breaks my heart.
  11. This kind of story gives me a bad feeling since I'm actively looking to buy a house on a lake in central florida for skiing. It really stinks that you have this home with a longstanding course which is now in jeopardy due to the actions of just one fellow homeowner. Resist having that course pulled up and see if you can talk some sense into the guy who is running his business venture on your shared residential lake. I was persuaded to avoid buying a home on a lake in Winter Haven by two fellow homeowners. Seems a new owner was starting a ski school on their lake and traffic through the courses was out of control. One of them actually decided to move away to another lake just because their skiing access was ruined.
  12. @ScottScott that's the problem with these swim plugs. The do reduce sound by about 25dB. That's the trade off for solid water protection. When I really want to make sure I'm watertight, I will even add a thin layer of vaseline to my custom plugs. This makes them even more sound cancelling. Biggest issue for me is when I'm taking a lesson and the instructor is giving me pointers. I can still hear Jodi's whistles at me when I'm skiing, but it can be hard just hearing a normal voice in between runs.
  13. @Hucklefin I ski with custom fitted swim molds due to my longstanding ear disease with a hole in one eardrum and a mastoid cavity on the other. They work pretty well for me. My audiologist makes them for $70.
  14. @LoopSki you would be surprised how many patients I see that try that remedy after water trauma. Some say they had to be scraped off the ceiling.
  15. Ear doctor/waterskier here. Please get your ear looked at by a physician. Assume you have ruptured you eardrum until proven otherwise. You must keep all water out of your ear. Do not let them flush your ear if they cannot visualize your eardrum. I hope you're OK. Could just be some water stuck behind wax pressed up against your eardrum from the force of the fall.
  16. Yes, not just a great sponsor of this site, but also a great place to buy gear from knowledgeable and service oriented people!
  17. Great looking boat! No mention of hours that I can find on that ad.
  18. What skis are you on? I've seen some beginner skis with a nearly flat bottom. These don't track very well and can certainly lead to the wobble you describe. Make sure the skis have some concavity to the bottom. Tunnel concavity is usually best for beginners.
  19. @Broussard is this boat currently in Orlando and available for viewing? Will the auction winner be able to take possession when the auction ends?
  20. WOW!! Awesome idea and great charity. Any idea on the list price of a comparable boat if one was available?
  21. looks really windy there today. Hopefully it calms down for the finals tomorrow.
  22. Was your friend piloting the drone from the boat? I find that can be quite challenging.
