  1. Bad wakes on unmodified boats.
  2. Worst boat MC ever made. However if you can find one that was modified by the MC pit crew (wings and a lip on the backend) it might be Ok. But I remember a handful of them being driven on shore. Dangerous boat for the inexperienced.
  3. Do the overall scores come from prelims, finals or some crazy combination of the 2? Anybody know?

  5. This would be where Ed Brazil tells us when and how it went from imperial to metric, I'm pretty sure it started in feet and went to metric to adapt for international competition. The metric system is pretty user friendly for water skiing.
  6. @OldGuysRule both lakes are fine other than about 2'-3' too high with nowhere to drain to.
  7. Here in South Carolina there's lots of new temporary waterfront property, unfortunately there's a lot of misery to go with it. Won't be skiing for a little while.
  8. I'm assuming the lime green basket looking contraption along the bottom of the boot is the release mechanism, and the whole boot comes off...but that's just a guess.
  9. @OB1 if I understand correctly, you had to line up each individual line to the buoy? We used a 2" PVC pipe and measured out the boat guides and the turn buoy on the length of the PVC pipe. We drilled and installed stainless eye bolts at each attachment point. Line up one buoy on the intended line and all 3 (boat guides and turn buoy) are all the correct spacing. This way there is only 1 sight line down the lake (except for the gates). It would be interesting to see all the different methods for a cross line course.
  10. I'm a big fan of crossline courses, especially on a site like that.
  11. I drove for Andy 1 time in my life, I believe it was 2003 late in the ski season. We had a "C" tournament on one lake and a simultaneous "R" tournament on an adjacent lake. Our "R" tournaments in the early 2000s were like Pro Events. We would have 10 or 15 of the Top 20 in the world rankings in our fall events. This particular tournament Andy showed up...not for him but for his son @mike_mapple (Andy was not intending to ski, plus we have the wrong boats). We have this idea to get Andy to ski the "C" event in Mens 3 at 34 (he wasn't that hard to convince). At this point, I had driven for most of the top guys except for Andy, Jeff, and Wade at one time or another. So I'm driving Mens 3 and Andy shows up on the starting dock (he was still at the top of the slalom world at this time, but had not skied in 6 weeks according to him). We're using perfect pass and I add a bunch of RPMs because it's Andy and I figure he's going to add more load than anyone on the planet. So we run the opener and the first thing I notice is that he loads from wider than anyone I had ever driven. We get to the end and it's still on the slow side so I jack more RPMs into the perfect pass and we go and do it again. This happens over and over until we're at -41. Now at this point I know nobody has run 41 at 34 in a tournament, not even close. The funny thing I still remember about that pass was his patience in the turn, me thinking he was done to suddenly feeling him rocket to the other side. He runs that and then 2 at -43. I looked to the shore and everyone who was in the R tournament had abandoned that side and came over to watch Andy ski 34. I had ridden in the boat when Andy skied in other tournaments and you could tell he was a focused skier, this particular day he was very chatty and seemed to really enjoy the ride. Later in the day he runs 4 at -43 behind Dana Reed.... I wish Andy and Dana were here to describe it.
  12. Do not buy a 1998 Mastercraft unless the hull has been severely modified by someone who knows what they are doing. I have seen some of the best drivers put them on shore and wakes are terrible. I think the 99s and 00s are better but they pretty much had to be. 2001 is when they seemed to have gotten back on track.
  13. My brother bought a 14' Glassmaster with a 70 HP Evinrude that we learned to ski behind in salt water creeks. I would ski behind anything/anywhere if I got the chance. In 1979 a friend of mine offered a chance to go to the Master's, it was the first time I saw someone ski a slalom course or hit a jump. I was someone hooked at that point but still didn't have any access. A few years later I was part of a group that built a jump. So I spent months building a jump, bought jump skis and equipment before I ever even went over a jump. Then 30 years went by and I'm kind of still doing it.
  14. If it's going to be a Mastercraft, make damn sure sure it's not a 1998 model. You could die in that thing. The worst slalom boat ever...unless you get the one we had that all kinds of wings/bondo added by the factory people that made it mildly serviceable.
  15. I think that's one I have. I use it for water temps in the 60s.
  16. mid 60s? Those sound like late winter temps to me. Ours right now is 95ish.
  17. Lucky came to a tournament of ours one time and had a pile of them (maybe 6 or 10 in a pile), he said he had to replace them when they broke down. I asked him how often they broke down and his reply was "every time I run 39 on one".
  18. @Sherwood, no cad file. I just made it to fit the ski I was trying. Brought it in from the ski edges about 1/4", made it a couple inches longer than my plate + the release units, bought a couple of new release units from Terrence. The first try, my release units were too far apart and I ejected through the first gate shot. I have filled those holes in with JB Weld and haven't drilled the new ones yet, but will probably try it this weekend.
