  1. Eric, that is their side of the story. Of course, there are two sides. That situation is the subject of the second of three protests that were filed. There are procedures for a disqualification. Not sure they were followed along with pressure put on a mom with a 3yr old daughter waiting to ski. Doesn't sound like a great situation. They certainly do not consider it a favor. You don't need an interpretation to allow the ski setup. Innocent until proven guilty. There is no rule stating two skis cannot be tied together. Not to mention precedence from last year.
  2. Not at all, but it is blinding for our night skiing - even in night mode. I'd like to see a dimmer switch, or turn it off.
  3. I have not heard of any failures either on the 200 LINC. Look at it this way, far fewer moving parts. Yes, the replacement cost would be expensive, but since it is solid state so I bet it is pretty reliable.
  4. Thanks again for all the comments. Cameron's grandfather, Steve has been following with great interest. He typed a nice response to each of your posts. May be too much to put in here, but I can assure you he had nice things to say about everyone! Steve is one of the most stand up guys you will ever meet. He also knows (and probably help write) the rules better than just about anyone. If I have a question about a rule, I go to him. When we started having tournaments at our lake, Steve was first on my invite list. I knew, if he was there, there would be no question the rules were followed. He and I agree, we have heard several opinions on whether it should be allowed or not. What we have not heard is a specific rule that was broken. Obviously, it is two skis. The question is about tying two skis together (either with rope or bars). The current rule book does not address this issue. If they don't want two ski's tied together, they should put it in the rule book. However, that should not effect the 2010 girl or Cameron. He also sent me an update last night on Cameron. She is still excited about skiing and is on one now! Instead of the TWO she was on above (haha). She has passed the combo setup to her brother! http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/clemsondave/Other/CameronTrickSki2011.jpg
  5. I think it is a step in the right direction. I'd like to see ZO integrated (CC almost had it for 2012). I'd love if it could be customized. Like position of certain data, font sizes, etc.
  6. We are fortunate enough to live near a nuclear power plant lake. We have a course right where the warm water is discharged! ...no, we don't glow green yet. I plan on skiing once a week or so this year. Also plan to make several trips to Okee. I also spend 6-7 days/week in the gym. I don't do a ton of lower back exercises (mainly just hyper-extensions), but I do work all the ab muscles quite a bit which has helped my back.
  7. ntx, this is not my daughter. Just a friend. I was the chief judge at the local tournament and my interpretation was that is was ok. I think it goes back to what I saw in another thread about discouraging young skiers. This is not a clear cut case either way. I can see both sides. Pretty sure there were some other issues around this situation that were not so clear either. I would hate to be in the position to make this call, but I'm pretty sure I would give the benefit of the doubt to the young skier (in fact, I did). I do not condone 'bending' the rules, but if there is no clear interpretation then I would err on the side of the skier. This is not ignoring a missed gate, running over a buoy or even running a red light ;-) Those things are clearly covered by rules. At 3yrs old, she probably has no concept of all of this. However, there will be a point in time where she looks back or is reminded of what happened. Wouldn't it be better for her to have fond memories and continue the tradition?
  8. Below is a video of the girl from last year. Clearly her ski's are held together with two fixed bars. Her score was deemed valid. http://www.azfamily.com/news/local/3yearoldwaterskiier-100304444.html There is nothing on the bottom of this year's girl's ski's. I appreciate everyone's opinions!
  9. @elr, if you look up the ranking, she is Level 6. That's the requirement for Eastern Regionals. If she broke the rules, then I agree it would be unfair. However, the contention is that no rules were broken. So, as they are written, someone else could ride the same setup.
  10. Her score was posted for 17 hours. It was then removed. Another point of the protest. They were told it was posted in error. However, the rule book clearly states that it cannot be changed after 2 hours. 7.06 Corrected Scoring Errors (Also see Interpretations) A correction of an error in the computation of scores shall not be considered a protest. Such correction shall be made upon the approval of the Chief Judge and the Chief Scorer, if requested within two hours after the results of the event are posted and the judges’ scoring forms are available for inspection. I see what some people are saying. However, there is nothing in the rule book about attaching two skis together. If they want to put something in there, fine. It still should not effect this skier. I have yet to see any current rule she violated. Not that it matters, but she came in last place. So, no one else would have been effected.
  11. Remember, you have only the rules stated in the rule book to go by. I see nothing about attaching two skis together.

  13. Hey fellow judges, let me know how you would rule on this one. Below is a picture of a 3 yr old trick skier. She qualified for Regional's. Placed in the top 5 in the Regional tournament to qualify for the Nationals. Nothing was said at the local or Regional level. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/clemsondave/Other/cameronpics.jpg Here are the pertinent rules: 8.03 Skis (a) Maximum ski width shall not exceed 30% of the length. (b) Any type of fixed foot binding may be used. © Any type of fixed fins may be used. (d) No other devices are permitted, except that devices affixed to the ski intended to control or adjust the skiing characteristics of the ski are allowed as long as they are fixed, in that they do not move or change during actual skiing. (e) With all bindings, fins, etc. installed, the ski must float. (f) Skis in the Tricks event shall not have fins. Trick skis with molded rails/groove less than 1/4" are acceptable. So, my questions... How many ski's do you see above? Do you see that any of the rules were violated? I mean no disrespect to the governing bodies, but I do disagree with their findings. I'm curious to see what ya'll think. This is a long story which includes, in my mind, many problems. However, I'd like to see what you think about the main point of dispute.
  14. My guess - 1993 Malibu Echelon

  16. Epicenter was about 20 miles from my house and about 6 miles from the power plant lake we ski on in the winter. Wasn't big compared to others around the world, but very big for east coast.
  17. I was on a Mid last year and a Nano Mid this year. In my mind, it is more than hype. Now last year's ski was too short for me, but I can feel this Nano is better in many ways. Mainly, my on-side is amazing. I have run more 38s than I ever have and I've only been skiing about month injury free. Is it worth $2k? Probably not, but I'm happy with it. It may be a coincidence, but this ski is more durable than my last year's Mid. That Mid, every time I touched it, it left a mark. The Nano is not as durable as say a D3, but it is much better than last years.
  18. It may not be close to stock settings, but it sure works where ever it's at! Don't know about Shane, but I'm afraid to measure it. What's if it's way off? I don't want to be tempted to move it. ;-) Shane, what color did you get?
  19. Yep. I've had my Nano for several months now. Have yet to measure the fin or wing. Congrats!
  20. I don't ski there, but there are a couple courses. Send me an email and I'll send you a contact. clemsontigerdave AT yahoo DOT com
  21. I think CC recommends the 6L if over 5k ft so you're close. Many think ZO feels better with the 6L because the RPM variance is smaller. It can hold the speed without having to ramp up as much. Hole shot is VERY close from the 196 to the 200. It really is not that much bigger and it has a more efficient hull. Even with the OB, you have storage under the bow. I could fit 2-3 skis under there. Combine that with 1-2 for each saddle bag PLUS you have more walk around space. That's why people think this boat is so big. Reality is that it is only 4" wider and 6" longer. It is just layed out much more efficiently. 200 tracks much better. Do you have a promo person in your area? They would be a great resource to see what motor to get.
  22. We used Cutrine Plus this year with good results. Pretty safe product and worked better than the copper sulfate we used last year.
  23. Higher degree on a wing will put more tip of the ski in the water which will allow it to turn more. Having said that, it could be a million other things. I bet 90% of the time, when the ski is not turning it is either technique or people adjusting for the wrong thing. The first thing you want to look at is if he is getting to the buoy wide and early enough. If not, they making it turn harder is not the solution. The fix is to work on technique, the angle through the gate or adjust the fin so that he does get there at the right spot (like moving fin back). If he is getting to the buoy at the correct spot and it still doesn't turn, you can add tip to the fin, add a little wing or adjust the boots. I always adjust the fin and my technique to get the proper angle, course width and early. If I'm at that spot, I can turn almost anything (when I don't screw it up!).
  24. You sure it was his last name? If in the East, Lee Mershon was a Centurion promo for years. He and Rod Barney are now promo for the Carbon Pro here in Va.
  25. Great boat to ski behind. I would not think twice about getting that boat for Regionals. Glad they are making progress, competition is always good. Not enough price difference to even a base 200 to make me switch though.
