  1. The '38 Off' became the 'Stiff' around '83-84ish I'm guessing. I got mine in '85. Bob changed his focus to speed skiing after the Stiff. I'm surprised no one has come up with his ad containing Suzanne Somers, although it would have to be a link, this being a family site and all.
  2. I believe the "2001" became the "38 off" which became the "Stiff". I still have the Stiff which I used for 25 years. Also have a "360" which might be the best ski made for teaching beginners how to slalom.
  3. Very nice! I don't think I've been on water like that in 20 years.
  4. Ski now while there's water!
  5. We're public water folks with no course in the vicinity, so I'm the only dedicated slalom skier in the family. We're usually out with our kids and their friends, so it's a lot of tubing and kneeboarding and possibly teaching them how to ski if they've never done it before.
  6. I never paid attention to this until I ordered a Radar radius handle and rope. Turns out I've been using 12" handles my whole life and don't like this 13". It's new and never used if anyone wants to throw me a couple bones for it. Otherwise it'll go on ebay in the spring.

    Athleticism

Played most sports growing up and was decent at most. Played some college baseball. Like @Chef23, I should have focused more on golf at a younger age instead of having the fantasy of professional baseball. Darn the hindsight!!
  8. We used an Avenger O/B (similar to Sanger barefooter in looks) for 25 years and LOVED it. Smallest, smoothest wake ever, and fun to drive! Sports car on the water.
  9. Back in the early-mid '80's, my buddy had Connelly's top ski, the HP, (which is what Mike Kjellander used at the time) that had no holes. It also had an odd shape to it.
  10. Those hydros are simply awesome.
  11. Bob LaPoint was "the man" when I first got interested in skiing. He and Kris also made it big initially with Maherajah skis. They actually skiid on the river going through Healdsburg, my home town, where Bob Maher had his shop at the time. I've known Bob Maher since I was young, but have never met Bob LaPoint. Would love to hear his stories about those early years of skiing and how the sport grew.
  12. I love watching those things!
  13. Jeff Rogers: "Chuck Norris? Who's she?"
  14. Go gator wrestling, or maybe hunting for pythons. What could possibly go wrong??
  15. I thought chicks dig the big spray?? Seems like a good marketing concept...the "Chick Spray Coefficient." Ski X has a CSC of 8 on a scale of 1-10. No??
  16. Worst summer in many years due to drought. One skiable public lake was closed down by mid-June and the other local lake is horrible for skiing 99.999% of the time. Took the ski on several trips to the lake and ended up pulling the kids on tubes due to sucky water conditions.
  17. It took a couple of days of trial and error to figure out speed, boat path, etc... but I was the boat driver and could get my friend on a kneeboard to get all the way around the boat and continue on without stopping. He took some spectacular spills during the trial and error part! Of note, this was a low profile O/B, similar to a barefoot sanger, sans the windshield.
  18. Direct him to lots of Seth Stisher's videos for whip drills and pull out drills, etc... to get a good foundation.
  19. Hopefully this wasn't the financing for the new lake/home!! Have you made bail @Horton?! http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2014/07/11/bakersfield-police-make-76m-marijuana-bust/
