  1. @lakeo, yes that would be a good way to put it. Im wondering the best body position or movement at apex. When i think of apex a think of CP's massive wall he puts up. :) i try to watch the pros "lean-in" but sometimes its too fast and not the right camera angle to see their body angle. Im trying my best to make sense
  2. @scotchipman, noted. It actually does "start" to make sense when you put it that way. I will be sure to follow up with you when I finally feel that deceleration, etc. Thanks for the insight.
  3. @shaneH , so then the arrow representing my inside hip movement would be the top arrow pointing to the rear of the boat? (from the picture)
  4. I've gotten some advice from various thread contributors about turning a ski. I'm sure most of you mean well but when you tell a beginner not to turn the ski, rather let the ski turn itself......... that makes absolutely no sense. I surely have to do something to help the ski "turn itself". The ski doesn't know when I'm closing in on 1 ball. In one of Gordun Rathbun's archaic yet valuable videos he talks about how to initiate the turn. He simply says almost word for word "Once you feel the the speed of the ski start to die-off, that's when it's time to sort of... fall over" See picture below. If I were to take Gordon's advice literally, and "fall over" towards the wakes of the boat, what body angle would I be at. Feel free to edit image and repost. I drew three arrows that are to represent the direction my upper body "falls towards" like Gordon explains. (please let me know if you can't open the PDF and I will repost in different format) Is there someone out there that can explain the entire process of the turn that might give me something to visualize and practice? Should a turn be thought of similar to initiating a pull-out at the gates? (i.e., shifting your center of mass over the edge of the ski)
  5. Awesome tips. I will be focusing on more ski angle and "lean" this weekend. I had better get off my flat ski before ski school considering those 197 wakes aren't NEAR as forgiving as my 200's wake and slower speeds. @OB , as always, thanks for the "gentle" advice. I can assure you that I will be working on those pointers. Can't wait to show you up one day when you visit S.K.I. ! @Jim Neely , Can't wait for next week. Ski school couldn't come at a better time for me. I'm starting to get frustrated early in the season. Time for a relaxing vacation and great food to rid of frustration. @ToddL , love the reply. For a beginner skier like me, it's nice to read ideas put into simple terms. I'm still a bit confused about "pushing with your legs to make you taller" . Obviously I need to keep soft knees while doing this, however, the two ideas seem difficult to combine. @MattP , The next video I post I'll be sure to pull out wider/earlier/longer. I have realized that some of my better passes started with a wide and early approach to 1 ball.
  6. Thanks in advance. I know i need to get more confident crossing the wakes. I'm having LOTS of trouble turning the ski primarily because I'm tail riding. No matter how much I tell myself to get my weight over my front foot, it just doesn't happen. I also "sit" a lot. It's still early in the season. Ski school this weekend. I think I need to "re-learn" how to turn a ski. I might be trying to turn the ski too much with my legs and feet instead of letting my upper body mass do the work. Can someone help me out a bit with "turning philosophy"? Thanks again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNsSf-djY7I
  7. loved that ski! I purchased one a bit too short for me. My wife uses it now (65") and she loves it. Great ski. Tried to buy a 67" but couldn't find one. Settled for the Senate C. Enjoy!
  8. @SkiJay , she's a trooper. She gave the thumbs-up a few seconds after surfacing.
  9. Scott Tynan says he's seen Nate run 4 @ 43' off (34 mph). @horton , I'd say that perfect speed for Nate is somewhere close to 34mph. http://waterskimag.com/features/2013/03/04/nate-smith-the-natural/3/
  10. @OB Tom is probably right about the water temp. His fancy Team Edition probably has the temperature gauge on it unlike mine.
  11. @Sully , Sure man. Just make sure you have USAWS membership and I'll let you use one of my guest passes at the lake sometime. Send me a message when you'll be around and we'll try to work something out.
  12. http://www.wakehouse.com/products/ho-siren-water-ski-gloves.html?gclid=COuU0of-9LYCFao7MgodblAA4w My wife swears by these
  13. Geesh! You guys are harsh. I'm glad I didn't buy the boat for you. Actually, I'm humbled by your opinions. My opinion... my boat is better than yours :) @OB , the backseat is out and stored at home. I think the doghouse makes it appear like the back seat is there in the video. By the way, I need some lesson's up here. The water temp is close to 60. Skied with a fellow that tuffed it out in a shorty yesterday. Did Sims send you pictures of his new 200 yet? @allycat , I'm very lucky to have my wife ski with me. She's a competitor and I'm quite confident she's on track to being a better skier than me.
  14. @jwroblew , thanks a bunch. That's not too bad. I kinda like being able to see more of the course, etc. when watching the video. Gives you a great perspective of where the skier is in relation to the boat, wake, etc. So do you recommend using the narrow settings to record video? Do the other modes looks much further away?
  15. Attempting to fire this thread back up for a few quick questions. Just purchased a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition yesterday. So far I'm amazed. I was wondering what mode everyone else uses for skiing? A lot of the videos will be shot from the pylon mount. I understand the skier looks far away, however, I've heard if you change the mode to "medium" or "narrow" view, it improves. I was also wondering what resolution everyone prefers will shooting from the boat. Currently it's set on 1080p 60fps. I'm not sure about the 1440 mode. Does anyone have suggestions on this? Also, does anyone have a video from the boat/pylon they could post? I'm curious to see just how far away the skier looks. Thanks!
  16. Incredible facility you've got there. If you don't mind me asking, what's the acreage of the lake and the average depth?
  17. @Texas6 , thanks for the tip. I need to get a lot more confidence crossing the wakes. As I watch the videos in slow motion, my ski tip keeps popping up after the turn (most likely due to sitting on the back of the ski in a safety position anticipating the wakes). @crashman , Thanks! Getting back in normal gear felt amazing (going to Skier's Edge tomorrow morning for a drysuit by the way). Florida is a great place to ski... even though you people in florida have some nasty looking water. I felt like I was skiing in green Saint Patty's day beer!
  18. Continuing the no-shame 15-off club. I love the feedback I get from you guys. This is my second time ever trying to drop a hand. Also, I'm not on my own ski... I used a Monza w/ RTP. It was quite slippery! Thanks in advance. Music brought to you by my brother in Nashville TN. Thanks bro! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8e7xJLI6Bs
  19. Another bump for the triumph. Mine is for sale on ski-it-again. :) I skied with it in public, open water 100% last season. Easy to pop up, VERY stable, etc.
  20. @ OB , Come ski at S.K.I. and it's yours! Then you can chalk up #13 for the year
  21. I can generally feel the skier, especially Tommy, however, my wife skiing at 28mph and weighing 100 lbs is difficult to feel at the training buoys. @OB , even pulling Tom the other day, the observer had to let me know when he went down a couple times (yes tom took a spill or two). I appreciate u guys trying to save me money, but this current mirror is garbage. Obviously i will get better at driving and be able to feel the skier naturally. Im not wanting a mirror so i can watch my wife ski the course. Thats what my Kodak and EZ cam mount is for. Its so i can glance if i think shes down.
