  1. My opinion on this topic may be warped as neither me nor my son are likely to win a national championship this year (or ever). If you have a virtual nationals, we will participate. Not with hopes of winning, but to support USA Waterski and for the love of our sport. I know those that are competitive and have a chance of winning a medal may feel differently, but there are a lot of us out here that ski mostly for the love of skiing, not for the medal.
  2. @Horton Thanks for the info, much appreciated. How do you feel about 2-4d?
  3. @Horton Am I missing something on diquat? The documentation I see says there is not a now swim or no fish period after using it.
  4. @igkya We spread the 2-4D using a small boat with a 20 gallon sprayer tank in the boat attached to a 10' boom with 6 weighted lines that go down ~10' and have nozzles connected. This gets the undiluted chemical to the plant quite well. It took some trial and error to get the nozzle size correct. We calibrated the flow using dye in the tank to watch the flow pattern and measure the output. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures of the rig.
  5. "we even made you a f-ing pool float" That video makes me want to go out and buy a Connelly
  6. We ski on an old quarry with very steep shorelines. As homes have been developed shorelines have become more manicured and with recent high water levels, erosion more of an issue. Not everyone on the lake is a skier and some of the skiers are not as cognizant as they should be about shoreline buffering materials. The ski club owns the lake and has the final say on what can be done or placed on the shore line. Our experience has been that lining the shore with fist to softball size rock does not increase wash back but that may not be sufficient to protect from erosion in some areas. Does anyone have an example of guidelines (or suggestions for guidelines) that our ski club could use that would protect the shoreline and limit wash back?

    SeaDek

I remember seeing a post about a company that makes SeaDek for the platform of a Nautique 196 but I cannot find it. The SeaDek site does not have a listing for any Nautique products and the other sites I have found only have it for other models. Can someone help me out?
  8. @Horton Is that the standard Ski-Doc or the Orbit? The video is much smoother than any other system I have seen.
  9. This would be very interesting to me especially if you could get some good instruction. Warm weather vacations are always a bit of a toss up for us with a wife that doesn't ski and a kid that loves it. While I love this idea, I will not bring my family to Mexico at this time. The risk outweighs the reward for me.
  10. My cousin used to say "Hit the hyperdrive Chewy"
  11. This is great https://unofficialnetworks.com/2019/09/23/maine-best-watah-skiah/
  12. Years ago we were skiing with Keri Tolzman in Wisconsin. He had a cranberry farm going as well as a couple lakes. He talked about needing an additional lake for regionals and how he used a large dozer to push dirt to the edges creating essentially a ditch. I forget what he said the time to dig was but he had a pump on the back of his dozer that I believe he said could fill the lake in a couple days.
  13. Thanks everyone. The advise has really helped. First set out he walked through 32 and looks much better at his slower speeds. I really appreciate the input and encouragement. It os hard to pull someone for 100+ sets and try to coach from the mirror when you are only a mediocre skier yourself. @Chris Rossi my sone is loving his 2020 Vapor!
  14. @BraceMaker - Part of our issue is there are really no other kids near by that ski, certainly not on our lake. He has ~ 100 days, ~150ish sets on the water this year. In the Midwest we cannot do too much more than that. I am hoping to make the time he does have on the water quality training time. @vtmecheng - Hoping to get down to Matt Rini's in the spring for a few days.
  15. My 11 year old has progressed well over the last few years to the point of running 32 -15 a few times this year but his progress seems to be leveling off. My coaching has focused on getting the hips up to give him time to actually have an edge change rather than pulling from buoy to buoy. He is getting tired of hearing this from me and I am getting tired of telling him this with no real impact. I have attached a video below with him skiing 15 off 28, 30 and 32mph. Any advise on how to coach him would be greatly appreciated!
  16. So what is the real reason the discussion board on skifly is now gone?
  17. Blair at Skipper Buds (across the street from Munson) has a decent selection of HO gear and various brands of vests etc. If you want to touch before you buy, go see Blair. That being said I live 10 minutes for both of them and (unfortunately) 90% of my purchases are online.
  18. I’ll ask the important question. What type of boat are you getting?
  19. The comments would be funny if it were not centered around injury. Hanifah has dug a hole but just keeps digging.
  20. My 11 year old just finished his first set, loved it. Said the turns are very easy and fast. He looks great on the ski and matched his practice average on the first set.
  21. @kcwoodhead you may be surprised at the value of the jumpers. Shorter skis like that are desirable for teaching and hard to find. I think if you put them up on ski-it-again you would probably get enough money to buy a couple new pairs of combos and fill the boat with gas a few times.
  22. Looking to find the connection for the jump switch on our 09 196 but cannot locate it. Do we need an extension harness or is there generally one already attached?
  23. Looks like it would be roughly a 19 mile trip one way to get to the general area of the course. I am not sure exactly which cove it is located in.
