  1. I grew up visiting Bull Shoals. I think I learned to ski the course near Pontiac Cove where the Shull's had a course and a jump. My aunt and uncle have now retired down there and we are going to see them in a few weeks. There apparently is a course in one of the coves not far from point 19 but that is a long ways from Sister Creek. Have a great trip!

    Re-power

Is it, with reasonable effort, possible to put a cat engine in a non cat boat?
  3. @Horton, I understand the frustration at the internet culture of finding fault, but this was not my intent. As an aspiring slalom judge something didn't look right with the gate and I looked more closely. After further review I updated the post with pictures. I was unaware of the phenomenon of pro's missing gates in practice. I watched a few other videos and noticed gates being missed at 39 and 41. No offense, disrespect or trolling intended. Certainly not trying to take anything away from a well done video of some impressive skiing by a tremendous athlete.
  4. @JackQ I agree. That pass looked so perfect I was just surprised at the gates.
  5. Not picking on Will. I can't imagine the timing it takes at 41. I lost a lot of productivity getting this picture to confirm my first thought.
  6. @jercrane I would suggest getting her into a 2 or 3 round slalom tournament that offers a novice division. Even better is they have the 1/2 course balls. You are considered a novice until you run a full pass in a tournament. The site we ski tournaments at around here guarantee 4 passes each round for novice skiers. Most sites will be very accommodating to new skiers. Ask for help, hang out near the starting dock so she can see how things work and most importantly, enter the tournament with her! She will feel much better knowing Dad is out there competing too.
  7. Looking for suggestions for a jump helmet for my 11 yo. Ideally something that can be here no later than the weekend.
  8. The key on Superior is picking the right area with the right weather. I have swam in Superior near Porcupine Mountains when the water was in the mid 70's. A few days of warm temps and bright sun with low north winds push the warm surface water to shore. Crystal clear water in an area where no one is around.
  9. We noticed the tubing purchased from Amazon has a larger internal diameter making it easier to collapse and slide through the clips. We are going back to the skier to skier tubing.
  10. @BraceMaker our lake is never too low to ski, we have an average depth of ~35' with some holes of ~60' we don't need thousands of feet of protection, really just a few hundred around structures that were built (walk ways, patios, etc) and never meant to be this close to the water.
  11. Our lake is currently at an all time high, likely 2' above normal. There are concerns that this will be causing issues with erosion on the shore line of peoples homes. We have already said no wake boarding or surfing, no spinning skiers at the developed end of the lake, etc. There now seems to be some call to not allow trick skiing or even to stop all skiing until the lake goes down. Given that our lake is at ground water level and has no outlet, the lake coming down will be a very long process. Has anyone come up with an affordable, easily deploy-able solution to help with erosion on a temporary basis?
  12. @DangerBoy It is a Mavic Air. I am controlling it from the dock only because I wasn’t confident in my ability to land it from the boat if the battery went low or something happened. While it does have follow me mode that only works to ~18mph. In order to go faster you have to turn on “sport” mode which turns off all of the obstacle avoidance features but does keep the GPS benefits of maintaining elevation and hovering in place even during high winds.
  13. Thanks Ed. The lake is in Northern Illinois near McHenry (50 miles north of Chicago), Clear Lake..
  14. I just got a new drone last week and filmed a skier for the first time today. I have a lot to learn, the gimbal movement is jerky, I over-run the skier and with the small view finder it was difficult to get lined up with the course, but for anyone thinking of getting a drone to film skiing, this will give you an idea of what is possible with 5 previous flights under your belt on a sub $1,000 drone. I maintained a height of ~20' off the water. I am very happy with how it did following a 36mph skier.
  15. Success! Today I was sent a new passcode that allowed me to override the error I received yesterday. We are all up and running. Thanks everyone, especially @Gloersen for your help.
  16. @Gloersen no option for override was given. Do you get a new password with each different file? I used the password they sent me with the wrong file.
  17. Weds evening update ZO confirmed today I had been sent the wrong file (file was for Garmin pucks). Unfortunately the new file they sent me also appears to be wrong. I received this message. And the guy I have been working with is now out on vacation until Tuesday. Hoping I. An find another person at ZO to help me tomorrow. As a side note I drove by hand tonight for the first time in 20+ years. I don’t like it...
  18. @ski6jones we were on Rev R and are staying with R but single puck upgrade. With the issues I have been having I will wait until fall when we aren't usign the boat as much to attempt the upgrade to S @Jody_Seal Thanks, I will check that tonight @eleeski I can only connect one other connector from the new harness and that has the same wires as the blue/pink blue/white which @Gloersen showed unplugged in another post. The pink black red white/black plug does not fit any plug under the dash
  19. Well I was able to connect to the ZO with Aquastar by tapping into the pins under the dash. The system said the upgrade was successful but we don’t have a GPS signal now. I played around with a bunch of connections and got nothing then noticed the SW version (I assume software) is the same from before the update. I guess I will be calling ZO in the morning. A couple of questions - it appears the connectors on the boat that the pucks were plugged into are not used with the new harness? - Based on the information @Gloersen provided in another post I believe I have the connections correct - are there any ZO gurus in N Il? Ski sets and alcohol are on me. It is going to be 80 tomorrow.
  20. @ski6jones pin to ground
  21. @Gloersen I am connecting on the engine using this connector. Can someone confirm this is the diagnostic plug? @LeonL We were being lazy and just cut the wire. I plan to splice it tonight if I can't get the update to work. @ski6jones After speaking with ZO yesterday I did a quick check on the diagnostics plug. I was told I should have 2.5-3.5v on the 2 pins that the ECOM connects to. I only have this on one pin. My next step is to find the blue w/ pink stripe and blue w/ white stripe wires under the dash and connect the ECOM directly to those bypassing the wire harness and connecting directly to the ZO system. I am only updating to single puck Rev R so this should be sufficient to get up and running but will have to diagnose and fix the reason for no voltage at the diagnostic port to get to Rev S (I believe). I am taking all of this with a grain of salt as there seem to be some discrepancies between what I understood from the tech at ZO and what I actually saw on the boat. @Xpropman I will be in touch if this doesn't work. Thanks
  22. @ski6jones That is the same issue we are having. Please let me know if you get any resolution. I am also reaching out to ZO today.
  23. @Gloersen Thanks This boat is newer to us so I am not sure if the port has ever been used. We borrowed the ECOM cable, it has been used in the past. We are using the 3.5.0.0 Is this a bring it to the dealer situation? Unfortunately we cut the wires on the old pucks to pull them out prior to figuring out the update wasn't working so now we are speed control less.
