  1. Anyone found found a nice starting setup for a 66 Connelly GT. I'm kind of struggling with mine. I initially went with the stock setup suggestion. My offside feels really good but my onside is a mess now. I'm sure the vast majority of my issues are skill related (too much weight on back foot, hips not square) but I'm trying to figure out how to get it at least to comfortable place. I feel like I can't really focus on my on form at all now because I'm fighting the ski. I'm having a hard time interpreting what's actually going on too. Most of the time, I'm getting wheelies coming out of the turn but then when I try to get forward I end up going out the front or breaking at the waist to save an out the front. RFF, 34 mph, 28 off ... just been open water skiing so far to get the feel. Maybe this is too much fin for me. :(
  2. I have to dislike that boat ramp video @UWSkier. Makes me cringe. The guy almost got his head run over by his truck when he jumped out. Would have been funny and amusing if he had stayed in the boat but that was stomach turning to watch.
  3. I agree change is hard and when you are at that level in a very physically demanding and perfection demanding, performance sport making a change can be even harder. Taking a step back to take more steps forward is very hard. Which is actually a very interesting philosophical question for gear geeks (myself included) to consider. Do you really need that new ski? Probably not if like me 99.999% of my problems are ability and technique. And if not what does that mean for the industry? Like we need these companies to keep selling skis and gear so they keep innovating but if the vast majority of us really don't need that innovation ... :/
  4. Not sure I buy that you can't know what ski they are on. Its pretty clear from the graphics which ski is which and there is no way Connelly is putting old graphics on a new ski if you are thinking they might be skiing on a GTR that looks like GT. Connelly's main goal in sponsoring is to sell gear. Having skiers on old gear doesn't really help that. Old graphics even less so.
  5. I guess Thibaut is on the GTR. so maybe it more like 50/50 . Hmmm
  6. Seems like no one other than Joel has made the switch to the GTR (Sacha, Siani, Manon, others?). At least not at the Swiss Proam. What's up with that? Not turning out to be what they hoped? Does it require a big change in skiing style? Anyone have a perspective on this? Just curious
  7. @Stevie Boy yes you can. That’s how the boats with all the sponsors all over them get that way.

  9. You are going to call it “Casper” right?
  10. Thanks @Chris Rossi great advice. That was kind of my take. No one does this because they think they are going to make a pile of money. Even the owners. Always a good day with Jodi so we'll take this into account this weekend.
  11. I'll throw out another vote for back foot out. At least try it. In college I always got up back foot in. Took a few years off (cough ... 18 ... cough) and got back into things in my 40's and I found I had some issues getting up. Tried popping the foot out and it has been such a relief. I get up faster, more consistently and with less energy consumption. I even find it easier skiing on short course setups now. I just get up on a plane so much faster by dragging the foot. I don't know ... give it a shot.
  12. Dusting this thread off with a related question that I didn't see discussed here. I'm heading to Fl (Jodi's Ski Skool) for a few sets with the kids this weekend and last time we were there after settling up my wife and I had a big debate on this topic. Her stance was we didn't need to tip Jodi himself since it was his business. Yes he did most of the coaching and driving and he was awesome with us and the kids, but it's his business so you are paying him with your set fee. On the other hand we did have another coach/driver for one set and it would make sense to tip him. Now my position was we should tip on the whole thing because I felt like it was a service. What do you think? It makes sense to tip a coach or driver that is likely doing this out of love of sport and not making a ton of money but what about the owner operator of the business?
  13. @jhughes I don’t have a problem with the 840 release. I skied in my buddy’s trick that had 740 release and did smash my toe though.
  14. Oh jeez, now I have to go buy a $60 drafting ruler or I won't be able to ski on my rig :D
  15. @DavidN sweet thanks, from that pic I will also interpret that as option B
  16. OK so I'm trying to reset my front binding to something close to factory as I never really measured when I moved to hardshell last year. Anyways now that I am measuring I'm not certain where to put the tape. Option A (low): Here ... tape against the ski and butted against the plastic shell or Option B (high): Here ... tape at the roundest part of the protrusion in the heel cup Do to the shape of the heel cup on the Reflex this actually makes a pretty substantial difference. Like About 1/8th of an inch and more or less one hole slot forward or backward. I realize that at the end of the day all that matters is consistency as I make changes and continue to measure in the same exact manner. However ... I'd like to start from something close thats makes sense relative to the factory spec and go from there.
  17. First set in NH yesterday. Hard to really call it a set I guess. Up the lake and back in the drysuit. Still glorious though and fantastic to be on the water again. Also I am pathetically sore today, so sad :D
  18. OK so whats the latest here then? Does Boatmate have a fix or not? Is it worth calling them at this point or are they going to tell me to go pound sand?
  19. Anyone got a Supershell plate kicking around they want to sell me? I need the complete plate with release, heel cup, and toe bar but I don't need the shell or liner. Size 6 right. Looking to drop on a trick ski. Couldn't find any on Ski it again unfortunately.
  20. Ice out official on 4/27 for Squam. Pretty nuts how fast it broke up over 1 week. Pumped! Got the new dock almost done. Finish it up and drop the lift in this weekend.
  21. No they both have to be modified. Well I had to modify three out of the four since I like a slight rotation so I was able to use one hole and tweak the other three. Really hard to see in the pic since the one on the right is under the foot bed rubber and it happens to be the one I modified.
  22. Radar Feather Frame RTP will not fit Connelly rear binding pattern without mods. I did this last summer though and its very easy with a Dremel. Here's what you have to do. This is on a Connelly GT. I changed to a Reflex front after the initial mount hence the old set of modded holes.
