  1. God willing, I will be picking up my ‘new to me’ prostar for Southern California and trailering it to my home outside Portland Oregon. I’ve got a couple of mountain passes to get over and while I won’t go with snow on the road, there is the possibility of residual sand and gravel. Should I be concerned about gel coat damage? I’ve found some temporary films like https://www.calcarcover.com/product/road-wrap-paint-protection-film/1218. I also thought of pallet wrap but not sure if it would stay on at freeway speeds. Any other ideas? Do I even need to worry about it? Thanks, Kent
  2. Thanks for all the feedback guys, much appreciated! Clearly not enough skiing going on ;) Answers to questions: - Very little snow here in the Portland area maybe a couple inches a year - Garage is 21 feet deep - Went to the lumber yard with my buddy who used to be a framer and got pricing and education on engendered wood beams in case I need to change it. They can size a new beam as stated but can’t really tell me if my existing is sufficient. - There is 14” of headroom so I should be able to fit a wood beam and not have to go steel. - The LVL with glue and engineered lags was also a suggestion from the lumber yard as a possibility My first choice is to have @buoyboy1 tell me my existing beam is good enough:) Second LVL sister beam Third whole new glulam beam
  3. @skimtb roof slopes down, 17’ opening see photo @PurdueSkier thanks for the time required input.
  4. @BraceMaker yes, I’ve cut away the sheet rock and I have one continuous beam like the post is decorative only. The beam is 4”x13”x26’ likely #2 Douglas fir. Yea, a retired guy would be a great option if I can find one. @Clydesdale not really looking for a discount engineer but someone who maybe has lower minimums or is willing to help another skier out.
  5. Odd thread title but it really is water ski related ? In order to replace my 1985 Ski Centurion whose stringers have given up the ghost, I need to convert my garage door from two doors to one. The cost of the door and install is reasonable enough that I still have budget for a newer boat. The construction part I’ve got covered. But, there is one open issue. Is my existing header strong enough to hold up the garage roof? I’ve found one company that can do the calculation but he thinks it’s 3 hours worth of work and 540 bucks which seems like a lot to me. I was thinking it was more like an hours worth of work but I don’t really have a frame of reference. So, any of you ballers an engineer that can help me out by doing the work for a lot less? Thanks for considering! Kent
  6. Super easy to install. Literally plugging in cables and one mechanical connect. Biggest challenge is cable routing.
  7. I’m the same age as your dad skiing -28 @34 mph, love my Senate alloy. We don’t have the best conditions at times and the ski tears right through the chop so I’m sure it would be a great open water ski and give him plenty of performance in the course.
  8. I am wondering how I am going to start a new season when I start skiing again in April? Do the stats start fresh in January ? I don’t see away to do it manually.
  9. Thanks for your input guys. I contacted a couple of trailer companies one told me it could not be done and another can do it but at a cost of 8K. I can’t get enough width without going to a single garage door so I’m pursuing that angle but it’s not likely to be a whole lot cheaper than the trailer option which busts my budget.
  10. I'm try to buy @zakdog 2001 Prostar but his trailer at 8' 2.25" is too wide for my garage (8' wide). I've got a buddy looking into modifying the garage but I'm wondering if a different trailer is an option. Would a single axle trailer be any narrower? Is there even a way to have a 94" wide trailer carry a 91" wide boat? Thanks, Kent
  11. Thanks @rawly, already hitting Zakdogs up for the details. :)
  12. Thanks for the feedback guys, I’ll be keeping that vintage off the search criteria.
  13. I’m shopping for a used Prostar and in my research, I’ve come across some negative comments on these particular model years (some even include the 2001). I’ve heard these model referred to as the Death Star, and “...worse boat in the last 30 years...”, and “To state that the redesign of the 1998 ProStar 190 has sparked a great deal of discussion amongst water ski enthusiasts would be an understatement.” Are these model years really some that I should exclude from my searching? Thanks, Kent
  14. Garden hose nozzle and shop vac typically works well for me. This year in tried my home steam cleaner which worked well until you and Kevin threw all manner of dirty river wood in my boat ;)
  15. @bcm, thanks for the idea, I would not of thought aftermarket folding tongue was an option without a whole new trailer. I've been lobbying for a shop for a while ;) @brettmainer, thanks for the input, I'll get some additional input on the 2000 model. I landed there basically because of the the ballast system and anything newer is definitely going to be too long for the garage. I did read somewhere that the pre 98 hull was better.
  16. @keithh2oskier yea, I could probably squeeze 2 inches somehow I have limited ability to angle because the other half of the garage is shorter than the boat half. @dvskier @skihacker yep sheet rock is easy to fix.
  17. Thanks for the reply’s guys. The two foot plus hull length @BrennanKMN mentioned makes sense as that’s what I have now with my 1985 Centurion. I have the lift off brackets like @keithh2oskier stated now which make is so the exhaust exits stick out further than the brackets. The fold down type @horton mentioned do not give as much room. Maybe I need to drop back to a 1997 hull (19’ 5”), then using the 2 foot rule, I only need to figure out how to squeeze 2” with maybe some creative sheet rock work ;) Kent
  18. I’m in the embryonic stage of looking for a new to me boat. After some initial research, I’m thinking of a 2000 ProStar 190. One of my constraints is the length of my garage (21’3”). Assuming a removable swim step and single axle trailer, can the 2000 190 fit? I know the hull is 19’6” I just don’t know how much more is required for the trailer. Can some with a 190 of that vintage give me the total length measurement? Thanks, Kent
  19. I pulled out for the gates...and hilarity ensued.
  20. Feature request: hey @OSSKI can we make it default to the current time local time?
  21. Logged my first real sets of the year last night and have a minor bug to report. Overall, it works great and I’m loving it. When I select 58 degree water temperature, it is displayed as 58.1 on the set summary screen. A tenth of a degree is not big deal but the increments in the app are 0.5 so not sure where the .1 is coming from unless you are converting back and forth from Celsius or something.
  22. @braindamage same story here, had to get my head stitched up after an OTF on my Open Class. Once we get the course in the water I’ll need to break it out.
