  1. Open water skier since I was about 10 and never got exposed to a course. Somehow late in my college years (maybe 1980?.). I became aware of slalom courses. Having a background in alpine racing, it sounded like great fun. Don’t remember how but I heard of a novice tournament nearby so went to check it out. I had the basic idea of what I was supposed to do but that is about it. Got out there ran a few buoys on practice day with guys from the boat yelling “pull hard” on every cut. Came back for the tournament the next day, don’t remember my score but loved it. Kept skiing tournaments for the next few years mostly to get course time then wife, kids, career, etc. I think I skied my last tournament in 1986 or 87.
  2. One of my ski buddies (@Pullhard) has a 1998 and the wake is pretty good. 22 off bump is noticeable but not terrible. The biggest complaint we have with his boat is the tracking. Takes focus and a deft hand at the wheel to keep it straight.
  3. @MDB1056 we used to have an accufloat on public water. Yea, you can’t install it in 15 minutes but you can refloat it. We had clip on buoys and would remove them at the end of skiing and let the course drop to the bottom. When time to ski we either had a line from the bank to the course mainline or used a grappling hook to snag it pull it up and start clipping buoys on.
  4. I put a Perfect Pass Stargazer (gps based) with ZBox (zero off emulator) in my 1985 Centurion and it worked great. Yes, not the response that zero off provides but a great retrofit for older carbed boats. The guys at Perfect Pass are super helpful and it was very easy to install.
  5. 4 is normal for that binding.
  6. I have an addition to my plans…re-listen to all of Spraymakers season 2 with notepad in hand. Thanks @TFIN and @Chris Rossi
  7. Good point @Killer i tried the vapor back in 2019 but I was more of a 22 off skier back then so, probably worth another look. Senate might be easier on my 62 yo body though ?
  8. @david_ski if your partner ends up wanting to sell her senate, please let me know.
  9. Thanks @scuppers and @UWSkier for the input very helpful. As you get more time on it, I’d love to hear how you get along with it.
  10. Course is coming out today so my last sets for this year was back on 2 November. :(
  11. Anybody got time on the ‘22 senate pro build? It’s one of the ski’s I’m looking at for next season (currently on a 2019 senate alloy) but I think I’ll have a hard time getting a demo as my local shop rarely has 65’s and rarely the higher level builds. So I’m looking for some input from folks that have some time on it. FWIW, I’m just starting to run -32 at 34mph, 5’6” 145lbs Thanks!
  12. Rehab knee and ankle Put the muscle back on that I lost due to gym shutdowns Fix the brakes on my trailer
  13. Thanks @Cnewbert ! I had no idea there was an adjustment screw. Hopefully it will stop raining and I can get out for a test run.
  14. With regard to video coaching, what is the optimal time to submit another video? I submit a video and the coach tells me to fix something and I work on it but I can still see the issue in my skiing. Do I wait until I have the most recent tip mostly mastered before sending another video or submit one every so often even if I continue demonstrating the same issue already addressed? Thanks guys, love the podcast! Super helpful!
  15. @bigtex2011 sorry for your loss and illness. :( Check out the swerve tracker app to keep track of your skiing.
  16. Kind of an odd year for me. Lot's of wind early in the year but was able to improve my -28/34 to about 60% and ran my first ever -32 on July 8th. A couple weekly later had a dumb fall on my opener that twisted my ankle and knee and I've not recovered my confidence and performance since. My new MOB system will arrive Thursday and I've got about a week and half before the course comes out. Hoping that having the MOB will give me enough mental horsepower to finish the season strong. 101 sets 568 passes 2471.5 buoys Quite a bit more skiing than 2020 and my 62 yo body is holding up well (except for the ankle) 001 -32 ran 1% 082 -28 ran 38% 110 -22 ran 71% 117 -15 ran 89%
  17. You might want to look into the backbone mod for GoPro for the ultimate in lens flexibility. https://www.back-bone.ca/gopro-mods/ I don’t have personal experience with it but I’ve got several 35mm lenses I’d love to use on my GoPro. I’ve found the speed trigger mostly reliable on my Hero 7. It’s failed a couple of times but a camera restart gets it going again.
  18. If it has been a while since you’ve changed, you can do it two or three times back to back to get all the old fluid flushed out. Change it, run it, change it, run it.
  19. Great episode…I think they have secretly been watching me ski ;)
  20. Cut my scalp down the my skull with the aluminum top of my Jobe open class. The veterinarian who normally stitched guys up was not around so had to go to the ER to get stitched up. Due to concussion risk my future wife had to drive my ‘58 Chevy PU with boat in tow an hour and a half home. She had never pulled a boat before and the PU had no power steering…at least she knew how to drive a manual transmission.
  21. @OREGON85 Active Water Sports in Oregon City has a pretty easy and flexible demo program. A little distance from you but they let me take a couple of Radar’s for like a week. They have HO as well but I don’t know exactly what they have in stock.
