  1. @MitchellM that is already covered with the spraymakers podcast. I love both formats. I've been looking for some more material the last little bit @Luzz getting into the Cole interview now!
  2. I'm neither a lawyer, or law enforcement officer, but there is an exclusion included in the Small Vessel Regulations as I interpret them. I read this to mean if you are operating a tow boat which is consistent with WaterSki Canada guidelines, EG, you hold a competitive license, have the appropriate gear (ski, rope, speed control, etc), you would meet this exclusion. I have this printed in the boat, but I would expect that once produced to the LEO you're definitely getting a ticket! lol never had the opportunity to date... They were ticketing at Puslinch Lake for this earlier this summer due to some nosey neighbors... the ski school now runs spotters at all times. Doubtful 99.9% of police are aware of this, and I believe there is or was a reference within the Criminal Code for operating a vessel without a spotter. This is the grey area I'm unsure of, otherwise the statute is pretty clear. Would be interesting to hear how a judge views it. I wouldn't be surprised if its never come up... https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2010-91/page-18.html?txthl=towing+towed#s-1005 Water Sports 1005 (1) No person shall operate or permit another person to operate a vessel for the purposes of towing a person on the water or in the air (a) unless a person on board other than the operator is keeping watch on every person being towed and is communicating with the operator of the vessel; (b) unless there is seating space on the vessel to accommodate every person being towed; © unless every person being towed is wearing a personal flotation device or lifejacket or the vessel carries on board the personal flotation device or lifejacket that would be required under Parts 2, 4 or 5 if the person was on board; or (d) during periods of restricted visibility or in the period beginning one hour after sunset and ending at sunrise. (2) Subsection (1) does not apply in respect of a vessel that is operated during formal training, in an official competition or in a skill demonstration if the vessel meets the safety requirements of a governing body respecting that training, competition or demonstration. oh and if you chose to produce this regulation to a LEO please don't tell them Killer told it was okay to ski without a spotter!
  3. Doesn't matter if you have a permit or not, if there are lake residents that dislike the course and take action against it, you're SOL. When I got the permit for Kennisis Lake it was only issued for a floating course on an in and out basis, meaning we were supposed to take it out after every use... Ha! It was up all summer. I was told basically it's up to the lake owners association, if they determine its unwanted you have to yank it. A permit may open things up to a point of no return as sometimes it's easier to just play dumb IMO. For bigger lakes probably not an option but for smaller lakes get on the board, schmooze, be nice to everyone, be the coolest mofo on the lake, etc. I did it just to be able to show people we had 1 as I had 1 guy ask if we had a permit, so of course I said yes and proceeded down the road of requesting 1. I won't be getting a permit for the course I have on Kushog, also been 1 in the same location for 30 years off and on. If people don't like it (we have 1 and a few people who use it randomly but it's mostly just me and 1 other guy, which is an issue as I often have no driver that is capable of tournament vs cottage driving, let alone shortline), I'll either drop permanent anchors on subs and pull the buoys when not around or do a sinker off my dock. Where there's a will, there's a way. Here is a link I found, information differs from when I got my permit 12 years ago. Says it's annually renewable... https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/docs/r/poli/page01 @ballsohard I'll pm you the guy I dealt with contact from transport Canada. He may not be there of course but he knew what was what.
  4. Kushog Lake in Haliburton. We have a course setup and I run a bubble butt Nautique. Although I'm only there for a week or 2 and a few weekends. Ski mostly at Mcclintocks, and a little at just about every other ski school in the province that will pull me with my schedule lol. Was on Kennisis Lake for many years and had a course there which I did get a permit for about 10 years ago. @mmskiboat @GeorgeCostanza there used to be a course on little red years ago too.
  5. @ballsohard trust me cuz I've been there. Don't sell until you get on that new ski!!!
  6. @ghutch I see lots of skiers backfooting it with an RTP. I believe it's a move a very advanced skier can make to get just that much further forward if that is what you're looking for. There is no silver bullet. The spraymakers EP was great. It's funny cuz I feel like I'm the only one with a rear boot these days lol.
  7. depends on the grade of tear and age will be a factor. I have injured many of my RC tendons, dislocation, no surgery just physio and strength training and I'm stronger than ever but I'm over 10 years younger. I have only ever had an ultrasound and cortisone shot (once) so no real idea of how much of a tear I've had. Not sure where you're located but there are some great orthopedic surgeons in Toronto. Dr. Abouali at Michael Garron hospital and Terry Axelrod at Sunnybrook who's a skier and treated many skiers over the years. I'm sure there are others, but these 2 are very well regarded. See if they can take a look at you once you get the MRI done. good luck
  8. If it was easy they'd call it wake surfing. 35 is hard
  9. @vtmecheng what is the material you used?
  10. I skied an Air 206 a few weeks ago. there was 1 adult and 5 little kids in it. Its been a while since I"ve skied behind anything but a 20' tournament boat. I was shocked at how big and hard the wake was at 32off. no perfect pass but I was going around 55k. skiable for sure but I sure won't be giving up my 196 for one, totally different leagues.
  11. you need to see a doctor. full stop. if they don't recommend surgery, they will (should) recommend Physio. Most partial tears are not candidates for surgery, depending on age and activities. A doctor can do little more than recommend surgery or maybe give you a cortisone shot. That is only temporary to relieve the inflammation. Go to a good sports physio and work with them to reduce the inflammation, built range of motion back and then strength, especially focusing on your core so your shoulders aren't taking so much load. stick to the program. lots of theraband work, stretching, etc.
  12. It's failure because it's not better to ski behind than the previous boat, in some cases feels just awful, Full stop. Lot of nice things about it but it's a ski boat first and foremost. They failed the ski part...
  13. Ya that handle was done about 300 sets ago (or more). I wouldn't have tried that to a tree to practice. You got Lucky
  14. I'd wait a couple weeks. They say 5-7 days for scalpaless for any real activities. They fail fairly often. I know of a few guys that didn't wait for the test 3 months after and had a surprise... It's surgery, follow Dr orders!
  15. I probably have about 150 sets on a pair Over 1.5 seasons. No issues. I pull the liners after use and I never keep the ski in the sun.
  16. Definitely Patti and Schnitz and 36mph. I was fortunate enough to ski with all 3 of these folks in the fall. Look forward to getting down to Hobe lake again and skiing with Wim, class act and an amazing site.
  17. I loved this podcast. @lotw For headwind/tailwind it's a lot about feel, you get a little more dip in the line on a tailwind so you have to be comfortable turning into less line tension. I like pulling out a little earlier and softer for a tailwind, little later and firmer for headwind, I use my earlier passes to get a feel for how strong the wind is and adjust from there for later passes. I'm sure some skiers pullout in the same spot but I think they said on the podcast softer/firmer for tail/head winds.
  18. 1/2 fill with water and still don't over inflate. No need for counter weight. Going on 3 years with the same Overton buoys on our course that's up all year. No issue with them freezing either.
  19. Is it possible? Yes probably but not likely. Moving the tank is a pita but not that hard. There are the 2 straps and the fuel and vent connections. Make sure the tank is at least almost dry.. The 00-01 is a different beast than the 97-98 or 02 tsc2. You need to undo the tank to get at the rudder as well. Would be a decent time to pull that, inspect the packing and grease it. Only problem is once you get the boat in the water it may require an additional adjustment of the rudder packing gland. Ask me how I know... You can patch the muffler but it will probably not hold for that long. You can also go straight pipe...
  20. @yardsale yep, apparently. The wire connector can also go bad. Mines all original except the filter, though not a lot of hours. I'll probably replace next time I change the filter since it's almost 20 years old! @Fast351 btw. You will likely need a lot more than an oil filter wrench for yours. I have a massive set of channelloc pliers, very required. It does mark up the outside of the canister but it usually takes a fair bit of force to get it off.
  21. @Fast351 I have the exact same boat and MY so feel free to PM me with any questions (not that I have all the answers lol)
  22. Most important aspect to gloves is they need to be tight fitting. Most common mistake I see people in gloves that are too big. They should be incredibly difficult to get on when brand new. If wear a medium in just about any other sports glove (winter, biking, snow,etc.). But I wear small in most Waterski gloves. Inside out is new over the last few years. I like them but you're not getting more buoys from them... I use both kevlar and amara. Was kevlar forever but Mostly prefer thinner amara now. If I'm looking for some extra grip for a set I'll use kevlar, eg tournament. They will wear out your handle quicker and can your hands too depending on the glove/fit.
