@Bionaraq sounds like you're working hard to build strength which is amazing. I chased my tail similarly and struggled with injuries, pain while skiing due to them and reduced water time until I educated myself on how to lose weight. Since doing so I have none of the above and can ski 10 sets a week without issue (getting time to ski now my most challenging issue!).
Diet is said to be 80% of weight loss - and although it's a lifestyle change in a lot of ways because of how damaging and prevalent the standard North American Diet is, its not as hard as the running and working out you're doing. A low carb diet or keto style combined with measuring the calories you're taking in, will shed pounds like you can't believe and FAST. Meat and vegetables/protein and fat vs processed foods and carbs combined with the exercise you're doing - you'll see immense changes quickly.
There are many free programs, but look at NOOM for a paid program and check out Fat Fiction documentary on YouTube:
If you stick with it - you'll drop massive weight in the first few months and can taper down from there and easily drop 1-2lbs a week without any restrictive eating - more if you can be really diligent.
Hope I'm not offending but it sounds like you want to make changes and I was in a similar boat as you 2 or 3 years ago. Other than perhaps quitting smoking many years ago, this was the most monumental thing I've ever done, oh and I still eat cheeseburgers and drink beer now, just not that often and not when I was dropping weight ;) good luck!
