  1. Broke my wrist mountain biking. Perfect timing as I just PBd the day before and am in the best shape of my life. Anyways doc says 6 weeks standard answer... I have a bone chipped off in my wrist (hamate bone). If I immobilize things actually feel pretty good. I don't have grip strength but feel like in a few weeks I should. I have some vice gloves so will probably try those first. So to get my hopes up (or down - be honest) how long has it taken everyone to hit the water again after a mild wrist fracture? Any tips to stay in shape and heal quickly?
  2. I have a Westland or carver (can't remember) custom cover on my 196 in sunbrella. It's an excellent cover but these are not mooring covers! I use it when the boat is on the trailer only, with the tie down straps and even then have had pooling with heavy storms. You will need to customize the support system at least to leave the boat moored for these covers and be able to check on the boat, and even then not perfect. I have no experience with the tumac cover but from what I see it is also not designed as a mooring cover, too loose fitting;correct me if I'm wrong here. It also depends on how and where you will keep the boat. Most people will recommend a custom fit cover that fits very snug for mooring. Most local marine cover manufacturers can do it. There are a few out there who have the dimensions for ski boats, especially the 196. Rankin covers was 1, not sure if they are still around. Evolution covers another. The factory cover on the 200 is excellent and uses wide webbing and a ratchet strap at the stern.
  3. It's pretty amazing people are still skeptical at this point and laughing or joking about this. USA is blowing up now, no way around it. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ 15k new cases today in the US. It's doubling more than every 2 days. Run some math on that. God speed to you if you need medical assistance over the next few months.
  4. @markn same can be said for the flu. Probably all of us have had it at least a few times and speaking from personal experience I've never saught any treatment. @mfjaegersr ignorant comment. You obviously didn't listen. 630 dead in Italy with 10,000 cases and rising. ICU rates are incredibly high. H over 80 be has a double digit death rate. Hospitals will be overwhelmed, that is the biggest concern. There are not enough beds, ICU or ventilators for those with resp. Failure. This is very serious especially for older people. Far more deadly than the flu, which we have a vaccine for. Will be at least 1-2 years for a vaccine here. There are 2 ways not to approach something like this; ignoring the severity and mass hysteria. Shutting down public events is the right move because that is the only way to stop it from spreading.
  5. 1.25hr typically. I did it about 4 times in a week a few years ago. Both lovely spots! Traffic can add a few minutes, but not too bad. I never had an issue around eden or on the interstate; the worst part was on the road from the interstate down to the island as there can be a fair bit of traffic and a lot of lights to go through. I recall 1 time hitting every single red...
  6. I have about 100lb of concrete blocks. Since the bottom is muck, after a few weeks and a few pulls it's stuck for life. More weight isn't necessary if the bottom assumes the anchor.
  7. @VONMAN extremely dangerous I'd say. lots of people have caught the tail of the ski against their body/head in a crash, myself included. That's a bloody dagger, take it off
  8. As big, ugly and crazy expensive as the new Ski Nautique is, I think the wakes are best from 22-35 @34, just slightly more so than the prostar. Some feel like a harsh pull, others not at all, could be drivers or earlier models. I've been behind 3 different ones, including a master's boat and a new 2020. Overall I still love the 200 both 5.7 and 6.0, but can't beat a prostar, most consistent from boat to boat and I don't care what motor is in it. Never been behind a new Malibu.
  9. Staying in West Palm starting Saturday for a week. Going to try and grab a couple lessons from Chet/Noah and at Hobe lake but we are staying 15min from okee and I've never skied there. Would be great to get some rides in! Flexible on time but would love to ski on Sunday and any number of days during the week. I've heard you can just show up but that's not entirely my style. Anyone up to give a baller some rides? Thanks, Kyle
  10. @sunperch I'm not doing anything other than attempting at putting things in perspective. I have spoken to some Int'l W4 athletes about this, the membership voted and it makes a lot of sense due to the fact you currently can have an 18 year old young woman skiing the same speed as a 45-54 year older woman. If we lose 1 skier but gain 2+ that is an overall benefit to the sport. Based on your member ID you are not a WRL skier? I do agree that ZBS scoring could be beneficial, and can be utilized in the USA, I believe you should still be able to ski at 34 if you chose, without credit. In Canadian rules you can age down to ski at a faster speed if you'd like, but you are competing with younger athletes. Almost nobody takes advantage of this, but there are not that many competitive skiers. I don't see how the elite at the top of the W4 ranking list will be alienated, this is making it easier. There are maybe 2 skiers that win every event already, they will continue to win at 32mph, 1 is aging out anyways. They will also pick up a few buoys. You will never make everyone happy; the goal should be to grow the sport and for the majority, not the few. With only 60 skiers on the W4 WRL, and only about 1/2 even running 14m, there's a lot of room for improvement.
  11. Seems counter intuitive to me that boys go from 34 to 36 once they reach young, adulthood then to 34 at age 35 while girls hit 34 as young women an remain there until what seems like forever... Why? The literal handful of women over age 45 who compete at a very high level will still be at that high level at 32mph and maybe it will convince some women to stay in the sport. Edit: there are 60 w4 skiers on the world ranking list, and about 10 getting into 12m. Interesting enough there are only 40 in W3, but that is prime child rearing years.
  12. @keithh2oskier I don't see why not if there is zero risk of a snap freeze. Why not take er out for a mid winter rip!
  13. You shouldn't use automotive AF, unless it's a closed cooling motor. I'd think in most jurisdiction spilling it on the ground would be considered illegal dumping. It's toxic. RV antifreeze is not toxic. My motor is 18yo. Zero issues. We had a '79 351 that was running strong at 30 yo. We just drained that one, no antifreeze. Lost 1 Frost plug in 15 years. There is no need to use or keep antifreeze inside the motor over winter. Drain water, backfill with RV antifreeze and drain to flush. Our air temps get to -30F in the winter. Many don't even use RV antifreeze and just drain.
  14. Are you sure it's a reverse rotation motor? I didn't think the gt40 were. The Nautiques used a reverse rotation reduction drive tranny on later model boats to get the prop rotation but the engine is standard rotation. These guys have gt40 long blocks https://www.michiganmotorz.com/ford-351w-marine-engine-remanufactured-p-3539.html Will be far less expensive to put a new 351w block in and swap all ancillary parts over than to move to a Chevy motor. Unless you want to switch to zo, just get a new 351w block.
  15. If you want to get better at skiing or you just can't get enough, go ski. Do what you have to do!
  16. @skiinxs not typically unless they changed it for later models. It has 3 position. On which powers all functions. Off which shuts off all power to the dash, bilge and engine. And bilge only which powers the auto bilge but not the key pad or accessories.
  17. Those switches Can and do fail. I'm awful with electronics but you should be able to test it with a simple multimeter if it's drawing power in off position.
  18. @Skoot1123 visit a physio. Have had (medial) elbow for a few years in my dominant arm. My physio found my arms take too much load because back/core isn't strong enough. Also not hanging on to lots of slack and having better form helps! So strengthening those muscles is helping, but so is regular manual therapy on my arm including ims accupuncture (electro stimulation). There are lots of stretches you can do to help alleviate the pain and build strength. I use a foam roller religiously and therabands for shoulder stability, also therabar for elbow and arm stretches. A good warm up also necessary before skiing.
  19. No need for a speedometer if you upgrade to a new perfect pass as it is GPS based. Your boat came with airguide speedos which are NLA now I believe. They probably failed because the tubes weren't blown out during the winter. Otherwise will last a very long time. Find a new mechanic, the old boats aren't rocket science! Pretty straight forward update to new stargazer perfect pass system. You may be able to keep the servo motor attached to the throttle cable, but if it's original, might as well do the whole thing. You will need a new motor for Zero off.
  20. yes many of the new boats are better, by how much though? Hardly measurable IMO. Your boat is pretty comparable, also seeing as its 1000lbs lighter than the new boats! for a lot of us who learned on 70s and 80s inboards, a 96 prostar is world class. I have a 196 and the small wake is hard to beat, even by today's standards but pretty dang close to what you're in... Response will also be similar. unless you move to a 200 or 14+ prostar, you are mostly wasting money IMO. are you using the junior rope?
  21. @aupatking how are you fixing that? Pretty common pro vs Joe technique you're displaying. I also notice from video of my skiing that I'm not advancing the ski off the 2nd wake like better skiers do, not in good alignment as displayed by the 2nd picture there.
  22. @vtmecheng 100% internet nitpicking. Great boats. I own an 01 Nautique. By 06 they had the MC pretty dialed in. I'd prefer a set behind an 06 196 but again, nitpicking. Great all around family boat, better for public water than the 196, maybe better in the course than the 206.
  23. An 06 197 is a fabulous boat. That blue one looks pretty nice m, even with 800ish hours. Not that many if we'll taken care off.
  24. I had the compact ez slalom w/ novice buoys. As I recall I used 2 zipties to those pre-drilled holes. Ziptie Connection piece was turned inside the pipe so the arms would still telescope. Clip buoy line onto the ziptie. Boom
  25. @Andre thanks! ribs are good now. Took about 3 weeks to ski again. Only bruised not broken. Heel up! @thager thanks, I get emails from them, have for years and never bought anything!
